Star Wars Archive Edition DVDs?

The Rumor Mill on thedigitalbits.com reports that the original Star Wars films will have changes made to them for DVD release. I know this rumor has been around for a while, but the Bits says some of the footage will include scenes with Hayden's Anakin and the Emperor, and will include an old Hayden/Anakin at the end of Jedi, and a souped-up saber fight between Vader and Obi-Wan in Ep. IV.
It also said the Han shoots Greedo scene would be restored.

I'm glad to hear the last bit, but no way should they do away with Sebastian Shaw's appearance as the old Anakin.

I don't see that on the rumor mill page. But if it's true, I'm sure fans will be THRILLED to hear about Hayden Christensen making his way onto the OT. Hey, at least it will have more continuity...

One other note today... we've heard from a number of interesting (and we believe reliable) inside sources that Lucsafilm is currently making major new changes to the original Star Wars films - the kind of changes he began a few years ago with the theatrical "Special Edition" releases. These changes include new special effects, revised and updated shots and scenes, and new footage shot with actors Hayden Christensen (Anakin) and Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) that would flesh out moments with their characters in the original films. For example, an aged and scarred Hayden now appears as Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi when Luke removes Vader's helmet. Among the other changes reportedly being made are the restoration of the original "Han shoots first" moment from Star Wars and a revamped lightsaber fight between Obi-Wan and Vader. What we've heard meshes with what we've been told before, which is that Lucas has always planned to release ultimate, "Archive" editions of these films that tie in better with the new prequels. The main question in our minds now is this: will these changes be completed in time to appear on the DVD releases planned for next September, or will we have to wait until after Episode III hits theaters to see them? And if we have to wait, what versions will appear on the DVDs? Time will tell.

Stay tuned...

Surely an Archive edition should mean the Original 'Unbastardised' versions not a special special Edition ?

Hopefully he will also take out Luke's girly scream in Empire and Jabba in ANH.

Well, heres hoping........

That does it....I was willing to put up with a glossy Jabba and even Greedo shooting first, but if these versions are the only ones released on the supposed 2004 set I REFUSE to buy it. I don't consider myself half the Star Wars nerd ( I don't mean that in a bad way) that a lot of you do, and even I have a heard time stomaching this....Yes the original Obi/Vader fight IS simplistic, but damn it, a stylized saber match with these two full of flips and cartwheels should be in EP. 3....NOT this!

I have to wonder if this is all part of an elaborate "Punked" prank...

I don't think so Fed-Ex Pope. I have heard these "rumors" floating around for quite some time. All I was told that "the changes will be so dramatic that you will WISH you had access to the SE" (I'm one that prefers the original)

Soon after that, I picked up the 5-Star discs of the SE of the OT. That may sadly be as close to the original originals as we'll get. Though I hope that I (and my source) are wrong!

The above changes were taken from a long list that most people have concluded (due to some of the odd things on the list) is a fan-made list and not an official one.

Sure, there may be some tinkering that Lucas does with the Special Editions, but I doubt they will be as extensive as including Hayden in the original versions.

Looks like all your Star Wars are belong to Lucas!

http://www.theforce.net/holonet/index.shtml#22710

The STORMSTROOPERS' voices are being redubbed (to be consistent with ep II)

But there were no stormtroopers in Ep II. Stormtroopers are just regular people who graduate from the academy, Clonetroopers were clones of Jango fett.

And Clonetroopers become Stormtroopers. So they all have Jango's voice! Therefore all will be redubbed by the guy who played Jango. Bobba Fett included!

Archive edition.. hee hee, nice name.

Storm troopers are those who come out of the academy. if you are basing this off TROOPS then you are bit wrong. even back then it was mentioned that they were always clone soliders.

the academy is more or else the high ranked officials. they are non-clones as they are the thinkers and so forth.

So... if stormtroopers and clonetroopers are essentially the same, and all stormtroppers have the same voice, how did Luke and Han manage not to get instantly discovered when they talked while wearing stormtrooper outfits while on the Death Star? Not only that, but Luke is much shorter - even Leia says so.

Oh my god, that list on theforce.net is so damn fake it's not even funny. The Ewoks are now mostly CG? CGing Yoda's face in ESB and ROTJ? uh, no, not going to happen.

I was actually worried for a second, but after seeing the "source" I'm feeling much better.

I always figured Stormtroopers were clones, but not all the SAME clone. In any given group there might be twelve of one guy, 30 of another.. ect. I think I just made that up though, heh.

I was skeptical at first, but given Lucas it could very well be true. Plus, theforce.net has generally been reliable..

No kidding. Someone please have the balls to tell Lucas that archiving means to *preserve* the past, not change it and pretend it never existed.

Archive edition. GMAFB.

you answered your own question:

"aren't you a little short(or small?) to be a storm trooper?"

simple as that. it fit him to big

Well I think that the first sentance in the last paragraph says it all:
Again, these are more of a wish list than accurate information.
Honestly, though . . . I was more struck by the next two sentences . . .
We also wanted to tell you something perhaps even more significant. Episode I: The Phantom Menace is getting a full overhaul as well. We'll leave you with that for now.

McCallum or Lucas answered this one recently. After Jango Fett's death, there is no longer a source of his DNA left to make the clones. While the Empire still clones it's StormTroopers, they come from varied doners now. So that's why there is some deviation in heights in the OT. So, technically only some of them should have Jango's voice. But yes, Luke didn't quite fit good in his armor. That's why Leia comments on it. It's made to fit a standard size, with only slight variation between the different trooper's sizes.

10. The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.
What's this about white boxes?
