Who did this?
In my book, that is stealing.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
It's not stealing. It was a GIFT from Amazon.com. He offered to return it and they said "Nah, nevermind. You keep it."
How is that stealing?

They gave him the refund . . .
He asked about sending it back . . .
They said to keep it . . .
Seems pretty kosher to me . . .

he realized the product amazon sold him was not a different version, he has now not paid for a product that is exactly the product he ordered, it's stealing, plain and simple.

From: on my couch watching dvds of course .. where else ???
ok let me explain the whole situation again.
i am staying abroad so i ordered dvds online most of the time as its cheaper than buying from the B&M store at my place.
i usually buy from canadian sites as its is much cheaper.
howvever i decided to try out the Amazon.com this time and among my orders were the title JFK SE.
When i receive the dvd, i realised that it has a Canadian home video sign behind it. As the description on the Amazon website states that their dvd has 17 mins of extra footage not seen in NOrth Amercian theaters i was concern and that was why i started this thread. I also emailed Amazon about it.As a result they offered to do a refund and no mentioned was made at all about me keeping the dvd. HOWEVER I DID NOT TAKE UP THEIR OFFER as most comments here point to the fact that its the same dvd.
However upon further browsing, i release that the stated running time on Amazon.com for the dvd is 223 mins whereas my copy states only 205. As i stated in one of post here, i was asking if anyone has a copy and so that i could verify the running time SO THAT I NEED NOT DO A REFUND. I also email Amazon about my queries regarding the running time.
They answered that they might have mixed up my order and offered to do a refund and they admitted that ITS THEIR MISTAKE.
If you take a look now at the JFK SE no running time is stated. Before my email to them. it states 223 mins same as the running time stated in the Oliver Stone Directors Cut version of the dvd.You can check out the running time at the amazon website.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...d&vi=tech-info
Amazon only deleted the running time of the SE after my email.
I did not claim a defective disk and till now i do not know whether if they sent me a wrong disk unless some kind soul would check for me at their local B&M stores. As i stated in one of my posts, my local B&M Stores all stock canadian versions so i cant go and check it myself
i offered to send it back to them and they kindly said to keep it.
So in conclusion
1) i did not claim a defective disk and i till now do not know if they had sent me a wrong disk. They themselves said that they might have mixed up my order and they do not know if the disk i have in hand is correct
2) i offered to send them back the dvd but they said its their mistake and its expensive for them if they paid for my postage back to them so they would rather i keep it.
all my correspondence with them had been kept and and can be put up here as prove .
Pls do not call me a thief. There are lots of people on this forum who intentionally take advantages of mistakes of both B&M and online stores' pricing mistake and I don’t see people calling them names
I did nothing intentional. It was just that it makes more business sence to Amazon if the cost of postages is higher than the cost of the dvd, they would rather lose the dvd than pay the postages

I still don't understand why you wanted a refund. There is no 223 minute version available. It was just a typo on the website. The 17 mins. of additional footage is based on the theatrical run time of 189 mins., so you have the additional footage. It just seems suspect that you were provided with the information that the US and Canadian releases were exactly the same and were given a link to site that compares the different versions, yet you went for a refund after it was posted that amazon.com doesn't ask for the dvd back for international orders.

no info was given with regards to the running time with the link that was given to me.
i had some big orders from amazon like the buffy gift set 1-4 ... if i wanted to cheat Amazon out of some dvds i would have gone for my big order instead of only 1 dvd...
i wouldnt get rich from scoring one dvd off them.
Ps the link that was provided to me was Rewind and no wheredid it state the running time of the dvd.. the link is as follows

in another thread at dvd talk, you praise someone for scoring a TTTgift set for 21.99 INTENTIONALLy and here you are attacking me for gaining a dvd UNINTENTIONALLY. ???? hmm.......
the JFK cost only about $20 after STL and the difference in the price of the TTT gift pack is about say $30...
you do the math
why dont you attack the other fellow for not letting the seller know that the correct price is about $50 ( WHICH i repeat is intentionally not letting the other party know) instead of accusing me of trying to score a dvd off Amazon which is totally unintentional, given all the work i had done to try to obtain info with regards to the dvd SO THAT I CAN KEEP IT instead of getting a refund

thanks for believing me.....no one likes being called names especially when i see so many people intentionally taking advange of the online stores frequent mispricing and no one says anything about that and i am being being called a thief when its was my every intention to return the dvd to Amazon only that they do not want it.
As i stated i wanted to be sure that the copy that i have is the one that is on sale in US and not those in Canada.
Even the people from Amazon could not confirm with me that they had sent me the correct dvd . Thats was y i finally decided to opt for the refund.
The reason that i wanted the refund would be so that i could it order it from DDD to be sure that my copy is a US and not a Canada copy

Not sure if this relates, but I once ordered BLUE CRUSH from Amazon.com because I did not want the bilingual cover that Amazon.ca would no doubt send me.
When my order arrived it magically still contained the Canadian release (bilingual). I returned the DVD in a box stating it was not the version I ordered (I assume they just shipped out of a warehouse in Canada to save time and money) and my credit card was properly refunded eventually.
Amazon.com is GREAT at refunding and exchanging. I've used them many times since, but now try Amazon.ca when I can as it's slightly cheaper when considering the exchange rate...
Now they (amazon.ca) often have an option to order an IMPORT version of a DVD which refers to the non-bilingual version.

I've been able to return discs that just weren't compatible with my player after I opened them. Got the replacements and tried another player and they played fine.
As for pricing, while in a lot of cases you can find them cheaper elsewhere, for the big box sets (especially the TV ones) or for multiple items (with free shipping) they are the best. They are also the easiest so I use them for most of my online shopping.

That isn't true at all. Amazon has probably the best return system of any retailer. Just go to their website, click that you want to return it and it is defective and they will send you out another one.
