Indiana Jones set: was it worth the wait?

Anytime it takes a long time for a desired movie to come to DVD, especially a big title that seems to be in popular demand, I have to at least hope it will be worth the wait once it comes out, because then I will feel the wait was justified. So, was the wait justified for the Indiana Jones movies? Personally, no, I don't think so. The movies themselves are all bare bones, and the bonus disc's strong point are the documentaries, which could have graced the set at anytime, really. I feel after watching it all that they could have put this out far earlier if they really wanted to find the time to do it, but chose to wait for whatever reason. I am happy to have it on DVD, but considering how long the format has been around, I still don't understand why it took this long. The damn bonus features should have surpassed those on the LOTR extended sets for as long as we have waited for this.

Indiana Jones set: was it worth the wait?

Was it worth the wait for another thread on this?

I understand how you can feel disappointed. ANY DVD release is hard to compete with the LOTR sets.

But, for me, the bottom line is that the movies look and sound terrific. I think it was worth the wait.

I will probably be flamed for this, but I don't think it was worth the wait. For all the extras (or lack there of) that were put on this DVD set, I don't see why it couldn't have been put out years ago (unless there are legal reasons I'm not aware of which would be understandable).

This are some of my (like many people) all-time favorite movies, & as someone else said when you see treatments like the L.O.T.R. movies, that is what I want out of the Indy set. At the very least, I want commentaries. I can't help but think in a year or two, we will see the Ultimate Indy Adventures with more extras & commentaries etc, etc,. So despite being the weak willed movie fan I am, I bought it instantly, yet I am still disappointed b/c I don't think the final product was worth the wait.

I would have gotten it if it had commentaries.

That was the selling point for me.

They could have ommited the 4th disc and I still would have been happy. Hearing the Indiana Jones theme scream through my speakers in 5.1 and being able to watch the movie in crystal clear widescreen was worth the wait for me.

I really miss commentaries on this disk. I was really hoping for a SPeilberg and Lucus Tag Team Comm on each disk but that didnt happen. I still think it was great though, the quality is amazing.

The sound and picture quality were very good overall but the xtras were nothing to shake a whip at (get it?)

One thing I also realised watching the 3 movies back to back to back Temple Of Doom really sucked compared to the other 2

..One more thing I know Kate Capshaw your now Mrs Spielberg but I have to say you and Mr Ford had 0 chemistry in TOD
Should have braught back Karen Allen imo

The little kid Short Round was great though

YES! IT WAS ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE WAIT! And, I too, wonder how long we have to WAIT for these Indy threads to come to a halt!

I'm really glad to finally have it, and it was worth every penny I paid. But it wasn't worth the wait. This set deserved so much more - commentaries, deleted scenes, etc.

I think it was worth the wait, especially for the low price and TERRIFIC quality.

The extras disc was fine - nothing spectacular, but the new interviews were nice.

Anyway, the old docs will be out in a separate release next year for you competists.

I definitly think like most things in life, the anticipation is the best part, so far the only dvd I have gotten that has satisfied me for a long period of time without leaving me with an empty feeling soon after I got it was FOTR EE, the only thing I really think is missing from the indiana jones set that I would have wanted is commentary tracks, but in this case I don't mind not having it so much, I have a feeling ford would have been really boring to listen to, he was such a boring monotone in the documentry, and I really don't want to hear lucas or speilberg talk about movies that have pumped up their egos for the last 15-20 years

the extras were reeealllly lacking. however, i am glad that i was able to watch it on my 16:9 tv in crystal clear picture and with 5.1 sound. it had been awhile since i had seen any of them and so this was really cool.

DVDfile.com Indiana Jones Q&A
So, just why did the set take so long? Why six years?

JW: Well, it is always an issue. And I know when I answer this one you are going to hit me with Star Wars so I'm going to kill two birds with one stone. It is an issue of aligning the planets. In particular with Indiana Jones, you have people like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Frank Marshall...that all have to sort of get together and create a vision for this thing. And it just takes time to do that. With schedules and timing and all of that. So it basically wasn't until a year ago when we started this project that that really could happen. And it is the same issue with Star Wars with George's focus (now) on Episode III. Yes, the original Star Wars trilogy will come out on DVD. We just don't have a timeframe. But we did get Indy out, guys! (laughter)

It was worth it.

All 3 movies have superb audio and video, one of the best documentaries, and great featurettes.

I would have liked commentaries, but the documentary made up for them.

Worth the wait? Yes!! I thoroughly enjoyed sitting back and watching these in my own little home theater. Extras lacking? Yeah, there coulda been more, but it was the movies I was waiting for.

The DVDFILE.COM interview was enlightening (thanks a lot bis22). And, one thing which seems to be firmed up now is whether the original Star Wars Trilogy will make it to DVD! Amazing!! Star Wars IV (the first one) was in theaters when I was a young man. Now I'm getting to be an old man. Will the original trilogy make it to DVD in my lifetime?!?! Well, have to wait & see I guess. Anyway - there is still hope!!

It looks like the SW:OT:SE discs will be out around this time next year, if rumours are to be believed.

Remember, we heard Indy rumours like this around this time last year. So they've proven to be reliable.

And they'd really push the Episode III theatrical release in May 2005.
