Dvds from Amazon.Com

i just received my JFK special edition from them and i saw an Canadian Home Video Sign from on the back of the dvd.
Sorry for such a silly question but i thought that only dvds that i order from Canadian webstes have the Canadian rating sign ?
its my 1st time ordering from the Amazon.com as i usually order from Amazon.ca thus such a silly question

thanks for all your response

They did the same thing with About a Boy. In general, though, when you order from Amazon.com, you get the US version, not the Canadian one.

I believe the Canadian rating is on the back of all R1 Warner Bros. discs. Since they sell the exact same dvd in both countries, both ratings are on there.

All R1 dvds should have the Canadian rating symbol. Canandians and Americans generally get the same DVDs (except for those abominations that are bilingual covers).

Bilingual covers do indeed suck. I wish there was some way to know what upcoming releases had them so I could order from the US instead of being dissapointed when picking it up in the shop.

This isn't news. Go to your local BestBuy or Circuit City, etc, and check out their DVD collection. A lot of them has the red maple leaf logo.

Speaking of Amazon, unless you like throwing your money away, don't buy DVDs from them. I just got this new DVD and found out it's a bad disc, but according to Amazon's return policy, they don't accept returns on opened DVDs. They don't even do exchanges. What a load of shit. So I'm stuck here w/ a god damn defect DVD and I'm out $17. Never will I order DVD from Amazon. At least BB lets me exchange poorly manufactured DVDs.

I hated when I got my BTTF Trilogy from DVDSoon back in Feb/March and the cover was in Canadian.

FuzzyBallz, Amazon will accept returns on defective DVDs. I ordered a copy of Jaws and it had a slight crack in the case. I sent it back and got a full refund without problems.

Amazon has an online contact form regarding defective DVDs. They'll send you a new copy right away via next day air. They give you a return postage stamp to print out so you won't have to pay for return shipping. The only thing is that you have to return the defective DVD within a month or they will charge your credit card for the disc. I've returned a couple of bad DVDs in the past and have been extremely pleased with how Amazon resolved the problem.

Fyi,

They DO exchange defective discs. You write customer service in advance and they will send you a replacement right away. You just have to send the bad disc/s back..

It happened to me 2x with Outer Limits & Stargate Box set

They just don't give refunds for opended packagaes..Not quite the same thing

Sorry guys, but I was looking all over Amazon for the returning defective DVD form/page, but couldn't find it, thus the post of frustration. Link please?

Update: NM, I found it. I need some major vacation.

The link is way at the bottom of their web page (underneath the shipping info link) so isnt the easiest to spot.

hands down, Amazon has the BEST return policy of any other etailer. if you call them, they will send you a replacement immediately and send it 2nd day UPS......and then tell you how to print out a prepaid mailing label on their site.

I always wait until i get the replacement before sending the first back, especially with multiple disc sets to make sure that the new one is ok (in case i could mix and match discs between them to get all nonscratched discs or what not).

recently I have gotten several scratched discs from DDD, and the process takes forever!! they will not send out a new one until they get the old one back, and it took me two weeks to just get the mailing labels in the mail. it takes about 6 weeks to get the new stuff. with Amazon it takes 3 or 4 days.

Also, at Amazon, if you just go to the "order" there is a link which is labeled "need to return an item?". You don't need to go searching around all over their website for 800 numbers, addresses and so on! What could be more easy and hassle free! I have only had to have one item replaced by Amazon, and seeing as I live so far away, they didn't even make me return it - a BIG box set of 16 discs, a 30 minute glitch on only 1 disc, and they replaced the whole set! (Friends - The Complete First 4 Seasons).

I agree 150%. My experiences have been exactly the same.

I agree with Silver Screen.

I once ordered a set of 4 films via expedited shipping but did not receive them so Amazon kindly despatched the same 4 films to me again via DHL courier and I received it two days later. Two of the films were Criterions too. A couple weeks later I received the original package, I asked Amazon whether they would like me to end the original package back to them and they said it was ok and that I could keep them!

This is the reason why I have two copies of Robocop and Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas on the Criterion label.

Not bad eh?

thanks for all the feedback..

Amazon did offer me a full refund if i do not like the dvd .... but since all the feedback points to the idea that it would be the same regardless of where i order the dv dfrom.. think i would keep it.
cheers

You must be outside the U.S. Otherwise, amazon would have asked you to ship it back at their cost (using their prepaid label that you print online).

sorry to bother you guys again

i just realised that the copy i have from the Amazon.com states that the run time is 205 mins. however the Amazon website states that the run time for the copy should be 223 which ties in to what they say on their website which states that the US version has 17 mins not seen in North America
i cant check out any B&M stores at my place as all retailers at my places sells Canada versions due to cheaper cost( I am staying abroad)
can anyone help me ? i wish to know is there any difference in the copy from US and the copy from Canada

thanks a zillion

According to Rewind (who are, generally, pretty accurate) there are no differences in the cut of the film for the three R1 versions of JFK (the regular, the Oliver Stone Collection, and the SE).

thanks for all the help

i have decided to do a refund to Amazon as they had offered to do a full refund and ask me to keep the dvd instead of returning the dvd to them

Great service Amazon

PS they have since remove the running time of the JFK SE after my email to them guess it was a mistake on their part ?

wow,

you're ripping off a company with great prices, essentially stealing from them.

kudos to you.
