Just getting the EE.
I passed on the theatrical because I didn't think the movie was all that. Hopefully the extended cut will make me appreciate it better.

I have the theatrical cut and I pre-ordered the gift set of the EE of TTT. This is exactly what I did when FOTR came out on DVD. If there is ever a third release I'd probably get that too.

I bought the theatrical disc on the release day because it was too cheap not to, and it came with a free 12 pack of soda and an Aragorn Bobbleehead. Who can say no to that? I watched it, then gave it to my Mom. I'll be buying the EE tomorrow, probably not the gift set.

no theatrical for me, but i am counting the nano-seconds until i can pop the EE in my DVD player. for me, the EE are the real movies, and the other ones are just really long teaser trailers...

EE for me. Was going to the the theatrical, but I had discounts and gift certs for Amazon, bringing the EE to about ten bucks including shipping, so I decided to go for it.
Only have the Theatrical for FotR; was planning to buy the EE, but never got around to it, and honestly, I very rarely re-watch movies. I might keep an eye out for a deal on FotR EE, and eventually get all three EE's.
Not getting the gift set; I don't need any more little knick knacks around the house; I could have used the bookends, but I don't need a 25.00 pair of bookends.
I will say this: kudos to Jackson and crew for all their hard work, both on the movies themselves and on the DVD releases. *This* is what a 'double dip' should be like.
Can't wait to watch TTT on my 60" HDTV : ).....although Amazon hasn't even shipped the silly thing yet...

Okay . . . you've piqued my curiosity . . . what are your reasons for buying DVD's if you rarely re-watch movies?

Sometimes I'm very interested in the extras, sometimes I just want to 'own' it, and sometimes it's 'too cheap to pass up.' My purchase of TTT:EE fits all of those, and eventually I'd like to take a Saturday or whatever and watch all three EE's together. I've also got a bit of a 'collector' mentality, and since I've been out of console gaming for a while, that has kind of shifted to DVD's.
My dvd-purchasing is slowing down a lot, however; and since DVD's are available so cheaply nowadays, I really have to double-think about buying anything that costs more than 12-15 bucks [plus other personal constraints on budget].
Also, I rent from Netflix mainly, and as huge as they are, there's still some things they don't carry [some anime series, especially the later volumes]. Actually, I need to go through my list and post a sell/trade list to clean out some of the stuff I *know* I won't watch again, and get some fresh meat in there.

Didn't buy the Theatrical, will buy the EE and keep that badboy for life (or until I can't play it anymore)

The movie was long enough in the theaters and it was Best Picture Nominee material. Good enough for me.

I was going to stick with just the theatrical version (as I did with FoTR). It's not that I didn't want both, it's just that it seemed so ... self-indulgent. But then this weekend, I had the following conversation with my wife (who has never read the books and isn't a big fan of fantasy):
Her: I suppose you'll want to see the new Lord of the Rings movie when it comes out.
Me: Of course.
Her: OK. Well, I guess we should watch the first two again before we see the third.
Me: Sounds good.
Her: Isn't there a longer version with more scenes or something?
Me: Yeah, but we only have the theatrical version.
Her: I think we ought to get the longer version. I feel like I'd enjoy them more if I had a fuller explanation of the story and what is going on.
So we picked up the FoTR EE this weekend and will get the TT EE this weekend. And I'm hanging on to my theatrical versions!

EE only. Picked it up today actually
Just finished watching it. Another great improvement over the theatrical version. Most of the new scenes fit in really well, and fleshed out existing scenes much better than the theatrical version. Nearly everything new is character moments. There are a few other scenes that are great, but I can see why they took them out originally because they cut into the mood of the film.
I'll hopefully be able to start tackling some of the supplements on disc 3 tonight.
