Indiana Jones set: was it worth the wait? (merged)

Totally worth the wait. Great transfers, great DD 5.1 sound (don't care about DTS, sounds no better on my system usually) and that's all I ask for.
I haven't checked out the extra's yet, not really my bag very often. I'd rather watch a movie in my limited free time, not documentaries.

The packaging is lacking, and there aren't a ton of extras but it's Indiana Jones. 'Nuff said.
For those that want a commentary track, which btw I do, would you buy another set if it came out. I don't mind a double dip every now and again, but not when I end up paying $90 for it. I'm happy with what came out. The picture and sound are incredible.
If they had done to much more to the set (packing and extras) it would have gotten too expensive for my tight back pocket.
Mark me down for satisfied.

I thought about it some more, and you could really compare Indiana Jones to Star Trek, since both movie franchises were successful in the 80's originally. Now, when Star Trek (the movies) got released on DVD at first, Paramount let the fans know the two disc SEs would be coming eventually, and people could choose to buy the bare bones single discs or wait. I chose to wait, renting the ones I really wanted to see, and buying only First Contact, since I loved that movie enough to justify it to me, even if the two disc comes out soon. The Star Trek movies have excellent bonus features, and I have watched all the bonus material on the second discs. I wish that Indiana Jones had been a six disc set, with each movie being a two disc SE after the likes of the Star Trek SEs.
I don't want anybody to get me wrong. If it took Paramount/Lucasfilm this long to get the mastered prints looking so good for the release, then that's cool. Better to have the transfers done right than crappy looking transfers early on for such beloved movie titles. To get the movie looking so good and so fine is worth the wait, but considering the wait, I would have hoped they could have done more on the bonus discs, and given us a six disc set.
I have to also wonder if they will "double dip" these movies later on? Remember when Indiana Jones came out on VHS in 99 (and all the fans angry they didn't come out on DVD?) and they released the entire Young Indiana Jones series (if I recall right) and all the movies, and all the boxes had chapter numbers on them? Well, I wondered where were the chapter numbers on the Indy set? Will they release the two disc SEs (I have heard nothing, just pure speculation on my part) when Young Indiana Jones is released, or are they not doing the chapter numbers for the DVDs?

it was absolutely not worth the wait.
i haven't finished all the extras (or been able to actually sit through the temple of doom) but i haven't seen anything thus far that would required a "vision."
this could of easily been relased last year or the year before, etc.
a crisp transfer and clean sound isn't a bonus of the dvd format, it is the requirement, despite some releases/studios.
i'm thrilled to have it, yes. but there was absolutely nothing worth it to have waited so long. infact i hate those animated menu things, cheap, lazy and uninspired.

I'm let down a bit by the set/ I'm happy to own it but I can't believe a franchise such as this got such weak extras.
I'm amazed they didn't go all out in order to raise interest for Indy 4.....and they'll really have to win me over to go see it as I'm happy where the series ended years ago.
Commentaries would of greatly improved this set. I'm addicted to them and it would of really helped my opinion of this set.

It was worth the wait. This set was cheap, I got mine for $44, which made the set come out to $11 per disc. Not bad at all. It lacks in the extras department, but for the price and the quality of the transfer, i'm happy with it.

I loved the set and I like others am thrilled to watch it anamorphic 5.1. That said the extras left me wanting more.
I would have been totally happy with a section of deleted scenes. As with the ET docs, the Indy docs show snippets of scenes that were left on the editing room floor, but people are voicing over them. I waited 20 years to see the much-ballyhooed scenes of Harrison Ford as Elliot's principal in ET, and parts are shown on the ET doc. I was so pissed that these scenes were not presented in their entirity for posteriy's sake. In the doc for Indy you see the original fight between Indy and the Cairo swordsman. Would have been nice to see it complete.
Which brings me to Star Wars: [rant] If anyone from LF or Fox cruises these forums, WE WANT THE DELETED SCENES.
The diehard fans have purchased the SW trilogy on VHS ad nauseum. We want this DVD release to be special more than just picture and sound. I want a section of deleted scenes. I want to see Biggs and Luke on Tatooine. I want to see C-3P0 and the Wampas on Hoth. I want to see Luke jump onto the gratings to escape the Rancor. Give us these scenes in their own little section. [/rant]
I hope that the Indy and ET scenes were omitted at the whim of Speilberg and not Lucas, and that Lucas will give us the SW deleted scenes.

have to agree with Venom.
nice to have the sets, the A/V quality of Raiders is fine- but nothing impressive- and certainly nothing that screams "we've been working on these discs for QUITE a while".
the menus in particular look like a cheap and lazy last minute work up.
there was a site that had menu and jacket designs for this movie done by a talanted fan, and both looked more 'special' (and classy) than what Paramount worked up.
extras, ultimately aren't a big deal to me.
its nice to have them, but in most cases i don't even get around to watching them once.
even the packaging doesn't matter much to me anymore as i can always buy a blank case and make my own if i'm not happy.
it all comes down to the transfer and how it looks and sounds, and on that point, i'm more impressed by the few minutes i saw from OUATITW than Raiders.
so bottom line, this is not state of the art, and the end product could have easily come out 1 or 2 yrs ago and still looked about the same.

But since you brought them up, the deleted scenes for AOTC were a bit lacking, especially since die-hards are well aware of several other cut scenes that would have been a better inclusion.
The deleted scenes on TPM were well done.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
My point was that Lucas has a track record for putting deleted scenes on Star Wars DVDs. So it's more, rather than less likely that there will be some deleted scenes (albeit perhaps some CGI-enhanced deleted scenes) for the upcoming OT set.
That was my point.
That was my point.
