Before everyone gets excited: look who is releasing these films. It's Pacific Family Entertainment, the bootlegging outfit behind the abominable pirated release of The Final Countdown. I wouldn't get my hopes up for these discs.

I can 99% guarantee they will be bare bones, non-anamorphic or fullscreen releases at best. Maybe I'll be wrong, but Pacific is a horrible company.

TheKing 08-12-03 04:20 AM

KISS meets the Phantom Of The Park!!!! YES!!!

A black stand in for Ace in several scenes!!!
Peter's voice dubbed!!!

RIP RIP RIP AND DESTROY!!!!!!

Great... :(

dknight04 08-12-03 07:55 AM

Is this date confirmed or only rumored? Any other sites also confirm Oct. 28 for release?

Geofferson 08-12-03 08:30 AM

Great news (I just hope the disc is great too).

The Void 08-12-03 08:43 AM

I'd like to have Monster Squad. I probably watched that and The Goonies 100 times each when I was a kid. I don't have my hopes too high for the disc though.

salamander2 08-12-03 07:55 PM

Before people complaina bout KISS MEETS PHANTOM the original OAR is fullscreen, not wide.

Yeah, wasnt this a TV movie once upon a time? I only ever remember catching it late night on cable when I was a youngin'

Either way, this is some sweet, sweet news!

Yes, I can remember the night it aired, my dad went to take me to see some damn fireworks, while my step mother stayed at home and watched it!

ARRRGGGHHHH

"Star Child!"

Mondo Kane 08-12-03 09:24 PM

"Boppin' til you drop! Dancin' till your feet fall off!"
(I think that's how that song went)

El-Kabong 08-12-03 09:29 PM

And the thing is - people are afraid that the company will put out a crappy disc, based on their previous reputation. I've not seen anything they've released before so I cant judge - HOWever, anything will be a step in the right direction for this film. If you were lucky enough to find it on tape, you'll pay 20-30 bucks for a worn out crappy looking film. The LD isnt that much better and you'll pay dearly for the privlage.

All I ask is that it's slightly better than VHS and is reasonably priced (in the 10-15 buck range). Anything above and beyond that - extras, trailers, commentary - is pure gravy.

I'm definitely going to wait for some reviews before I get it. If you saw their Final Countdown dvd, you would wait too. It was worse than VHS. But I hope they have improved and will produce a decent dvd.

Apocrypha 08-13-03 09:39 AM

MAZES and MONSTERS has that whole finale inside the WTC and atop it. Glad to see all of these titles getting released, even if they are gonna be fly by night discs.

Matt969 08-21-03 02:25 PM

anyone see any specs for this yet?

Mikey 08-21-03 02:31 PM

how did this small company end up with the Monster Squad? I'm sure it wasn't that expensive to aquire the rights for the film, so its too bad that Artisan or Anchor bay couldn't do a dvd of it.

Basically, from what I read, they don't have the rights to it. They will probably transfer it from the Japanese laser disc. So basically this just makes them a bootlegging operation.

El-Kabong 08-21-03 06:50 PM

So do we have any proof that they do/do not have the rights to Monster Squad/Kiss/Final Countdown? I checked out that HTF.com thread and all I saw was a lynch mob of people saying "Yeah! Theres NO way these guys have the rights!"

Until I see something to back up the claims, I wont write off these releases yet.

demonio 08-21-03 08:11 PM

knowing the money whores that KISS are, they'd definatly of bought the rights to Meets The Phantom and release it under their KISS dvd line or whatever they've got.

I can't believe Monster Squad is coming to DVD!!!! This is the best news ever i can't wait. First The 6th Man and now finally Monster Squad!!!!! What a great year!!!

wordtoyamotha 08-21-03 10:55 PM

My name *chck-chck* is Horace!!

MaDJoE 08-29-03 03:58 PM

Has any store put up a pre-order for Monster Squad yet? I really want this film just wish any other company had the rights to it.

Matt969 09-07-03 11:24 AM

bump

Which Button? 09-07-03 03:17 PM

I noticed Amazon dosen't have it even listed. They usually are really good about things like before the movie comes out. They had Honey I Shrunk the Kids, UHF & The Sixth Man on there before there was even a release date.

Is there any other info on Monster Squad?

Matt969 09-16-03 02:51 PM

still haven't heard anything new about this. anyone else?

Nothing official, but I heard a rumor Universal had put the kibosh on the MONSTER SQAD DVD until after VAN HELSING next year.

Sunday Morning 09-25-03 02:15 PM

I thought columbia/tristar had the rights to this film.

That would be cool i'm so looking forward to Van Helsing and to get Monster Squad at the same time would rock.

You're confusing that with the rumor about Universal delaying re-releasing the Universal Classic Monster series for Van Helsing. Universal is unlikely to have any say in the release of The Monster Squad.

Bumping this back up due to it being October and no sign of pre-order availible. I really want Night of the Comet. Has anyone heard anything? Anyone offering pre-orders yet?

Which Button? 10-07-03 11:08 AM

Yes we need an update on Monster Squad.
