I always dislked the "X Men United" title. Guess it for for the stupid people who didnt know X2 was xmen 2.

oh well, I liked the film and thats whats important.

Grandmaster C 08-06-03 05:09 PM

I don't like how they have to different sets of cover art for the WS and FF editions. Especially since the like the FF cover better (I loved Ian McKellan as Magneto).

I hate when the studios do this, the same thing happened when Spider-Man came out, where I preferred the FF cover art of the WS cover art.

Oh well, I'm sure it'll still be a great disc, but it's still kinda disappointing for me. -ohbfrank-

TheKing 08-06-03 05:24 PM

Would you rather them do something like Disney did for The Rookie, where you had to look at the specs in order to determine if it was the WS version or not?

I like when they do this, anything that makes Widescreen stand out clearly from FF is a good thing.

Kal-El 08-06-03 05:57 PM

Good thing Halle's mug is on the full screen disc art.

fumanstan 08-06-03 05:58 PM

Ugh, large Halle pic again despite her limited role. Give it to someone who deserves it, like Nightcrawler in the front with Wolverine!

Looks nice though, aside from the fact that it looks to be in an amary case instead of the digipak that X-Men 1.5 is in... aka they won't match. Grrr.

Well, personally I wouldn't mind that, because I always read the specs whenever I buy a movie anyway. But it's good for Joe 6 Pack that it stands out a little more.

Don't get me wrong either, I wouldn't have said anything if the cover that I liked was on the widescreen version instead (just personal bias here) but in the end, it's no big deal. I'll still buy the DVD and I doubt I'm gonna lose any sleep over something like this.

Doesn't look bad at all. Was an entertaining flick, may have to purchase. Can't wait to see some specs.

AdamComic2 08-06-03 06:58 PM

I really like the cover.

cloudnin 08-06-03 08:36 PM

Famke Janssen isn't on the cover.

Oh well, I wasn't going to buy this anyway.

trigun 08-06-03 09:27 PM

I haven't seen X2, but was wondering if Wolverine is in the movie? I can't tell from the cover.

Actually no, the whole movie is a character study about Cyclops.

RyoHazuki 08-06-03 09:52 PM

At least it doesnt have big blurbs like "TWO CLAWS UP!!!" or "X2 is even BETTER than the first."

LOL, Two claws up, that's classic. I would buy the dvd for that comment alone.

Rypro 525 08-06-03 11:29 PM

thank god, we get a babe in blue on our cover and j6p gets the two old men. -wink-

No DTS

The specs for the first one look like it won't be DTS. Every now and then a studio does the right thing and releases a movie DTS on the first one. It looks like we'll have to wait for X2.5. I really hate that nonsense. Are there many people here who didn't know that the second Lord of the Rings would be available in DTS several months later than the first release. This re-releasing is very annoying. I'm willing to bet that X2 will be available in a DTS flavor not far from now, I just wish they would be upfront about it. What I'd like most is for them to release the plain version and the DTS version simultaneously so they can get a good feel for what people want. Releasing a DTS version several months later and after so many people already purchased the original release and aren't willing to buy a second copy isn't an accurate way of tracking demand.

RyoHazuki 08-07-03 12:08 AM

Why in blue hell is Yuriko Oyama on the disc two? She was in the movie for the sole purpose of having someone for wolverine to fight because no one (besides the people here at dvdtalk) would pay $7 to watch Hugh Jackman slap around Brian Cox.

RyoHazuki 08-07-03 12:10 AM

Also heres the Region 2 art for all you region-free-i-love-to-hate-region-1 people.

You mean Deathstrike? I don't like calling her something that wasn't mentioned in the movie, and for people that might not know :P Anyway, it certainly looks cool with her on the disc, so its fine by me :)

Also... where did you pick up that there's no DTS? Nothing mentioned in this thread gives me that impression. And considering Daredevil has DTS, which was also released by FOX, along with X-Men 1.5, i'd think this release would as well.

william stryker calls her by that name.

is deathstike used in the film? i don't remember.

fox usually uses digipaks. like the recent 2-disc something about mary. i don't think they will use amarays. Instead they will probably get rid of the second disc later on.

fumanstan 08-07-03 04:00 AM

Er... i guess your right. For some reason i kept thinking of an interview or something where Kelly Hu just said Deathstrike. Nevermind. Tiring day :(

And Daredevil is in a regular keepcase, so there's definitly a possiblity.

chente 08-07-03 12:17 PM

Is there confirmation that they will do a X2.5 verison?

No. Just speculation from paranoid fans.

I can't say for sure the U.S. version will be DD only but this is what I've seen so far.

Now I'm curious... is the name deathstryke ever used in the movie? I would guess it's used in that trailer where they name everyone one by one.

And I did not know daredevil was an amaray. Then you're right, there's a big possibility they won't match. Grrr is right.

But you know the cover design is similar to 1.5. Let's hope they decide to main continuity.

CuriousGeorge 08-07-03 02:02 PM

I assume the Bryan Singer commentary will be on the next release along with the DTS track, hmm? This edition already looks like it has a nice handful of extras, but yeah I think they'll pull some more out of their asses for a 2.5 or whatever they want to call it.

I have a strong feeling it WON'T be called 2.5 though because 1.5 only implied the longer director's cut that Singer wanted on the 1.5 discs in the first place. Time constraints forced them to dump that project and just release it with the 1.5 moniker without the extended version of the first movie, which was as dissappointing for Singer as it was for us.

Strangely enough the supposed region 2 artwork shows the dts logo on the spine. The plot thickens...

I like that region 2 cover more. Hopefully they'll have it on DVDcoverart.com in the future.

Someone at the HTF made a cover that easily beats all the others. :)

I'm pretty sure "Deathstrike" was used a number of times in the movie, probably every time by Stryker... I don't think she was ever called Lady Deathstrike though...
It looks like they put her on the other disc because it's a nice contrast to Wolverine.

Well that region 2 artwork may have dts, but that region 2 would be Japan (and not Europe as the link supports). Not to mention the specs are only partial and not for R1.
