Do you own the entire collection on DVD-A few discs-Planning on buying them(some or all) in the near future-waiting for a price drop or perhaps season sets(I think not)? What about the other Star Trek franchises-do you plan on buying them all or a few here and there?

I still haven't bought any of the TOS because they're too expensive and 40 disks is too much.If there not gonna make season sets I hope they just re-issue these same disks drop the price and pack them in slim packs, atleast then it will take up less space.
I own all the TNG sets and have the 1st 3 DS9 one's.Won't bother with Voyager because I found the series lame.

I was never a big fan of TOS so I only have a handful of eps. Basically I picked up those titles that had something to do with other trek storylines (Space Seed, Mirror Mirror, Tribbles). I'll pick up Amok Time and City on the Edge sometime in the future simply because I like those eps. I have all the TNG sets and the first 3 DS9 sets (will purchase them all). It would take a massive price drop for me to get Voyager.

I started collecting the whole series but got frustrated at the expense and room they took up. I now have about 2/3 of the set with just the episodes I really like.

I have Disks 1, 2, 6, 7, 12, 14, 18, 20, 22, 29, 30, 40 of TOS.
Since all the DVDs would cost to much, 2 of my friends and I joined forces to complete TOS DVD set, sharing each DVD amoung each other. We still have a few DVDs to go, but it has been fun to watch the old show.
If you do a search on Star Trek, you will find many threads concerning the issue you list.

I have been considering this purchase for many weeks. It just feels wrong to have 40 dvd's of a series not in a boxset.
I pray for the day they realize people want this, but not individually. Jesus it is what has made every other Star Trek possible.

I've got them all, bought them when they were first released. (Back in the day, when you could get great deals if you worked at it.) I agree that season sets would have been nice, but at the time, that was a pretty novel concept. They started releaseing these in August of 1999. Though DVD was off to a good start by then, it was by no means guarenteed that it would grow into what it has become today. (Even more so when you consider there is considerable lead time before a DVD hits the shelves. They probably started planning these in early '99.) I assume they thought that no one would pony up the considerable bucks they'd want for a full season. (And probably figured that they'd make more $$ with individual DVDs.) They were wrong as it turns out.
I love my set. My family is going through them in chronological order now and my 7 and 10 YO sons love the show. It was a considerable inverstment, but well worth it IMO. Heck, I used to DREAM about owning all the Star Trek episodes and all the Monty Pythons when I was a kid (before VCRs etc.) Now I have them both!

I have all of the original series discs (this started back in the day when Reel.com had constant $10 off $25 purchase coupons and I could get 2 TOS discs for about $17.xx shipped).
I have all seven TNG and all available DS9.
I have serious doubts I'll buy a single Voyager set.

I am a huge fan of TOS (the only Trek series that I would buy DVDs of), but there is no way that I am buying those 2-episode discs. Season sets or nothing.
However, if they do come out with season sets, I would buy the 1st 2 seasons and then maybe just the 2-episode discs containing the 3rd season episodes The Enterprise Incident and The Tholian Web. The rest of the 3rd season is rather disappointing.

I just can't believe so many people like Deep Space Nine. As far as I know all of my friends and I completely hate Deep Space Nine. The series is too political and drags on too long without any new race or exploration being introduced in the show.
Voyager, on the other hand, is not lame at all. It is what Star Trek is all about exploration and discovering new races and cultures. In fact, I found this series even better than Deep Space Nine and the Next Generation. How can you not like a show where you're with the crew of the only Federation starship trapped in the delta quadrant. Brings a sense of ominous feeling about it.

I have about 2/3 of all the TOS discs. I pick them up about 2-3 at a time online at a decent price. I hope to have them all by the end of the year.
I solved the space issue by hitting dvdcoverart.com and d/l Ric Easton's alternate covers. He has alt. covers for 8 volumes of 5-disc cases for TOS. Takes up about half the space of the individual discs and the covers are MUCH nicer looking than what was issued.
Figuring that a season set of TOS would cost the same as the others (Approx. $100...somewhat cheaper online), it's about $100 difference from the approximately $400 total spent for individual TOS....including the number of discs that I've received as gifts. Not too bad considering I've had many of them for quite a while and season sets aren't exactly on the way yet.

I too bought the earlier releases of the discs back when Reel.com had coupons out the wazoo. However, I ran out of steam after the first 10 discs and from them on out I only picked up 8 more. I hope they eventually re-release these in season boxed sets and go back to fix a few problems with the current ones. From what I understand, there are a few missing sound effects from a few episodes here and there. Also, the transfer for City on the Edge of Forever is messed up. The video jitters up and down the screen; it's very weird and especially annoying since this is one of the better episodes of any Trek.

I very well might start picking up some of the sets - but ONLY through a deal like myfreedvds.com or somesuch. 400 bucks for a series I enjoy but not love is well beyond my means. From the points from signing up for credit cards, I can get at least 8 or 10 of them. That should be enough to get the really good episodes.

That said. I'm very glad I have it. Yes I think it was over priced, but I spent almost 4 years collecting it and its had multiple viewings. Would I do it again..... not sure. Knowing what I know now. I can understand the corner paramount boxed itself into... Take a look at the early distribution of Twilight zone.
But lets give credit where credit is due, paramount made these discs available. Just be glad George Lucas doesn't own the francise or we'd still be waiting.... for god knows what.
So lets give the big P credit for bringing these to market, though if they had it to do all over, I think they may market it differently....
That said. I think the Trek francise is definitely on the wrong track. Enterprise is just a plain embarrassment. I've gone from "can't wait to get these on DVD" to "who the hell cares".
And as for the latest edition of the movie franchise, well, I think whomever was invovled in that picture went out of the way to sabotage it. I have know idea what the creative element behind ST is thinking these days. The movie made a hell of alot more sense when you take into account the deleted scenes.
But I wasn't even given the chance to see this movie legally because it was not distributed in Norway. And had the information about its distribution been straight forward, I would have gone to England to see the premiere. The film was available prirated for quite some time and I resisted, until the 3 or 4 false statement about its release in Norway, and by then I said, who the hell cares.
And I purchased the film the day it was released. And enjoyed it :-)
God, i'm going in a million directions. Yes I have the complete TOS :-) Proudly displayed.

I plan on getting DS9 seasons 1-7 as soon as I get my new job, don't really want TNG, and only the last 4 seasons of Voyager (because of you know who
).
TOS better come out in sets that's the only way I'd buy it.

ST:TOS is high on my list of TV boxsets to get (right behind Lost In Space). I have no desire to own any of the other ST series. If the original series is released in an economical format (like thinkpaks and more than 2 episodes per disc) then I'll be more inclined to buy it.

I am a Star Trek whore. . . I admit it. I own all 7 seasons of TNG (my favorite), the first season of DS9 - th second is on the way and I will be getting the third and fourth seasons next month. I am about to start grabbing the movies and will also be starting to knock out TOS discs a bit at a time. I am not thrilled at how TOS was released, but hey, at least they are out there. I will definitely be getting them all eventually...

Most of you know I am 56 years old so when I say I was one of the original post card writers, to get our first shuttle to named Enterprise. I was amongst thousands that sent in our required 50, to plead that the shuttle be called Enterprise. You know we did it and the first shuttle was called Enterprise.
I have TOS in VHS I very rarily view them since I seen each 1 from 50 to 300 times.
Paying all the money for DVD, would be a waste as I view them in 'stretch' all the time filling the envelope. My favorites are City on the Edge of Forever, Shore Leave, Devil in the Dark, Mudds Women, and first episode with William Shatner replacing death by auto crash Jeffrey Hunter. Where No Man Has Gone Before with series guests Gary Lockwood of 2001 A Space Oddesey (Frank Pool) and Sally Kellerman.
If anyone of you remember my star trek convention name, I was Captain John Brook
you know what I looked like at the time. I wore the official starfleet Captains uniform and insignia. I was always armed with my phasor pistol on right side, not the flat phasor they also used in other episodes. This the time when I could walk
and Phila. and NYC were within reach by car.

Jeffrey Hunter was an actor, who played Christopher Pike, the Captain of the Enterprise in the original pilot, The Cage.
He had a good career, playing in John Ford's The Last Hurrah and The Searchers. He also played Jesus in King of Kings.

Ok, I have to ask, what does that bolded text mean? With the clarity of the DVDs, one of my favorite new activities has been to "spot the stunt man", and rank them in categories, most of which end up in "you got to be kidding". So just curious what you mean by that. Is Jeffrey Hunter a stunt man with a cult following?
