Unless you're talking about TOS, that is.

Yeah, it's a show. If they want to have two lead characters fall in "love" at the last second for no reason whatsoever (other than cheap setup for the finale) and to the anger of the actors themselves, so be it. It's cute. If the lead character wants to commit mass genocide of an alien race for giggles and hop back and forth through time changing the past to her liking because she woke up sad one morning, who am I to complain? I mean ... it's just a show.

I think the best part of Voyager was the unique villains they wrote into the show. That one group ... what were they call, again ... oh yeah, the Borg. They were cool. Hats off to the guy who came up with them. And that Q character ... he rocked. I think if TNG had cool characters like those, it could have been a much stronger show.

I also have to tip my hat to the cross-promotion between the show and ... professional wrestling. Never before in Trek history had a franchise been used to promote other programming on its airing network ( UPN), and I think this was a bold step. If only Picard could have fought Macho Man Randy Savage for control of the Enterprise, or if Sisko could have kicked it real with Moesha on the Promenade. What could have been.

Thanks, Voyager!

I agree it has a lot of character development but I feel the most important thing in ST is to explore space and encounter new species and culture. DS9 was like a stationary blob of a series.. how can you explore space from just a space station other than some of the roundabout/Defiant missions? Really stupid concept of Star Trek to come along.
Boring? A show that's all about a war against the First Ones in their idoligcial war of light and Shadows. Forming a resistance group against the corrupt government back home on Earth. Get caught in a war between two species determined to exterminate each other. Fighting against Psy-corp as they pull the strings from behind the scenes.

Oh, wait. . . that's Babylon 5. Never mind.

Odd. The only Trek series I actually do like is Voyager.

Yikes!

I wonder if UPN is/was a reason for the changes that are prevalent in Voyager/Enterprise. I mean, I know they were both "post-roddenberry" 'shows, but think about it... Star Trek TNG & DS9 were syndicated. They were not expected to keep a fledgling new network afloat. The show tried to appeal to a much broader audience because UPN was a new network. I mean, Voyager was not only the flaghip show for the network, but it was also the only show that kept the channel afloat at first. I don't know... just a thought.

das.. So what if old Admiral Janeway initially wanted to go back and change the past for her own needs.. didn't it turn out morally in the end when they did a crippling blow on the Borg? Of course, old Admiral Janeway would have been on trial if she ever got back but she sacrificed herself so it all worked out.

Generally, mass genocide of an alien race is wrong. However, the Borg is not any alien race that you can deal with, get along and be friendly to. For god sakes, you should know that by now. How can you reason with them at all without sacrificing the universe to them. It's all justified and I don't see why there's any reason to complain about this.

Star Trek is about exploring and discovery. I do not want to get into the little dilly dally about corruption and political intrigues and mayhems for an entire series. To me all that got too boring because it went on and on and on. BTW, Babylon 5 was a much better series than DS9. DS9 just copied the idea not a good thing to do.

If it's justified for us to take technology from the future to the past for the purposes of mass genocide, then why isn't it justified for the Borg to do the same thing to us in First Contact? It's hypocritical, holding the bad guy to a different standard than you hold for yourself. Star Trek has often leaned on the theme of not sinking to the level of your enemy; yet Janeway not only sank to their level, she did the exact same thing we villify them for doing.

And let's not get into all the Unimatrix 0 stuff they tried to sell us and then conveniently abandoned.

I haven't seen Nemesis yet, but I do know Janeway was made an Admiral and the best way to justify it is the Dilbert Principle: people are promoted to the position where they can do the least harm.

I have most, but not all. Some of the episodes are just plain bad, & I'm a Star Trek fanatic.

There is a rumor on this trek bbs thread that TOS seasons sets are being prepped for a R2 release in Sept '04. I don't know if it is true or not, but if it is, we in R1 could get them in '05 after Voyager's run.
