Off topic, but there's no way I would give my Star Wars letterboxed laserdiscs...even though I plan to buy the "Special Editions" on DVD (the laserdiscs are probably the only really good looking copies of the originals fans will ever see).
transfer them to DVD and sell them on ebay.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (barebones edition) - Just never got around to selling it
Terminator 2: Judgment Day UE - Essential part of the collection
Terminator 2:Judgment Day EE - Mostly for the commentary

Tomorrow Never Dies: SE (Silver Case) - It was the first DVD I bought so...
Tomorrow Never Dies: SE - Came with the Bond sets, and of course it matches the rest

Halloween: 25th Anniversary Edition - Will get it for the extras and especially the Carpenter commentary
Halloween: 2-disk LE - It's not going anywhere

The Hunt For Red October - Need to get rid of it
The Hunt For Red October: SE

actually, I'd want the criterion sotl for the better quality and the mgm for the extras, since the 2.0 actually has a bass track and is bit more creepier with a darker transfer with the criterion

Army of Darkness(LE 2-disc set & MGM Region 3 DC) - I got the MGM disc for its great transfer and 5.1 audio, but held onto the Anchor Bay set for the theatrical cut.

Terminator 2(Ultimate Edition & Extreme Edition) - The UE has all the extras and DTS audio, but the EE has a much better transfer and Cameron's commentary.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring(2-disc & 4-disc sets) - I like having both cuts of the film.

Dances With Wolves(Image 2-disc DTS & MGM DC) - Ditto.

Manhunter(LE 2-disc set & Restored DC) - Ditto ditto.

Star Trek II(original & 2-disc DC) - Ditto ditto ditto.

Hard Boiled(Criterion & Mei Ah) - The Criterion has all the extras, but the Mei Ah disc has an anamorphic transfer.

The Silence of the Lambs(Criterion & MGM) - The Criterion has the commentary, but the MGM disc is anamorphic with 5.1 audio.

Solaris - Ruscico - 5.1 audio, exclusive extras
Solaris - Criterion - better transfer, exclusive extras

Eyes Wide Shut - R1 - censored, came with box set
Eyes Wide Shut - R3 - uncensored

Andrei Rublev - Ruscico - director's cut
Andrei Rublev - Criterion - extended version

Army of Darkness LE - Anchor Bay - extras, two cuts of movies
Army of Darkness - R3 MGM - much better transfer, slightly longer cut

So far I've got 2 releases of:
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (silent) - Image & Kino
Nosferatu (silent) - Image & Kino
Dances with Wolves
Koyaanisqatsi - just didn't feel like parting with the IRE disc
Night and Fog - the Short #3 Authority disc has other films on it

If I see the Gattaca Superbit for cheap, I'll probably get that one too. And I think I read that Nosferatu may receive yet another release; with a full orchestral score...

I *might* be tempted to triple dip on that one.

I have a few LD's that are worthless once the DVD comes out so I keep them. But the DVD's, if I'm going to upgrade I get rid of the old ones as soon as the new ones are announced. Tommorrow I get rid of Christmas Story and Vegas Vacation, Already traded Christmas Vacation.

wow, i didnt know so many people wanted the theatrical cut of LotR: FotR... i thought the EE was sooooooo superior it wasnt even funny. seriously, on a 1-10 scale, i thought the theatrical cut was a 7.0 while the EE was more like a 9.0-9.5...

anyone out there actually think the theatrical version is the better of the 2? its all personal opinion... but i am shocked at how many peeps have/want both versions...

I've got 4 versions of Army of Darkness:
LE, bootleg, boomstick AND R3. ...and I'll pick up the other versions if I happen to find them cheap just to fill out a radiculous collection.

Others:
T2 UE & Extreme
Swingers
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (I had ordered a R3 DVD when the film was still in US theaters.)
Evil Dead 2 (Tin and same keepcase ed.)
Pearl Harbor
Hard Boiled (Criterion & Fox Lorber)
Contact (only because first one died!)

...and I WILL double up on the new ALIEN set.

Apocalypse Now/Redux
Man With The Golden Arm*

* Had the Passport Video (cough, cough) version, then I got the R2 Sanctuary Visual Entertainment release which is actually the R0 & NTSC. Not a double-dip really. Just my compulsion

Well I've double-dipped on lots of releases, but I've never kept the originals. Pulp Fiction, Swingers, Air Force One, Bad Boys, Alien collection (soon) are just a few of my re-buys. The only title I have more than one copy of is LoTR, but that doesn't really count because one is the Extended Edition (though the wife differs with me on that point).

I can only think of:

The Shining (1980)
For the American and international cut.

Never mind just the cast and crew interviews....doesn't the R3 actually contain chapter stops as well?....that must be reason to own it in itself

The first season of 24 on DVD:

Region 1: Plays on any friends' DVD player I bring it over to watch it on, plus the original version I've viewed hundreds of times.

Region 2: Better menus, added footage, cooler case. What's not to like?

With the possible exception of 24: Season Two, this is probably the only DVD I will have multiple copies of. Although there are a few titles that I'd like to double-dip on, I hate doing it and I just find the whole idea of owning more than one copy of the same movie to be a bit over-the-top.

Lord of the Rings 2-disc
Lord of the Rings 4-disc (from the boxset)

Stargate (flipper, free with player)
Stargate Ultimate Edition

X-Men
X-Men 1.5

I've double dipped on others, Dogma, Sixth Sense, etc., but I sold/traded the originals.

The only movie I have two versions of on DVD is EVIL DEAD.
I have the Elite SE as well as the BOTD.
And since both DVD's are signed by Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell as well as the complete cast of the movie I'm keeping both.

I had both the regular and DTS Saving Private Ryan but gave the non-DTS one to my sister when she got a DVD player. The only duplicate I have now is Ameilé. The R1 has all the extras, and the R2 has DTS. I also didn't have a region-free player when I bought the R1 disc.
