I'm upset by no insert as well. I like to think that I have SOMETHING that bootleggers don't have. I've got 423 dvd's and I already get enough ridicule from my roommate with a dvd burner who just gets the damn things off the internet....

I think they leave out inserts because most J6P's don't know how to read.
Anyways, someone in another thread said Disney, which owns Miramax, Touchstone, etc. isn't going to include inserts in their future releases. Which seems true, since "The Recruit" didn't have one, and it is a Touchstone release, I believe.
What studios should do is stop making really crappy movies, then they could save that money and make nice booklets for every dvd release.

I am disappointed b/c I would have liked an insert w/ original poster art on one side and the other side detailing which features were on which disc.
Also, what's up with the full frame teaser? I didn't watch the full length trailer b/c I was too ticked about the FS teaser trailer. Finally, does the menu editing each time a feature is selected bother anyone else? The flag waving w/ orchestral (sp?) sounds, then FADE TO BLACK AND SILENCE! What gives? Okay, enough complaining...now I need to get around to actually WATCHING the disc instead of complaining about it.

Besides the no insert situation, does anyone else hate the fact the last few Miramax 2-Discs sets (A Hard Day's Night, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown) have really cool packaging and this just has a regular case?

I like inserts. They simply make the inside look prettier. If it's something some work has been put into - even better. ESPECIALLY if it has original poster art, with no quotes or billed cast... which I then slip in over the outside cover! Saves me a visit do DVD Covers forum!
But killing inserts... in the words of Arcade, that's one of the "wors't" ideas I've heard lately...

Am I the only one who got an insert with Gangs of New York?
...well, it's a blank piece of white paper, but it was inserted in the left inside. Seriously, inserts(mostly just chapter listings) mean little to me unless they are of the Criterion variety. I'm reading the Hiroshima Mon Amour booklet right now. These types of material are definitely welcome and add much to one's understanding and appreciation for a film.

I like inserts, even if it is just a chapter listing. Sometimes, even the one leaf inserts are great in that the director or writer actually says something about the film in it. Also, for those who say it's a waste of space.....it's paper thin!? What space? :P

Call me weird, but I always like seeing inserts with my dvd's. Without them, they feel like cheap bootlegs or incomplete copies. I don't see how studios don't use their inserts in more productive ways, like listing the cast and crew, or some production notes. MGM's booklets come to mind. Seeing a dvd case with tabs that are holding nothing feels wrong. Especially for a movie like GONY. I can see some direct-to-video release skipping an insert, but not a major motion picture.

Adaptation didn't come with an insert. Granted, it was a translucent, but still, it also felt weird to me, too.
Anyway, someone got a link for those alt DVD covers I've heard mentioned from time to time?? Thanks.

I'd rather have DTS than an insert though

"Adaptation didn't come with an insert. Granted, it was a translucent, but still, it also felt weird to me, too."
Mine did. It was a memo from I think the director who asked Columbia to order DVD cases without the insert tabs since he didn't need one. Pretty funny.
I wonder how many DVD's have been returned due to people thinking they didn't get an insert. I know I was close to returning my GONY when I saw there was no insert.

This DVD had a booklet they were so proud of, they listed it as one of the contents on the back of the box and included it in the pic of contents.
I'm all for booklets. The more info the better. No booklet=Sucky
