Gangs of New York - no insert?
Just picked up Gangs of NY at Best Buy, opened up the case, and the first thing I noticed was that there was no insert booklet/sheet on the left side where it should be. The case is even made to hold one.
Did I get a bad copy or do they just not come with one?

Here is the current thread. I asked Static Cling to make it a stickie, but he didn't respond?

This is probably the first MAJOR title that I can see that didn't have an insert.
Oh boy, now people will reply that "______" is a major title...
Still, it's a bad trend that I hope is reversed.
Pretty soon DVDs will start coming in cardboard sleeves... oh wait, they DO...
It's just sad to me to see the quality of my beloved format start to go down the drain. Is this the first BVHV title to arrive without an insert?

i could care less- laserdisc, vhs normally didn't come with inserts- why should dvd,
Save the trees, and get rid of inserts

I don't really care either way. As long as they include the disc.

I agree about the waste of space for the majority of them. Most of them just reprint the cover art and list the chapters. Big whoop-dee-do. You get a list of the chapters in the CHAPTER SEARCH option on the DVD if you need help finding a scene, so what use is it on an insert? The only inserts worth while are collectible books. Other than that, they can take them or leave them, I don't care.

Well, if the studios want to eliminate the insert, then they should print the chapter listing on the back cover. Sure I could go to the menu on the disc, but now since everything has to be cute and animated for J6P, I usually have to wait for the annoying transition sequence that occurs everytime you select an option or the next "page" of chapter listings. I'd rather just do a quick glance at something printed.

If I go through the menu, I'll probably have to slog through 5 screens, complete with annoying menu graphics, just to get there.
(Maybe I'm just too used to laserdiscs, but I much prefer to read the chapters on a page and use direct access. I'm not a fan of menu-based chapters.)

If they did all DVD packaging like the Futurama set, I think they might be able to please everyone.
The thin, clear cases allow the cover to double as the insert. Presto!

I thought "Gangs of New York" was one of the wors't films of last year. Since I wont let that DVD anywhere near my house, (Yes that means my neighbors can not have it either.) the insert thing is no problem at all.

Um, how much is Gangs of New York? Do you really think it's cheaper? Booklets cost only a few cents to produce. I'd rather pay a few extra cents (which would wash out by the time the discs hit retail anyway, since no store is going to charge $20.14 rather than $19.99 for a disc) and have a nice booklet.
Personally, I HATE HATE HATE on-disc text features. Usually they're far too small to read, or on patterned backgrounds that make it hard to read. And in the case of the few discs that have EXTENSIVE text features, like Robocop: CC, there's no way to save your place. You'd have to skip forward and forward and forward...
I'd MUCH rather have that info in a booklet that I can read on the toilet.
