I love to see stuff like this.

Not all parents are going to know what the Animatrix is, and it's unrated as far as I know so they can't just look at the rating like they normally due with videos.

They could fairly easily mistake it for a typical superhero cartoon and think nothing of buying it for their 8 year old or whatever. Now they can read that, and see that it ties in with an R-rated movie and is designed with that audience in mind, and thus wouldn't likely be appropriate for their child.

Unless you are a parent, why should you care? Instead of obsessing over a warning in small print on the back of the case, pop in the DVD and enjoy!

OMG, how dare they ? How dare they ruin my animatrix DVD with a warning on the case !!! Those inconsiderate jerks ! Let's blame this on the parents !!! yeah !! How stupid do they have to be to put a parental warning on a DVD that contains material that is not rated ? I mean that's about as dumb as you can get ! What a stupid idea !!! What kind of idiot parent reads the back of a DVD to find out what it is about and if the material is suitable for their children !!!

I guess my only complaint...hell, it's not really a complaint...its just a bit more wordy than your average warning. I'm used to PARENTAL ADVISORY: EXPLICIT CONTENT as my warning as opposed to the miniature novel written on it. Then I found it a bit redundant to show up on the screen when I popped in the DVD... perhaps just the PARENTAL ADVISORY thingy on the box, and then the more detailed warning on the DVD itself? I dunno...

As long as it doesn't censor what I wanna see, go ahead and warn all ya want.

Does it have to be an impulse buy? Take 5 minutes and look it up online find out what it is about and if it is suitable for kids. Same goes for anything...

...well I didn't know a game called Grand Theft Auto was so violent...

Agreed. &nbsp This DVD is not intended for kids. &nbsp I think the warning is justified.

Well, why would you buy your kids something based on an R rated film? still, I think the warning is fine because there isn't a rating on it. I'd have been more mad if they watered it down to get a lower rating, even if it is based on an R rated movie (like the game was.)

I think that instead of writing that huge messy warning on the back of the case, they should have just rated it R.

The "R" rating is a copyright of the MPAA. To slap the rating on the DVD without exhibition would be infringement.

Isn't there a PG-13 rating on the back cover of the Animatrix? I'll have to check my copy if no one knows.

Parents should try to screen the "cartoons" their children watch if it appears to be of questionable content (meaning, if you think it might be, it probably is), it's part of being a parent.

Partly due toa big bruhaha over the fact that there are action figures for r rated movies and m rated video games, some parents would rather censor the world then actually do some parenting but i digress
How exactly is this censorship?
Once again, where's Jackskeleton when you need him?

Nope. As mentioned before the MPAA ratings (except X) are copyrighted, and can only be used if the MPAA has actually been paid to rate the film, which is spendy. Planned straight to DVD/video release like this are rarely rated because of this. At most you'll usually see an age warning or parental warning (like you see here.)

The scan from the 1st page clearly shows 'not rated'

The only short that was rated is Final Flight, which was PG-13, since it aired in front of Dreamcatcher.

As for the warning, i could care less. If it helps parents make a decision on buying it, then great.

Come on. This warning is to help parents when their kid picks it up off the shelf in Wal-mart and is begging them to buy it for them. Sure if the kid just asks for it sometime, they can take a few minutes and look it up, but the warning helps parents make an informed decision on the spot.

The GTA games have the "M-rating 17+" logo right on the front of the case with an explanation on the back of why the game got the rating elsewhere (i.e. "Graphic Violence, Blood, Sexuality" etc.).

At any rate, I don't see why anyone would care about this. Who cares if there's a warning on the back? How does that affect your enjoyment of the DVD?

Oops. I forgot this is DVD talk and many here are so anal they can't enjoy a movie if they don't like the cover art.

The warning's a good thing; part of being a responsible parent would include reading the box before you got it. Irresponsible parents would buy it if it was NC17, and had pictures of blowing-up heads on the cover (as long as there was no nudity shown).

As far as advisories in general, overall, I like the fact that now they tell you the reason why things are rated as they are (although some of them are really stupid). It seems much more informative than just giving a rating with no explanation, and allows parents to make a fairly informed decision before actually watching something.

The warning is fine, besides a lot of the stuff in Animatrix is quite disturbing (Kid's Story and 2nd Renaissance in particular).

Well... I do not mind the warning... but come on here... it's clearly based on THE MATRIX, an R rated movie... I don't think a responsible parent is going to buy their kid this...

Alright, I watched up to the one with the Cat. With the exception of the guy and his brains coming out, and the brief nudity in "the second rennasonce", I thought most of this was tame. Now I highly enjoyed this program, its just that the violence isn't that bad.

Just because it is "mild" to you doesn't mean it will be to someone else. They are covering themselves, I'd love to see you put something out for sale in the public and get your a** sued to pieces just because you didn't have 1 sentence on your product. Sure ... you might win in court but have fun paying the lawyers.
