EDIT; I didn't check out Littlefuzzy's link to Snopes before posting that. I never realized there was one specific spire in question, and just thought the hubub was over the general phallacity (no clue if that's a real word or not
) of the whole castle, but sure enough, as noted in the detail shot from Snopes that Littlefuzzy linked to, there's one spire that, uh, stands out above the rest.

And speaking of the first five minutes, what about the silohette shot of the satanic statue in the desert? That would be pretty scary to a kid I would imagine. I think, if this story has a shred of truth, the kids were like, "cool, instead of stupid trendy Harry Pooter, we get to watch this classic horror film we've heard so much about" and then it just got to be too much for them. Maybe not so much the five year old, but little girls certainly can easily get into drama. The big sister probably could identify with Regan and didn't say anything because she was into it. Then when the schitt hit the fan, she was like "okay, I better tell someone".
Than again, this is probably all hogwash anyway.
And sorry, I can't remember names and places right now. I think the scene I reference was in Iraq? Don't even ask me to remember the demons name though. I know, bad horror film fan.

Well at that age, little things can make you scary.
When I was 6, I remember watching Michael Jackson's Thriller Video and getting nightmares, also with original Terminator - I don't remember how I could've watched R-rated movie when I was 6, but that last part scared me. Those scenes are like comical now, but at that age lot of thing is scary. And maybe its more so because Im Catholic, but Exorcist is MY scariest movie ever.

Hey, I saw JAWS when I was little and I don't take baths to this day. Only showers. And no, Psycho didn't scare me.

Oh come on--how many of you guys have kids? It's pretty normal, imo, to have a child watch a movie so you can take a bath or shower, especially if an older child is home to keep an eye on her. It's odd that it got so far into the movie before anyone noticed, but maybe the kid was watching it off in a bedroom.
I have a 5 year old, and I would be horrified if he saw parts of The Exorcist. I won't let him watch Chamber of Secrets either (he wants too, but he's a big chicken and we'd be regretting it for months if I gave in). I think the guy won't get rich, but he'll win something.

Free psychotherapy for the rest of the kid's life? Lol.
Seriously, I worked at the Boys and Girls club for years, and it always shocked me some of the movies parents would let their kids see. It's one thing when they see it on video at a friends house (you can only control so much), but when they take their 8yr olds to R-rated horror flicks, I wonder what they're thinking?

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
The eleven year old came into the bathroom to tell the father that the movie wasn't Harry Potter?
Sounds more like the "bathtub of secrets" to me.

I have to second darqleo's sentiments. And in fact I can one up the girl in the story, I saw the Exorcist when I was about 2 and a half years old, and I didn't puss out after 5 minutes of possesion, I saw the whole thing! And I still remember it! hehehe And I saw Jaws when I was about 4...twice!!! And One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest...and my mom said for a 4 year old, I got most of the plot, and I laughed at the right parts, and knew when not to.
Let me explain, my parents liked going to the movies, but they didn't like leaving me with babysitters, so their solution was to go to the drive-in, with me in the backseat dressed in my pajamas, and equiped with my sleeping bag in hopes that I would fall asleep, and they could enjoy the movies NOT meant for a kid. Being a movie-fan-in-training, there was no way in hell I was going to sleep and missing the feature! I would crawl up in the front seat, where I could get a better view.
And before you knock my parents, save it. I enjoyed myself and it spawned a life long love of movies. Besides, remember this was the early 1970s, and if you didn't see a movie in the theater, you were basically screwed...no HBO, no pay-per-view, no VHS, and certainly no DVD. I too turned out fine...mostly.
