I know how much people love this film, so I beg your pardon if this post is totally offensive.
In my experience, you are too old to think this is the most amazing film ever if you've already seen Alice in Wonderland. Spirited Away is damn pretty to look at, but not capable of standing on its own two feet - much like the character of the Queen of Heart's - or, pardon me, Yubaba's - baby.
I'm not opposed to animated films, but it's tremendously difficult to impress me. Waking Life did. But Spirited Away seemed to be mostly a pleasant diversion, slightly more interesting and less cloying than Mulan or something.
My biggest criticism of Spirited Away is that it's a good story that's been told much better several times before. It's enjoyable, not amazing. The music is good, and better than most cartoon-movies, but far from magnificent.
(And because I seldom write or think about animated movies, let me get this off my chest - Disney committed more than one act of wanton sacrilege by defiling the brilliance and astonishing achievement of 1961's 101 Dalmations with it's horrific live action version and insipid fake sequels. Shame on you, Disney. You might as well remove the clapping for Tinkerbelle... -Oh.)
Edit: By the way, I'm 26.
Sgagay.

And docF94, in the category of each to their own, I was bored nearly to tears by Waking Life.
On the other hand, Spirited Away (and I have seen Alice in Wonderland and read the book as well) wowed me completely.

Hey man - it's a great flick... I think some naysayers missed the philosophical aspects of the film... They were probably convinced it was a repeat and tuned out before they made a judgement.
23 or not, GOOD FILM!

I wasn't exactly sure where to ask this, but since this is the thread most recently posted to regarding this flick, I guess this should do fine:
Will Spirited Away (and the other flicks of the 3 pack and Princess Mononoke) be available with both dubbing and original language audio tracks?
Oh yeah, and is that stupid "red tint" problem solved for this as well?

Dark Side of The Rainbow + Alice in Wonderland = Spirited Away it is.
I'm 20, I loved it, will own it today (along with Family Guy.)

how bout this question.... i didnt think princess monokoe was anything special... is this much better than that?
That said, I love Spirited Away, as close to flawless as anything I've seen (personally, I just really love the flick.) - The animation isn't quite Disney quality, but the artwork is worlds more imaginative and the world far more enthralling than anything Disney has ever done.
Anyway, opinion seems to vary greatly. Spirited Away is just a damn cool movie.

#1 - I do not like anime... I don't like the stuff they show on the 'toon network and I don't like the OVA or original language ones either.
#2 - I got Spirited Away R2 NTSC as a trade because... actually for no coherent reason (temporary use of mind-altering medication had me trading for all sorts of stuff I wouldn't normally get)
#3 - After three weeks of sitting on it. I put it in to see the quality of the transfer
#4 - After 15 minutes, this movies was so insane... I was glued to the set. I even think I let a pot of water boil over since I was so in to it.
#5 - I've viewed this movie at least three times, and can't recommend it highly enough to other people that don't like anime either.
#6 - Also, I still don't have any urge to get any more such as Kiki's Delivery Service etc...
#7 - I still cannot convince the DVD store down the street to carry it. Oh well.
#8 - 9.25 out of 10!!
#9 - I did not notice any "red tint"

just curuis, should i buy this as a blind buy or is it more for the younger teenagers? I've heard good things about it so just wondering. thanks
Hell, I recently bought Joseph: King of Dreams (kinda sucked) and Spirit of Cinnamon or whatever that title was, and it was pretty good. I'm over 28 years-old.

Your only too old when you say you're too old.
This being the biggest all-time grossing movie to date here in Japan shows that it had quite a wide audience. And especially living in a country where grown salary men read "comics" on the trains to work everyday I can definately vouch that if you enjoy the movie or story, it really doesn't matter what medium it's delivered in.
BTW..we watched the movie again last weekend and my wife was amazed that people in other countries would be so into the movie. Great to see it's transcending borders and all age groups.

If you get it and like it, don't forget to go back and pick up Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky . Both by the same director and while maybe not as philosophical as SA, they're both excellent.

I didn't really think Princess Mononoke was that good, but Spirited Away is much better.
It did win the Academy Award Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film over Ice Age, Lilo&Stitch, Spirit (Stallion of the Cimarron), and Treasure Planet. The latter three were not all that good anyway, but Ice Age was pretty good competition.
Spirited Away is a good film; pick it up if you dare!

Mummy, I don't want to go to school today !!!!!
Anyway, joking aside, I am gonna be 32 this year and I regularly buy animated DVDs (Last week I got the Miyazaki 3 pack and family guy). Personally I don't think you can ever be too old to enjoy Spirited Away.
