I can't wait for the entended version. I'm sure the extra 43 minutes will improve the overall movie. In addition, the transfer will surely be better than the theatrical version once again.

I like owning both. So I'll be picking up both the theatrical and the EE. With the rebate, I ended up getting FOTR EE for under $20 anyway so it's not a huge expense. $35 for both the theatrical and the EE is more than reasonable to me.

Get the R2 regular Japanese edition so the wife can watch it and then get the EE R1 with (hopefully) whatever cool book ends they'll have.

Let's hope New Line puts the movie on one disc this time instead of 2, I mean only a fool needs a break during a movie, no matter how long.

Great news indeed, I'll be picking up both versions, the 2 Disc version if for nothign more than the extras not on the EE.

I dont' believe it was put on two discs because people would need a break. There's quite a few different commentaries, and probably couldn't fit everything on one disc.

[offtopic]DTS isn't a big deal to me. It really doesn't sound much better than DD to me on my system. That said, I do always listen to the DTS track over DD when it's available, but it's far from a selling point to me.[/offtopic]

I felt all the stuff with Faramir/Frodo/Sam was rushed - so 43 more minutes probably will allow time to fill that in too.
November is a while, but ok!

For those who have DVD changers...
...You might as well block off a whole day to watch the Extended Editions of all three Lord of the Rings movies.
I've heard the theatrical cut of The Return of the King will be 3.5 hours long; I can imagine the Extended Edition of RoTK released in November 2004 as being at least 4 hours 15 minutes long!

At least with these releases we KNOW ahead of time that there are going to be 2 releases. So you have the option of waiting. Too bad the EE isn't released first, but you know that would never happen. Talk about a loss in sales on the second release.

I'll definatly buy both versions of this movie.
The extras on the first release are totally different then the ones on the second release.. that in itself is good enough for me.
and who the hell wants to wait 3 more months then they have to to watch the movie again.

I read in either Total DVD or DVD Review (two UK dvd mags) that the Expanded Edition of Two Towers will have more footage reinstated for the Helm's Deep Battle (again possibly pushing the film closer to an R-rating). The article also stated more scenes of Treebeard and Gollum (the Smeagol/Deagol
seen in the 'making of' book - its still debateable that Jackson might move this to 'Return of the King')

"Rumors in early 2003 have it that the first cut is six hours long because of the amount of material from Tolkien's original story that remains to be covered."

If this is true, comparing the rough cut estimates to the actual runtimes of the EE of the first two films, I'd say we should expect something closer to 5+ hours for the ROTK EE.
