These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

Re: "Cut and Run" Reviews/Discussion - 2023 Horror Challenge

This was my first time watching this. Aside from some more extreme scenes, this really felt more like an action film, though you can certainly see it's a cousin of Cannibal Holocaust. I imagine if I didn't watch the uncut version, it would have felt a lot more like a straight-up action film.

Overall, this wasn't too bad. It kept me watching, though it felt like very much a product of its time. I figured Berryman would have a bigger role given his prominence on posters. He didn't do much. The tribe staking the women's legs down before having their way with them was a new one for me and especially cruel.

I didn't care for this one at all. #1...where was the horror? As clckworang said, this was more action/adventure with very few horror elements. I can only imagine it gets the horror tag because Ruggero Deodato is the director. Otherwise, this is just a boring, by the numbers Miami Vice meets The Emerald Forest meets a really bad 70's cannibals/scary natives film. This movie doesn't come close to being as interesting as Cannibal Holocaust and is a large step down from that Deodato film in my opinion.

Bland. My rating: * out of *****

Prime Michael Berryman; even if he seemed out of place among the cannibals. The opening scene was epic, I enjoyed the jumping out of the water stuff and the ending with the swirling helicopter was pretty kinetic - It felt like they had a higher budget.
The 'life is cheap' stuff was so unfun and grim it made me feel a little down - still for a Ruggero Deodato film it was not as dark as some others. Overall I'm not a big Deodato fan but he does have a way of trying to make things feel literal and in your face.
I enjoyed the jungle setting and the action elements, even docudrama journalism aspect. I appreciated it's attempt to parallel the horror of the jungle or the drug cult with the real world of urban crime and universal human nature even if it often felt like a stretch.

I watched this last night. I'm with Spiderbite. Generic action, little to no horror, boring af. Buddy Lembeck is not an action hero, lol.
