These "October Horror Movie Challenge" threads are for the discussion of the films in the 31 FILM SUBSET list.

The plan is for everyone to watch this film on the October day in the thread title, and to start discussing it the morning of the following day.
You may start discussion early if you want, but the preferred plan is for this to be as much of a group exercise as possible, with all of us viewing it "together" and discussing after.

Of course, you are totally encouraged to participate in these threads even if you haven't watched the movie on the designated day.
Even if you haven't watched it in years, or are not participating in the Horror Challenge, please feel free to chime in.

Spoiler tags aren't always used in here, so if you have yet to see the film BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

Chad's posting these elsewhere but I figure a little redundancy won't hurt.

I'm going to post browser links here, though if you're using a Roku or similar device, or an iPad or Android app, you'll be searching Prime or AsianCrush, etc... with the movie title.

The Seventh Curse - AsianCrush - English dub

The Seventh Curse - Prime The Seventh Curse - Prime
- Mandarin w/English subs

The Seventh Curse - Midnight Pulp - English dub

This list is accurate as of 09/24/2019. I'll confirm the links again on October 1st.

The AsianCrush, Prime and Midnight Pulp links are still valid. We should be good to go for Sunday.

Whoa what the hell just happened!? All of a sudden this babylike demon thing just flew over and tore a man up. Major turn of events lol.

This movie defies any explanation I would try to give it, but I enjoyed it for the nonstop, batshit crazy, unexplainable mess that it is... seriously, one minute they're battling baby demons in the jungle and the next they're kung fu fighting all around Thailand. I've always been a Chow Yun-Fat and Maggie Cheung fan, so despite the questionable special effects and nonsensical story, I had a blast watching this...

I was really glad to see Seventh Curse because this era of foreign cinema interests me (a lot of even questionable domestic 80s films are considered classics but it doesn't seem like imports get much attention). I didn't enjoy the fantasy adventure elements of Seventh Curse as much but the practical special effects and kung fu are great. I loved the skeleton blue eyes creature and the monster climax; the monster standoff is gold. I wish the plot had been more structured. The hostage situation at the start is a good cold open but seemed oddly irrelevent to a story really about 'Worm' cults; that sort of stuff shouldn't need much filler. We really needed a bit more of the odd baby creature and of that imagery like the bleeding decapitated monk statue before the end better sprinkled throughout.

I was worried after the first few minutes, but this turned into a fun romp!

Re: "The Seventh Curse" Reviews/Discussion - 2019 Horror Challenge

Based on Black Magic (1975), which I believe we watched last year, I've been buying all of the Asian/Kung-fu offerings 88 films has been putting out. I'm glad The Seventh Curse was our foray into Asian classic horror. This one takes the cake for bat-sh*& crazy entry of the year. A bomb toting doctor who reworks the Hippocratic oath to: 'do plenty of harm to hostage takers with a kaboom'. Our intrepid reporter sneaking into the hostage-takers lair dressed as a nurse, only to pick up a gun and jump into the blood and guts carnage. This is just the first ten minutes, and we haven't' even met the gut chomping 'baby' demon, who is unleashed when someone questions the soprano voiced 'head sorcerer'.

Best subset pick of the challenge. Wow, demon babies, alien like lizards, killer skeletons and martial arts. This film has it all.
