Re: What is the best Horror DVD to watch?

Show her Cannibal Holocaust and convince her the ending is real before she watches.

Another one is 28 Days Later. My girlfriend used to watch horror movies with me, but it was one of those "I'll watch your shitty Disney movie if you watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre" kind of things. But after seeing this she had nightmares for weeks and hasn't watched a horror flick with me in over 3 years. She said the way it was shot made it seem more real than any movie she'd ever seen, which scared the living hell out of her.

It's awesome because since she stopped watching horror I haven't had to suffer through any more Sisterhood of the Lame Ass Pants type flicks.

If 28 Days Later scared her, I wonder what the Dawn of the Dead remake would do to her

Yeah, this questions needs to be answered first before anyone can make any appropriate recommendations. There are so many styles of Horror Films that knowing which types do and don't scare her is crucial.

Look High Tension is a fantastic ride. It has times of just being real creepy and times of all out blood and gore. Also Inside had some pretty tense moments and gallons of blood but well constructed. FWIW the dubed version of High Tension is one of the best quality dubs I'ver heard. Alll the original actors took part in the dub so It sounds good.

Someone mentioned the girl next door. Don't its pretty bad and does not deliver the goods.

Watch the new Alexandre Aja horror movie "Mirrors" in the middle of the night by yourself. It frightened the hell out of me, especially the first half hour or so.

Gotta say, set and setting improves all horror movies!

Watched the original Ringu, on a duped VHS, mind you, all alone in a pitch-black house (with some beer) while the wife was in Tokyo. Scared the crap out of me - like almost covered my face scared ...

You hear that kids? No laptops while you're watching a movie!

Agree these days it sucks watching a movie with anyone but yourself. You go to a theater and people are always talking to eachother or texting on their cellphones. And by the way this is coming from a 18 year old, but I hate people interupting my movies expecially horror films. Not only in theaters either, when I goes to watch a movie with a few friends you'll have one listening to their IPod and another texting someone, it just doesn't have the same feel when your watching a horror movie in that setting and I get bored so half the time I'll just take out my PSP or something and watch the movie by myself later that night.

I will third this recommendation. Picked this up last week. Not a "jumpy" type of horror movie, but a very tense, uncomfortable watch. Great horror.

I also like the remake of The Hills Have Eyes, by Aja. Great sense of hopelessness watching that movie.

Still one of my favorites ... the musical score is perfect for that film. Plus - Pamela Franklin

I would recommend A Nightmare On Elm Street:Part 3. the part where freddy takes out the guys limbs is creepy.

Audition
Nightmare on Elm Street
The Thing

Would be my first choices, Obviously The Thing has one of the best unexpected jump scares of all time so I would put that above everything else.

Re: What is the best Horror DVD to watch?

just saw "Eden Lake". excellent little realistic horror movie. very tense and brutal. my only gripe is that the lead actress played the would-be heroine as if she was just not thinking.

i know under the circumstances that maybe reasonable, but she just kept doing things that i thought were not smart and to meek for what would be her end result.

Re: What is the best Horror DVD to watch?

Dog Soldiers is a great British horror... it's got well timed scares and some good laughs too.... done by the same director as the descent although quite different it's still very good
