Request: Laserdisc Suggestions

Mainly driven by my disappointment that there won't be a Scorsese commentary on the new Taxi Driver SE, I decided to take the plunge and pick up an LD player on the cheap. It's an Pioneer LD-V2200; nothing too fancy, but good enough for my needs.

Here's what I'm planning on picking up:
Taxi Driver w/ commentary by Scorsese and Schrader
Burn Witch Burn w/ commentary by Richard Matheson
King Kong w/ commentary by Ron Haver

Any suggestions for LDs that have features (particularly commentaries) that aren't likely to ever see a DVD release will be greatly appreciated!

The original, untarnished Star Wars Trilogy. Get the THX widescreen versions, either singly or in the boxed set (best version), if you can find it. Avoid the Special Editions, as those are the "updated" version.

Get the Criterion disc of The Graduate. One of the best commentaries I've ever listened to.

Weren't those from the same source as for the most recent DVD? Or are you referring to a different version?

While you're on Hogan movies, get No Holds Barred, also.

Not sure which version you are referring to... the recent DVD was based on the Special Edition + more modifications, making it a "Special-er" edition. Apparently the 2nd release DVDs had the original (unmodified) as extras, but they aren't anamorphic, etc. So, I guess you're right, they're the same. The laserdisc might look better?

Thanks for the advice all, much appreciated! I"ve already picked up Burn Witch Burn! and Kong, so here's my shopping list for the next few months:

Criterion SE Bonds
Crash
Fischer King
Godfather Trilogy 1908-1981

The "extras" discs of the newest SW DVD releases are in fact transfers from the old LDs. I already picked those releases up on the cheap at Costco, so I'm not in need of the laserdiscs.
