Its been way to long since ive bought a DVD. Im a history buff so im looking some movies that resemble history the most. Im looking for some good WWII movies. I want ones like Schindlers list and Grey Zone that show more of the affect on the victims then ones that only show the army's fighting.

Also recommend:
Europa Europa
Zwartboek (Black Book) (this one just came out last year, so it probably isn't on DVD yet - watch for it when it is, though)

Problem is there isn't a single decent English-friendly release of this film. I can not recommend that you spend money on it.

I'd recommend "The Winter War", otherwise known as "Talvisota", which covers the Soviet invasion of Finland of 1939-40. The PAL version is supposedly better (and uncut), if you have a region free player. One of the more realistic war movies I have seen.

Sahara - Starring Humphrey Bogart. A great film made the same year as Casablanca in which he starred as a Tank commander lost behind German enemy lines. A terrific story that holds up well even today. Hope you have a chance to see and enjoy it sometime. It occasionally runs on Turner Classic Movies.

For the blackest of black comedy, try Catch-22. The movie is certainly uneven but numerous scenes are terrific IMO. Also features a great commentary with Steven Soderbergh and Mike Nichols.
