A different perspective...

Nah, you're way off. The Replacements and The Mighty Ducks were WAY better than this piece of garbage.

"Something for everyone"???

Sure, if you're looking for the most contrived, most trite, most manipulative film that been released in quite a while. I REALY love the part where Keanu tries to get "emotional" when presented with a sad situation that relates to one of the kids...

Spoiler:
The death/funeral scene

Yeah, that was some top-notch acting there! It was akin to Adam Sandler getting "emotional" in Big Daddy when child services took Julian away.

The DVD itself was pretty bad too. Color rendition and sharpness were very good, but the audio was just horrible. There were at least 10 times where I had to back it up and crank the volume just to make out what was being said. On a disk that's 99.99% dialogue, you'd think they would have done a better job making sure you could actually hear the actors. Plus, the extras are a joke. A silly featurette, an even sillier music video, and a series of 5 second clips where the first time actors show us why they'll probably never act again...they're bad, real bad! I found the commentary to be completely unmotivated and boring (and I'm someone that really enjoys commentaries).

I really regret renting this disk, but at least I can be relieved that I didn't buy it.

I didn't think The Mighty Ducks was all that great, but the premise (the lead character being ordered/forced to coach), the acting, and the humor were all far better than what's offered in Hardball.

2 BIG for Hardball. Not even worth a rental.

Also worth noting, there are a few things in Hardball that make it a really bad choice for a family film. If you want to know exactly what I'm talking about, take a look at the bottom third of this review:

Did you watch the same movie? The audio sounded great and it contains alot more music than your average film, so I wouldn't say that it was 99% dialogue. You might want to tweek your system......

Apparently, this film has now taken in over $50 million in rentals, as well as the $40 million
plus it took theatrically. Bearing in mind the films small-ish budget and small publicity
campaign, Paramount must be raking it in on this title (and that's without homevideo sales and
overseas figures!).
