Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Ginger Snaps

DVD Talk Reviewer Emeritus
I just watched "Killer Klowns" yesterday. Its cornball quotient is incredibly high, so be prepared for lame humor and bad acting, all in line with typical B-grade horror flicks. But it's rated PG-13, so don't expect any great gore or gratuitous nudity. The plot is similar to that of "The Blob," but this time the aliens are a bunch of hideous clown creatures--with admittedly great costumes and makeup. In fact, the look of these clowns is the best part of the movie--they're disturbing, right out of kids' nightmares. This is a movie best watched with a group of friends that have all tossed back a few beers.
"Ginger Snaps" is a much more effective horror flick, about two teenage sisters struggling with the onset of puberty and lycanthropy. The werewolf myth is used as a metaphor for "the curse." This movie has some great dark humor, terrific acting all around, and some pretty good makeup effects (although the filmmakers dwell on the creature too much at the end). I highly recommend this film, but if you want to buy/rent the DVD, make sure you get ahold of the Canadian DVD, which contains a widescreen transfer and a bunch of supplements (unlike the US edition).

DVD Talk Platinum Edition
I've seen very few B-movies and horror is my least favorite genre, but I picked up Killer Klowns on a whim after reading all the glowing praise for the film. Much like Jason said, the film is incredibily cheesy and the acting is barely there, but it is quite funny. I had a good time with it, it isn't that expensive, and has quite a few extras. If you're interested, give it a try.

Go to www.hmv.ca and you can get the Canadian DVD of Ginger Snaps.
It's absolutely the version to get. Don't support Artisan's fullscreen releases. These are very much cult films (Ginger Snaps and Sleepless) with a very specific audience so releasing them in a version that alienates their core viewers is inexcusable.
