Perhaps this will help you make up your mind: the Sony 2100 remote for $99.

Go here: www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=sonrmav2100&SVBName=31

In response to touchdown saying he heard about people putting their address book on the remote, DID ANYONE EVER NOTICE HOW MUCH THESE TOUCH SCREEN REMOTES RESEMBLE PALM PILOTS etc, except for a few more buttons? I just recently read a magazine article about a palm pilot being used as a remote! I would like to find out more about this being that you can pick up a palm m100 or 3e for $150

Grid...

I have a PalmPilot, actually. The program you are thinking about is called OmniRemote (it was the first one and is the program that is most used today). It is a great program that costs $10 or so. If you already have a Palm, it will cost far less then ait would to get a Philips Pronto or a Sony-2100!

There's one minor quibble. The built in infrared on the Palm is great if you are about 5 feet or closer to the TV screen. Otherwise, it just isn't strong enough to send out the signal to your devices. There is a solution for that though! The makers of OmniRemote (Pacific Neotek) sell an add-on IR beamer that is attached to the serial connection at the base of your PalmPilot. It costs $30, and it sends IR signals much further! THey also have the IR hardware for Palm Vs and Handsprings!

Take a look at it. Go to pacificneotek.com for more information about the hardware, and download a free trial of the software here.

I operate on this combo, and I love it!

Hope this helps!

I am using a Palm IIIxe and Omniremote. The range is fantastic! The newer Palms have stronger IR than older ones. I used a Palm V for awhile and the range was really pathetic. The Palm IIIxe has a much, much longer and wider range. Of course my entertainment center is about 5 to 7 feet from the couch, but the Palm Pilot is getting the job done and that is all that matters. I do not have the IR extender module, just using the internal IR. Thought I would pass on my opinion of the Omniremote on a Palm IIIxe if anyone is interested. I recently paid $0 at Amazon (thanks MCI, rebate and gift certs) for the Palm IIIxe, so only costed $20 for my remote and functionally does everything the Pronto can do. can't beat that price!

Since this thread has been revitalized, I might as well ask a question. I just purchased a oneforall cinema 7, and I love it, except that I cannot find a code to select "Video 4" on my 27" Wega. The other 3 "Video"s work fine, and oneforall wasn't exactly helpful in the matter. Has anyone out there overcome this problem?

Aghama-

I have a VVega also. Are you saying there are codes available to go directly to a video source (video1, video2, etc..)? Where would I find these codes? I have the Sony VL900 remote.

Does anyone else know if there is a code to go directly to the 16X9 enhanced mode?

Thanks in advance.
