except, as someone who has recommended the 606 many times in the past, i don't think it's the right recommendation here. no analog means no adding separate amps in the future. while he is keeping his speakers for now, he may upgrade in the future. the 663 allows him to add amps to his system and use the yamaha as a pre/pro in the future. you can't do that with the 606.

In my personal opinion I think most people would be fine with a current AVR and would only go with pre/pro if you were big(fussy) with music. I just recently added an EMO amp to my 3808,so just take it for what it's worth.

Yes you might be right. The one thing I would mention to is if memory serves me right the 606 uses Audyssey and the 663 doesn't. I like Audyssey but I have never tried what the 663 uses,so I can't give you my opinion on that.

The guts in the higher end are much in the higher end and will be able to drive more speakers. But they are overkill now.
The lower end is fine for what he has but at least the Yamaha allows him to add amps. With your receiver there were many more speakers you could drive effectively than with those lower end.

I have the Pioneer 91txh Had it for about a year. Absolutely kick ass. 99% of my play is home theater, but just that I noticed a distinct improvement over the Yamaha I had been using.
