I asked him about it and he was not concerned, he said if they do not have a CC on file they have nothing to charge. He also mentioned he has closed some of the accounts which he started on and now is applying for new accounts so they cant charge a closed account.

they cannot legally go back and charge you for something that your original receipt indicated as free. i suppose they could demand that you return the free product (even if opened) and if you don't they would charge you, but i don't even think that would be ok legally. you presumably ordered a certain movie with other movies free. if they choose not to ship you the movie you were supposed to pay for, they cannot retroactively charge you for the free movie...

BestBuy.com didn't charge me for some cds i ordered once. They sent me a bill about six months later. I never paid it and never heard from them again. That was about 5 or 6 years ago.

I'm not sure of the legality of this, but how about if they came back at us with:

"You must purchase a title to keep the 2 free. Your pay title was canceled, so you must pay for a different title. Either buy another $19.99 and up title or send us back your two free titles."

Seems fair.

Hmm, demand you return the free items or you'll be charged. This all sounds very familiar. Anyone want to ask Amazon how that one worked out?

Really though, this is Columbia House we're talking about. As many errors as they make we know they're not that on top of things over there. I mean, they haven't even bothered to remove the items from the site yet.

Last year, Amazon had a B1G1 box set sale the weekend before Christmas. There was a glitch in the code that allowed people to get both box sets free. Several people took advantage of this. One of the posters here notified Amazon, and Amazon contacted the people who had used the glitch, demanding that they pay full price for the box sets or return the merchandise. Hilarity ensued.

There are at least two gigantic threads in the archives about this incident, but I can't be arsed to look for them.

OH man I would be super interested in reading this thread. I love hilarity.

Edit!******

I found the thread: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=487954

It looks like initially to go the customer's favor. Even the CS guys were saying that since the reciepts said the dvd's were for free... they wouldn't be charged.

Although it'd pretty funny how in the end the last poster had a solution of going to Amazon.com's parking lot and smash all their car windows.

In the end Amazon only harrassed those who:
1. Had made casual orders on B1G1.
2. Did not get a representative to email them with something that absolved them of this.

The only lesson I could learn was to Exploit BIG or go home.

Has this ever happened to anyone...I applied and got accepted online so as soon as I got my membership number via e-mail, I logged in and placed my two fulfillment orders. I then received my enrollment shipment notification on 11/6, one of my fulfillment shipment notifications on 11/8, and my 2nd fulfillment shipment shipping notification on 11/9. So far, I have only received my 1st fulfillment order(11/8 e-mail) that arrived today 11/14. Does this mean my enrollment shipment got lost in the mail or something?

^It is possible that your enrollment package was lost or stolen. But Media Mail can be variable as to how long it takes to arrive.

If you call Columbia House they will usually tell you to wait four weeks before they will accept that the package is lost and they will send a new one.

When did you order? I'm just trying to ascertain if they are shipping out these Blu-Rays for recent orders or if it's for all orders. I placed my order two months ago and I pray that I won't be charged.

It was a fresh order from 12/5. I placed two orders, one with Disturbia and one with Dreamgirls, and I just noticed I got charged for both although I just got the shipping confirmation for Dreamgirls so far.

Thanks for the heads up. I just now cancelled the account that I used for this glitch, just to be on the safe side. All the orders I made are closed, but I wouldn't want CH to look at my account and decide to bill me for those movies months later.

Not that I did this so called "glitch" but if they caught on, wouldn't you be charged for the free DVD's, not the Blurays?
