I think you're overthinking it. The titles that are on sale have been sitting on the shelves for 1-4+ years. We're probably only talking a very low percentage of titles per store. The majority of what you'll find is regular price, unless you have a store where DVDs don't sell well. I also think it's not a case of there being no signs, but rather the signs being taken down too early. I don't think employees are really aware of how much old stock they have. Of course, there may be some stores where they've actually pulled and re-priced all the clearance titles. However, I doubt most stores will take the time to do that.

It's from April and the guy mentions some of the $5 blu-rays ringing up $3.50. This does suggest that it's not a temporary sale, but rather permanent markdowns.

I was at the Big Lots in Pittsfield, MA on Saturday. There was a sale sign with a bunch of dvds below it on a shelf. I took another stack of titles up to the counter for a price check. They were all ringing up at regular price. The cashier honored the sale because the sign was still up:

Gene Simmons: Family Jewels S1 - marked $10, sale $3
Flipping Out S4 - marked $10, sale $3
Rikky & Pete - marked $3, sale 90 cents
The Flamingo Kid - marked $3, sale 90 cents
South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut - marked $5, sale $2.50

The cashier spoke to the manager before I left, and he said that this sale was over, and another one is starting Monday (today). For what? I don't know.

I visited my BL in Boyertown yesterday only to find they took down the cardboard boxed Warner Bros display of TV series for 2 for $14 and intermingled the remaining sets with the rest of the DVD fair.

I suppose this means they will not be getting anymore replenishments from Warner Bros. My store never did receive season four of the "OC".

I wouldn't necessarily say that is the end, my guess is that if they get more in, they'll come in a fresh new display (as is usually the case for Big Lots). I would guess though that any new inventory would be different titles. For what it is worth, the previous display had the titles of the series included in the display on the box.

One of my stores got a large replenishment of the Warner TV titles.

My BL's Boyertown,Pa. store had the initial stocked cardboard box Warner display, and consequently received a very small replenishment, perhaps a month later.

The clerks are very busy rearranging all of the regular inventory onto different shelves to create an illusion that the store has received much new different inventory, when in fact, it is the same old stuff.

The BL closest to me has done a complete rearrangement in the last few months. I don't like it.

I went to Big Lots today expecting nothing new and found a lot that was new to me. I remember seeing some 2-disc special editions like Treasure of the Sierra Madre and Saturday Night Fever for $5 each, a few double and triple features for $3 and even this 4 movie set (Thriller Pack Quadruple Feature: Fear / The Watcher / Raising Cain / A Kiss Before Dying) for $3. This is what I picked up:

Kingdom Hospital: The Entire Series
Quest for Camelot/Cats Don't Dance
Romper Stomper 2 disc special edition

$3 blu-rays
Green Lantern Emerald Knights
Justice League Crisis on Two Earths

I hope we see more $3 DC blu-rays in the future.

Hit Pearl St today. While i didn't even go there for dvd's, the dvd section was a joke. They were also out of 2 of the 3 non dvd items i went in for, but if anyone wants a junky Remington electric razor cheap, they had several models............. (sigh)

Walked out with 1 package of paper plates to use for cat food dishes.

Stopped by a Big Lots today in Lakewood, CA. They now have a separate section for blu rays. Still the same stuff they always have (The Final Destination, one of the Matrix movies, some leftover Disney junk titles, Last House on the Left, etc...) but at least they separate them now.

OOh... Looks like I need to make a trek over to Big Lots again. (well that and the DC animated movies showing up)

I was slack in picking up THE PRINCESS BRIDE: Dread Pirate Roberts/Princess Buttercup Edition when it was released so I missed out on this extras packed release. Would be nice to find it, even though I already have the blu-ray.
