Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
After dicovering DouglasRobert's post mid-afternoon, I high-tailed to my local Dollar Tree, hoping to get in on the action. In addition to the previously mentioned Punch-Drunk Love, Marie Antoinette, The Net 2.0, Slipstream, and Running with Scissors, I also saw:
Silver City (directed by John Sayles) Flight of the Red Balloon (directed by Hou Hsiao Hsien) Lonesome Jim (directed by Steve Buscemi) Truth or Consequences N.M. (directed by and starring Kiefer Sutherland) Stealth 2-disc Special Edition (starring Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel) The Road to Guantanamo Hannah Takes the Stairs I ended up snagging 8 DVDs. Thanks for the tip, DouglasRobert! |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
Got the following at (2) of the local Dollar Trees... the discs seem to be Weinstein/Genius Ext. overstock, stuff that's around 5-6 years:
* Punch-Drunk Love (2 disc set) * The Business (dir: Nick Love) * Blonde Ambition * Marie Antionette * The Man who Loved Women * The Storm * Meteor (not the 1979 movie) * Scary Movie 4 * Lonesome Jim * Alex Rider- Operation Stormbreaker * Hannah Takes the Stairs * The Suburbans * The Killing of John Lennon * 1408 * London * I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With ...as well as a few other IFC "smaller" titles |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
The store closest to me actually got some, but they were pretty picked over. only 2 titles even worth mentioning were Running With Scissors & Slipstream. This may be the 1st time that store has had anything reported here!
|
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
I didn't see anything when I was in there today. Either they didn't get anything or it came and went. There's a new store that I could check out, but the couple of times I've been in there they haven't had any DVDs. However, it's also more out of the way, so if they did get anything, it probably wouldn't be too picked over.
|
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
The one store I went to only had 3 titles:
Lies & Alibis The Suburbans Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
Seeing the recent activity in this thread, I figured I'd drop in to my local Dollar Tree since I happened to be nearby. For the first time ever, they had a DVD display almost front and center as you came into the store. It wasn't very full, so perhaps there was some decent stuff there at one point. I only saw 5 different titles (all mentioned previously) with multiple copies of each. Nothing I was interested in. I was thankful there wasn't anything I had purchased previously for more than $1. :D

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
I must have missed these DVDs when I was in there the other day, but I found them today. I picked up:
The Net 2.0 The Great Debaters Slipstream American Gun Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker The Company I'm glad I never found The Company at Big Lots and also passed on Slipstream there as well because paying $1 for each is better than $3 each. |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
I purchased the following titles at a Dollar Tree in Orlando ( Waterford Lakes Town Center - at Alafya Trail ).... half of the display is already gone... hoping they'll get more soon....
Truth Or Consequences N.M. Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
...a few others that were put ot that were different than the last time I was there:
* Beautiful, Ohio * Depth Charge * School for Scoundrels (Full-screen) * Derailed (Full-screen & Unrated) |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
jbeeching,
Thanks for mentioning Beautiful, Ohio. I hadn't seen anything else of interest, but that's definitely a title that I've been looking for at $5-$6 or less (clearly this qualifies). After reading your post, I checked out 3 stores, but found practically nothing. One store had 0 DVDs, another had only Slipstream and the third had Silver City & Lies & Alibis. But everything turned out well anyway as I spotted a HC book that I had been looking to pick up. I had ordered it from Deep Discount for $7.99, but they canceled it and I was thinking that I'd have to buy it as a Bargain Book from Amazon for $10.38, but this one was in fair shape, and I'm quite pleased to have it for $1.09. |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
I would have posted this earlier but my internet was out since early Friday.
Went there a second time this week and they put out some more new titles. Since it's been a few days I have forgotten some titles, so here is what I can remember. The Great Debaters (with Denzel Washington) 2- disc set, some with slip-covers London The Storm (I think this is that Sci-Fi channel made for tv movie with Luke Perry |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Either seek out the old Miramax DVD or the Echo Bridge Blu-Ray, which is pretty good.
So what kind of pair up is that anyway? Is Texas Rangers supposed to appeal to the Jim Jarmusch crowd? Yeesh. Artisan probably treated Ghost Dog with more dignity. |
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
I've bought a lot of DVD's at the Dollar Tree in Flourtown PA.
It's hit or miss.Sometimes they have a lot, sometimes nothing. They used to have a lot of the cardboard envelope public domain titles(I bought a lot of those)but nowdays when they have DVD's they are major studio & some indie titles. Here's a list of some of what I found. Konga Attack of the Puppet People Ballad of Jack &Rose Standing in the Shadows of Motown(DVD or VHS) Scary Movie 4 Barbershop 2 Prick up your Ears Innocent Voices. All these were shrinkwrapped. Most had a slash through the UPC code.I bought a lot more of these but I can't remember the titles off hand.I also found CD's by Bjork,Barenaked Ladies,Tift Merritt & Guns & Roses Chinese Democracy. |

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
These will be tough to get because it takes just one person interested in DVDs to blow through a whole store's stock.

The DVDs are listed on my receipt as "Sony Vivendi DVD". That should give a clue as to their main focus this time around.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
There is a reason stores didn't have them...they were put out too soon! Couldn't find any at my nearby dollar tree, saw a manager looking type putting stuff out and asked about the DVDs, and he said they didn't have any...yet. I said I had read on the web about all this great dvds folks were finding and he said those stores(and some regional/district managers care more than others) had gotten in trouble because they aren't supposed to be on sale til Friday. Seems like an odd day, but he said they are the deal of the week, and you should have the deal of the week that has been advertised....so your local store may not suck...they were just doing the right thing. Of course, someone can still come in at 9:01(or whenever they open) and clean them out! ;)

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
Appreciate the heads-up, berigan. Might drop by again. If I find them then, I'll be sure to tell the cashier that I'm sorry for thinking that their store sucked.
|
Re: Dollar Tree DVDs
DVDs at my local stores disappear like nothing. There was a girl working there whose dad setup at a flea market. Whenever they had DVDs come in, she would let him know and he'd buy everything they had on the shelf. My other closest store very rarely gets anything. The last time I saw on here that people were finding movies, I went over there and no one knew what I was talking about.
