Seriously...I hate how this thread gets filled with so much repetitive nonsense and stupid questions that are easily answered with ten seconds of thought or reading the damned thread in the first place!

If you hate repetitive nonsense I think you need to leave this thread since 99% of it is "Look what I got today"

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

I went absolutely insane today, instore. Using a 5 dollar off coupon on each of the following:

Bluray-
8 1/2
Close Up
Mystery Train
Hunger
Days of Heaven
Everlasting Moments
Red Desert
Stagecoach
The Leopard
Paris, Texas
Yojimbo
M
Revanche
Vivre Sa Vie
Walkabout
Bigger than Life

DVD:
Jeanne Dielman 23, quai du Commerce 1080 Bruxelles
Night Train to Munich
Chantal Akerman in the 70s eclipse series

I also plan to get Black Narcissus and the Red Shoes next Tuesday.

The bank account is crying, but it is oh so worth it.

I went in with a $5 off $50 and a couple of the $5 off one DVD with the intention of using one of each for Red Desert blu, Everlasting Moments blu, and The War Trilogy in two transactions (one of EM and the Rossellinni box, one of Red Desert). I had them on hold so she got them and I said "I got these in an email this weekend, so can I do two transactions and use them both? She said sure and happily started scanning...the computer balked at the coupon as she did the single one first, but then she told me I just had to buy something to get it over $20 (which didn't make sense...I think she just wasn't reading it right) since it was standing at $19.99. I said "it says 'before discounts' on the coupon, so I figured it should work" - but she scanned it a few times and said nope. So I instead grabbed The Leopard blu and she said that would go fine since it was $24.99. The computer balked at THAT too, but she just sighed and manually entered it instead saying it must be a glitch.

then she did the Box + Everlasting Moments w/ the $50 off $50 and it again didn't work when she scanned it, but she just entered it manually since it was $58 before the coupon. So I got to use both w/ a bit of work on her part...but most importantly she was chatty and happy to do it - nothing like the accusatory crap some got last time.

Then I noticed a nice old guy in the Criterions with 5 or 6 in his hands so we started chatting...I showed him my haul and talked him into buying Everlasting Moments....then he talked me into wanting Red Desert badly and we just shot the shit for 10 or 15 minutes. At which point I realized the girl had gone on break and the dude that put the others on hold yesterday was there...so I snagged Red Desert and Night Train to Munich and went up and laughingly said I had to get more ("I just can't help myself!!" kind of stuff) and he laughed about it and I handed him the other $5 off 1 DVD coupon and he automatically just entered it manually without a question - as though he'd seen them earlier in the day already and knew it wouldn't scan. So they were $13.50 each...$27 and change out the door.

the total haul was

Red Desert
Everlasting Moments
Leopard

Rossellinni's War Trilogy
Night Train to Munich

For almost exactly $100 and getting $15 worth of the $5 coupons in 3 transactions with 2 different clerks. Again, I can't stress this enough...the key is NOT BEING GREEDY. Do not walk up with 15 blu rays and a stack of coupons! Just be friendly and try one to start...once you establish the rapport, build on it next time. I'll go in tomorrow with a couple more and say something like "My dad wants me to pick this up for him, can I use this again for him?" It has so far worked every time.

NO.....you were greedy. you went up with 15 fucking blu rays and expected $5 off them all on top of the sale? No way in hell that was going to work.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

Is anyone else seeing the old Blu-ray digipacks still in stock?

In all three stores I visited today, they seemed to still have these in bunches. It kind of sucks, since they're not able to get the new ones in until they sell out of the digipacks.

I would just get them online for an extra $2 each, but as mentioned, the coupons have been deactivated for this sale.

Some titles yes, others no. I can't find Last Year At Marienbad in a hard case. Checking another store tomorrow. There were other old titles I found with the hard case, but I don't recall which ones.

No problems using all 5 coupons in one transaction today. Did it 5 times to add 25 new titles to my nearing 500 collection.

That combo, the two $5, 10%, 15%, and $5 off $50 combo, works out to virtually the same as just the $5 coupon alone; $52.50 instead of $52 for four titles.

Marienbad isn't an old title. There is no hard case packaging for it. It's packaging isn't like the original blu-ray criterion digipaks.

Last Year at Marienbad was one of the last BDs -- if not the last -- in the original top/bottom loading digipak.

It has been replaced by the keep case version.

However, outside of these sales, it's not likely a big retail mover, so the original digipak is more prevalent.

Bottom line, the coupon last year was made to be used multiple times and because of the wording SHOULD have always been used on 39.95 criterions.
In other words "I tried to abuse the hell out of this coupon" but got shot down so HE's the asshole?

But if a starting price is $39.99 the sale taking it to $20.00 even (that $20 being the selling price) then add the 10% member discount taking it down to $18.00 then the $5 making it $13.00. It should be accepted per their rules.
Except for those other rules that say it should not be

Just accept it folks, unless you just bought a membership, you should not be able to use this coupon, and if you have, you should only use it once. Anything else is gravy....getting pissed off about it is retarded - you are trying to abuse a coupon not intended for you to use at all, let alone 20 times in one visit in order to get DVDs for 75% off.

It is utterly amazing to me how entitled people can feel to things like this. They don't owe us squat...the prices are already amazing, and if you can get away with a few of those then great....but getting all pissed off because you tried to use it 20 times? Self entitled idiocy...period.

those posts are actually great...it's cool to see what people are getting, and usually gives me and a lot of others Ideas for titles to look for themselves.

I'll try this tomorrow. My cashier had no problem with allowing one of each of the $5 off of $20 coupon, so I think that I stand a fighting chance with this method. Thanks for the idea.

FWIW, I checked my receipt and they do indeed show as $20 for the $39.99 titles I bought...however, I saw with my own eyes that the register displayed $19.99 when it was originally rang up. Very very strange.

Looks like no more coupons for the online sale. Have a feeling it is a matter of time before it dies at the stores. I'm seeing the following message on the web site for the titles that are on sale.

Note: This item does not qualify for coupons or promotional discounts unless expressly stated.
Yup, I noticed that when I browsed the site just a while ago. I said to myself, "That was not there last night."

I hope that since they have changed the rules regarding coupons that this doesn't affect my orders, which had coupons applied. I got the "scheduled to ship" e-mail today with the discounts still listed, and the orders still appear with those prices on my account. However, the date they are scheduled to ship is 7/13, and as of 11:23 P.M. EDT, they have not shipped. They're sitting there and I hope they don't get cancelled.

Delays of this kind have happened to me with B&N before, but so far I have not been notified of a revised shipping date for these orders.

Picked up Red Desert (Blu) tonight, the semi-hot cashier didn't think twice about allowing the coupon, she just said "oh, you just made it" and did whatever she needed to do for it to go through.

I have never bough a CC dvd before, but theres always been a handful of movies iv been interested in. so while no OUTSTANDING coupon deals I was content on 50% off and got a membership too for the extra 10%

But Picked up
Salo
Videodrome
Two Lane Blacktop
Vampyr
and on BD
Yojimbo and Sanjuro

I actually really like these sets and are well worth the money. went today around 5 and the place was damn near picked clean. going to try and hit up another one tomorrow before work and look for repulsion and Seven Sam and spend some time looking at others that i may find interesting.

Re: Criterion Sale? Ever Again? (NOW ACTIVE/ALIVE AT B&N)

all these in-store coupon successes are making me jealous.

the coupons wouldn't register, and the cashier said there was no way of overriding it without a manager, and she was sure the manager wouldn't allow multiple coupon usage. ugh.

either way, bought the following blu's for $98 total:

Bigger Than Life
Red Desert
Vivre Sa Vie
The Leopard
Walkabout

I noticed one of the stores I scavaged today had some damage to it's inventory too, not sure why but I was surprised by how quickly this store got hit. Hope they restock soon.
