Re: Big Lots Part 6

I made another trip to my two stores... First one, nothing new. In the second one the restocked and found The Flintstones S1, S2( this one is opened) and S3, as well as the Popeye set. No Tales from the Crypt yet.

When does the ad start? I thought it was Sunday, but they told me it is on Saturday. I want to believe it but I learned my lesson about trusting a Big Lots employee.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

picked up "war at home" on a blind buy for $3, got it home and went looking online for reviews on it. when I checked it on amazon, I noticed that the price on amazon marketplace has been driven down to $3.95, it looks like a funny show and I will prob enjoy it, but Its nice to see that the hording bastards will only make a big 75 cents on it for all thier efforts. hope all the other sets get driven down just as low. when I see a set I missed out on sitting at a garage sale because they couldnt move it, I'll just offer them a dollar for it.

Nothing to add here... Just wanted to say hello to all of the n00bs!

Hello!

One of us... One of us... One...

I'm too lazy to post a Freaks one sheet, but hopefully, you get the idea.

I stopped nowhere this evening, other than a beer run, and it felt good.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I think this weekend sale is gonna be hit and miss if my 2 local stores (SoCal) are any indication. I got an employee at both to check what was waiting to go out saturday. One store had only one box of those 50 movie sets...maybe a dozen total. The other had 4 boxes of Flintstones. He brought out 2 for me to check. One was season 2 the other was season 3. we concluded that the 2 "identical" boxes probably had seasons 1 and 4. Nothin else..

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I just want to stand up for the Big Lots employees that get a lot of flack around here. A guy today was restocking the shelves with some random sets he found in the back room. He said he actually worked in the furniture department but thought he should help out the regular electronics guy who was off today. He was taking the time to organize things according to price and similarity. One woman found the first and third seasons of Superman but couldn't find season 2. A few minutes after she walked away he came across a copy and tracked her down in the store to give it to her. he also let me look through his boxes.

I ended up spending about $90 on a bunch of stuff I never would have considered buying at regular price.

Flintstones 2
Flintstones 3
Flintstones 4
Flintstones 5
Flintstones 6
Huckleberry Hound Vol 1

Re: Big Lots Part 6

went to several so cal stores today.

fullerton, ca store on state college/chapman looks like they got a restock. plenty of flintstones, popeyes, adventures of superman, war at home, tracey takes on, and west wing box sets. picked up tales from the crypt season 4/6, as well as a batman/superman animated double-pack. no $10 sets though.

diamond bar, ca store had nothing. don't know if they put stuff out and it's all been bought or they just haven't received anything. lots of dukes seasons and an assortment of dvds, but no $3 sets or $10 sets. workers didn't know much when asked about their dvd arrivals.

chino, ca store was wiped out. didn't see any of the sets that have been mentioned, so i'm guessing maybe they're waiting for the weekend to put ad stuff out? they were a good source a few weeks back when i got to pick up nip/tuck, smallville BD, friends, etc. so it was disappointing to see almost nothing.

montclair, ca had the most pitiful selection of dvds ever. and it's not the first time. do big lots get dvd stock based on how much they sell? this store had one small box of single dvd titles and nothing else.

so now i'm pretty much just looking for tales from the crypt 1/2 and i'm guessing that's it... it'd be nice to just SEE some of the $10 sets here. any other so. cal-ers in a similar area to the cities i've mentioned see titles at any other stores?

it's both exciting/exhausting going on these searching expeditions (i guess that's the best way to say it) and i wonder how much gas i've wasted going back to all these stores every few days. but ah, the thrill i get when i actually see the titles i want when i walk in the store...

Re: Big Lots Part 6

+1 The young lady at my store this morning let me rummage through the shopping cart as she was putting them on the wire racks. She didn't have to do that.

Great haul BTW

Exactly my experiences.. I visit all the above regularly except the Fullerton location. How many seasons 6 of Tales From The Crypt did they have there, or how many of $3 sets in total?? You should check out the Chino Hills location. It is the one closest to me and they already got these $3 sets (go on Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Yeah the Upland (Montclair) location is pitiful...

only had 1 copy of both 4/6 of TFTC. and i picked those up. had two copies of 3/5. there were a pretty decent amount of $3 sets. went after work about 7PM. about 12 popeyes, 5 superman animated vol. 1, 3-4 copies of each season set of adventures of superman, 10 or more tracey takes on s1, quite a few flintstones s3, only two copies of s4 and s5. was thinking about picking up flintstones, they had s2-5, but didn't see s1 so ended up skipping it.

is the chino hills location on chino hills pkwy? i went there too, only saw a few hannah barbera sets left (pebbles, top cat, wacky races) but none of the others i was looking for. unfortunately, work keeps me from going on the weekday mornings when they probably just put stuff out, so by the time i get there, everything's gone. ah well, what can you do?

and has anyone seen tales from the crypt season 7? i've only read s1-6 being found in this thread as far as i remember, so i'm curious if any copies of s7 has been found... or if it's somehow just left out

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Went on Wednesday and picked up Wacky Races, Dastardly & Muttley, Flintstones 1-5, Top Cat, Popeye, and God, The Devil, and Bob.

Heading back today (Sat.) to hopefully find Jetsons, Season 6 of Flintstones, Mission Hill, and Huckleberry Hound. Hell, I'll take any of the H-B sets I haven't gotten yet.

On a side note, has anyone seen Magilla Gorilla yet?

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I check all three stores again today and there was nothing left at any of them as far as the $3 sets go. I talked to the manager where I picked up my stuff last Friday and she said that they no more put the stuff out and it flew out the door. She wasn't sure if they were going to get any more stuff in also. I checked at the other two stores and it was the same story. One of the workers at the Blackstone store told me that they put it out and there was a guy that came in and got just about everything that they put out, so he must have been a reseller. Also none of the Fresno stores that I checked and asked got any of the $10 sets.
Also I was lucky enough to get Tales from the Crypt Season 7. There was only one copy of season 1, 6, and 7 in the boxes that I got to look through last week. I may go check again Sunday since the stores may be holding off putting out more stuff til the ad breaks to give some people a chance at getting some stuff in case a reseller goes in and buys it all up again.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I went to Circleville, Lancaster & Chillicothe stores yesterday evening after work.

All three had received their trucks in that morning. I asked employees if they recieved any new box sets or dvds and they said that they had not. They said they thought they were going to for the SUnday ad, but the stocks must have been split to othr stores.

I know the Circleville manager personally, and he checked after the truck came in and said they did not receive any new dvd's in either.

GRRRR!!!!

I just want to get my Flintstone season 5 (to complete my set)
rest of the crypts

& if god willing , the looney tunes 1-5.

Is Ohio going on the drout?

I believe I saw a Tales from the Crypt S7 at the Whittier location.

I myself dropped by Rowland Heights today and saw a ton of Lois and Clark, George Reeves Superman, and various Hanna Barbera sets (Wacky Races is the only one that comes to mind).

At the Whittier location, I saw various Tales from the Crypt sets, Flintstones S3, and about 4 more copies of Popeye. I lucked out and found a lone copy of Veronica Mars S2 here too

Still searching for Samurai Jack, Powerpuff, and Looney Tunes 1-5 (but then again, who isn't?). If anyone has any info about any SoCal, post em up because info in that area's been relatively scarce (esp. around the Rowland Heights area).

Last Monday at BL I bought this set 'Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Academy Awards Animation Collection - 15 Winners, 26 Nominees' and I am surprised that no else has seen it in their travels?
I just watched it and I think it's probably one of the better sets out there.

That has been reported by others. I picked one up myself the other day.

It's been mentioned a couple times. I picked this up on Tuesday. It's a great set that normally goes for $30. If anything, I thought we would only see the winners version of this set.

Welcome to the "club"!

Keep in mind that if a truck "comes in Friday" you'll typically not see stock from the shipment hit the shelves until late Friday/early Saturday at the earliest. Some stores wait a couple of days depending on current stock levels on the floor, so check often if you *really* want something.

Because of the search for TV sets it's gotten to where I pay a daily visit to BL and rarely go away empty handed. Typically it's a movie I haven't seen at BL before, and lately there has been a superb selection of older (pre 1960) films which has included some true classics. I shudder to think what my daily expenditures would add up to on a monthly basis. $3-$9 a visit doesn't seem so bad... but... add up 20 or more of those visits... whew! Of course if you then compare this with what you'd expect to pay at DD or amazon, it's just amazing what you "saved"!

With BL it's always a guessing game which is why some of us hit a store often. I'm one of the fortunate few in that my favorite store is less than a mile from my house *or* office so I'll sometimes go at lunch as well as on the way home. My extra gas for daily BL visits is less than $5 a month. It's also one of my wife's favorite places to "just browse" so we'll go together 2-3 times a week in addition to my solo visits. I go in so often that *several* of the stockers/checkers know me by name and tell me when I walk in the door if new stock has hit the floor.

Big Lots has become my primary source for DVDs of late. Because of all these great deals on TV seasons, plus all the great movies, I scalled *way* back on my DD order this time, spending only ~$65. Normally I'd spend ~$150 at DD during a % off sale. It was a hard thing to do because most of what I purchased at BL is neither on nor near the top of my "wish lists", but when you can spend ~$100 for 25+ sets you'll know you'll enjoy...

Each store is completely different, yeah. Some stores put the DVDs out ASAP, some wait until Saturday or Sunday, and some stores wait to put stuff out until Wednesday morning since that's the day their ads officially begin.
