Re: Big Lots Part 6

I went to the Danvers, MA, store when they opened and actually found some $3 sets! I picked up the only copies of Huckleberry Hound and the Perils of Penelope Pitstop. I also got Birdman & the Galaxy Trio which they had a few more copies of.
They also had:

The Flintstones season 3
Tracy Takes On season 1
The War at Home season 1
Popeye
Larry King interviews
Jacques Cousteau
Josie & the Pussycats
Dastardly & Muttley
Tom & Jerry two packs
Appleseed Ex Machina (one copy)

I was surprised to see all the West Wings were gone and I think Joey was gone too. They still had season 5 & 6 of the Dukes, and a copy of season 4, which I hadn't seen before.

Please post your findings. As of last night:
NoHo (Sherman Way) nothing new. Only a few Flintstones season 3
NoHo (Vineland) nothing left except tons of War At Home season 1
Van Nuys (Sepulveda) the best selection of the 3: Flintstones 2 and 3, Popeye, Tales from Crypt 3 and 5, Lois $ Clark 3, maybe a few others

Although my purchases are at DVD Planet (due to a credit build-up), I fully agree.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Since I've been finding DVDs at BL that have been sitting in my DD and DVD Planet wish lists, I've been limiting my purchases from them to what hasn't been seen in the stores, mostly silent movies and Paramount and Shout! Factory TV box sets.

Between Big Lots, those 25% off sales and B&N's Criterion sale, the unthinkable has started to happen.

The very thought of DVDs is starting to make me nauseous.

Isn't that the b-day present you were looking for? Cool! Congrats on Huck Hound, I'm still looking for that one. Sun is out, looking like a good one today

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Checked the Cedar Springs store again this morning, no restock. I did pick up Josie and the Pussycats, Batman vs. Dracula (mainly for the figures), and season two of Veronica Mars. Still no luck finding the missing seasons of Tales from the Crypt, Space Ghost or the Powerpuff Girls. =(

The search continues...

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Went back to Essex Jct, VT store this morning - called first. They had a bit of stuff. Whoever had the theory that stores who had nothing before will have it now is right!
Tons of popeye, Flinstones 1-3, Tales from the Crypt 2-6, Top Cat, Wacky Races, 3 different Super Friends sets, couple Thundercats S2V2, Lois and Clark season 2 not much else.

I picked up:
Top Cat
Flinstones 1&2
Scooby Doo Complete movies set
Challenge of the Super Friends
Another Super Friends (season 1)
Another Popeye (the one with the comic inside)

There wont be much left here after today.
Still looking for:
Space Ghost
Looney Tunes (natch)
Johnny Quest
MAgilla Gorilla
BIrdman
Flinstones 6

Will hit Morrisville tomorrow.

I went to my local one today and I all I saw was Popeye. I would've loved to had Tales from the Crypt Seasons 4-6.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Found some stuff this morning in South Plainfield, NJ. They had:

War at Home Season 1 (bought)
The Flintstones 1-3 (bought each)
Top Cat
Adventures of Superman 1, 2, 5/6 (bought one of each)
Various Lois & Clark (don't remember which seasons)

I planned to get there for opening at 9, but made it a little late and two guys had beat me to other sets. I saw Tales From the Crypt, Popeye and the Superman 3/4 among others in their carts.

I also went to the Springfield store on route 22. They're closing with 20% off everything and had no new DVDs.

No restocks any any of the Raleigh, NC stores or the Durham, NC store on Hwy 55. Very disappointing day (Saturday 7/25/09). Makes me wonder if new stuff will be out first thing tomorrow morning... --Peter

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I don't remember anyone mentioning spotting Doctor Who at BigLots???

Today at the Bristol, PA, store there were 2 copies of Doctor Who: Claws of Axos (Jon Pertwee) for $3. I left one behind and am watching the other right now.

Good Lord, if the WB starts dumping single stories of Doctor Who for $3, I'll be making the circuit of my local BigLots every day.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Actually, checking Big Lots on-line site there are no weekly ads listed for the Raleigh stores. Surrounding areas (Greensboro, Charlotte) do have ads featuring the $3 box sets... --Peter

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Are sealed Flintstones sets rare? The only one I saw so far sealed was S4. I am hesitant to pick up the rest because I want to try and find them sealed, but if it is impossible then I will just get opened copies soon.

Snagged two of the looney tunes golden collection 1-5 and an imax set in concord, nc. There was still one Looney Tunes Golden left and there was also a looney tunes movie collection for $10. No Tales From the Crypt sets here though. They also had the Kubrick and Roots $10 sets.

I wouldn't go just go based off online. My local store didnt bring up an ad either for bay City, MI. But they got the $6 sets in earlier. They waited til the day they were advertised for though. Maybe some stores are just waiting for tomorrow. God I hope so.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

No new box sets today(so far). A new assortment of $3 movies has been showing up over the last couple of days at two of the stores though. Picked up:

God the Devil and Bob(this one's been around for a while, just now decided to pick it up)
Overnight Delivery(had seen this in the Ross thread but couldn't find it. Saved a buck or two!)(Paul Rudd & Reese Witherspoon)
The Sleeping Dictionary(blind buy, but $3 for early Jessica Alba should be safe)
Highway(Leto, J. Gyllenhaal, Selma Blair)(another blind buy that will probably not be worth the $3 but wanted to upgrade from VHS. Don't let me down Selma)
Kansas City(interesting noir looking film with J.J. Leigh)

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Well the dvd gods finally smiled on central N.J. today. The South Planfield location waited to stock the $3 box sets until the weekly ad kicked in (7/25-8/1).I was the first one thru the door and headed for the regular dvd section. No luck.On my way to the front of the store to pick up a copy of the circular to show the manager,i spotted the display of freshly stocked box sets.
By this time there were four guys circling the usual dvd stock.I threw what i was looking for into my cart than, went over and pointed them in the right direction. It was like watching a bunch of sharks during a feeding frenzy!

Here's what they had as of 9am.

Flintstones 1-5 (all shrink wrapped)
Top Cat
Wacky Races
Pebbles & Bamm Bamm (2 copies)
WB Academy Awards Animation Collection (3 copies)
Popeye Volume 1
Adventures Of Superman 1-6
Lois & Clark 1-4
Tales From The Crypt 1-5 (all gone as of 9:10)
The War At Home

Still no sign of Huckleberry Hound,Johnny Quest,Space Ghost,Birdman,Josie or the infamous $10 set's.I plan to check back often this week as they must of more in the back.

Happy hunting to all.

I bought The Wild Bunch 2 disc special edition!!!

At Milford Ma ...finally the animation boxes came in they did have a differnt selection than W.Bridgewater

Dastardly & Muttley
Huckleberry Hound
Appleseed Ex Machina
Space Ghost and Dino Boy
Top Cat

And they had a bunch of Adventures of Superman many seasons.

How many people have seen the Justice League Season 1 Blu-Ray? That seems as elusive as the Smallville S6 Blu-Ray....

Re: Big Lots Part 6

Picked up at Northampton, MA store:

Wacky Races
Jonny Quest 1st season
Popeye Vol. 1
Top Cat
Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm
WB Academy Awards Animation Coll. (http://www.amazon.com/Brothers-Entertainment-Academy-Animation-Collection/dp/B000ZOXDKA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1248548527&sr=8-1)

All $3 each. Haven't seen the last one mentioned and that's why I included a link to it. Seemed worth it to me.
Also saw and passed on the following: (the infamous) Joey, War at Home, Tales from the Crypt 1-5, Lois & Clark 1-4, West Wing 1-3, Yogi Bear (already bought ages ago for $10), Tom & Jerry 2-pack and all Flinstones (sealed, but I got the whole series box through CH for $25 a while back).

They had 3 or more of each one, but no Looney Tunes 1-5 with pins. No biggie since I have Vol. 1-4 (1 and 2 from the Target $5.99 misprice and 3 and 4 for $7.50 each in a Best Buy b1g1 PM).
Last week a coworker got me Animaniacs Vol.2 and Pinky & The Brain 1 and 2.
Hopefully will find some more HB sets sometime, but can't complain about what I found in my one and only trip so far.
