Philadelphia, PA has a restock of the Bond flicks, including Never Say Never Again and Casino Royale (1967). Some of the Bond DVDs (The Living Daylights and For Your Eyes Only) were the one-disk remasters. Also had some anime DVDs and some PC games that were new (Mount & Blade, Empire Earth Gold, Gothic 3 SE, Europa Universalis III Complete). Bought Duel, Educating Rita, and When We Were Kings WS/FS. |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
Found three copies of the WS/FS Sweet and Lowdown in the large shipper at the good Big Lots in my area. One was smashed, so I bought one for me and one for my friend.
I also bought a stack of Bonds. I wouldn't have, but they all had the booklets (I could tell by the weight and shaking them), so I left with Dr. No, You Only Live Twice, The Man With the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Octopussy, License to Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough. Would have gotten Moonraker and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but I was out of cash, so tomorrow I'll probably grab those. Also saw The Living Daylights, but it was the new version and it didn't mesh with the other nine, and For Your Eyes Only didn't have the booklet (I could tell it was an Eco Box -- even worse!). I also snagged Smiley Face and the comedy Casino Royale. My wallet bemoans the idea of non-slashed Warners. There are already plenty I'd have purchased if they didn't slash the barcodes, so if they stop, I'm headin' towards broketown even faster than I already am. |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
Found and picked up these tonight for $6 each:
Scooby Doo Where are You: Season Three Wait Till Your Father Gets Home: Season One Thundercats: Season One V.1 Animaniacs V. 1 And for $3 each: A WS/FS flipper copy of Sweet and Lowdown (SCORE!) The Daytrippers The Return Devil in the Flesh 1+2 Double Feature Beautiful Creatures Reality Bites Everything is Illuminated The Philadelphia Story: 2 Disc Sour Grapes (Not in a snapper case! Awesome. I am finally able to replace that snapper out of my collection now.) Logan's Run King Kong: 2 Disc The Right Stuff: 2 Disc Cabaret (with slipcover) Palmetto |

Yes, they were mixed in with what I assume was a box of DVD's that got put out on the 4 sided wire racks. This store also got in the 4 sided cardboard display that was filled with mostly Bond titles and also 4+ "flats" of dvd's. A lot of re-stock but many WB titles that previously showed up slashed are now showing up "clean".
Sounds like you might've had the advantage of WB screwing up and sending the wrong format in to BL. |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
This was the same blu-ray that was $6 new on the Amazon marketplace for awhile.
|
Re: Big Lots Part 4
All this WB catalog stuff means I have to search the couch cushions. Once again BL puts the hurt on my wallet.

Re: Big Lots Part 4
Checked my closest Big Lots and didn't see any of this new stuff. When I walk into a Big Lots and head towards the DVD display, I always have an extra bit of anxiety when I see several other folks crowded around it. Anyone else experience this?

Re: Big Lots Part 4
I rarely worry about crowds, since 90% of the people by absolute dreck. A few weeks back there was a husband and wife, convinced "Operation Wolverine" with Dolph Lundgren was the same movie as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"

Re: Big Lots Part 4
Store #1 told me they got nothing, Store #2 (where my contacts aren't as good) doesn't know.

Instead I now dread the problem of getting other people to pick what they want and then move along. Never seems to fail if there is a group of people by the DVD display at Big Lots, they're not cherry picking the best, they're just hovering over the rack like buzzards waiting for something to die. Going down each row reading and re-reading the DVD back label descriptions, so that by the time they've finished one row you've already scanned the rest of the entire DVD display. Usually I just hit some other area of the store and hope they're gone by the time I get back. Then there is the rarer, but far more annoying species, those that ignore every other section of the display *except* for the one you're at (whichever one it is at the moment - or changes to). And then they repeatedly reach past you, move in front of you, and practically hang around close enough to be able to rate your deodorant. Never seems to fail this seems to happen most at Big Lots stores that have the wire rack displays. We all know the ones - with shelf space too low to see the title bars, packed too dense to just flip through them, packed too deep to get to the back without pulling the entire front stack out first (made near impossible by the wire), and generally requiring time consuming dedication to go through (usually for little reward). Nothing puts the crimp in that already frustrating and awkward task like some obese middle aged lady one week past laundry day thinking the copy of '8 Mile' directly in front of you out of the 15 scattered through the display is the one with the sneak peak excerpt from Rowling's next book written on the back label. |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
Last time I went a guy was buying half a cart full, maybe closer to a full cart. I didn't look too closely, but he almost had to be buying multiples for reselling.

Re: Big Lots Part 4
I thought that was Antonio Sabato, not Dolph Lundgren in Operation: Wolverine?
Anyone willing to pick up Thundercats 1 & 2 for me? I have an extra Smallville S.7 Blu-Ray to trade if interested. |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
Today I got:
The Best of The New Scooby-Doo Movies boxset - $6 Scooby-Doo! 5 Original Animated Movies boxset - $6 Pinky and the Brain Vol. 1 - $6 The Right Stuff 2-Disc SE - $3 |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
Didn't find any of the Warner cartoon dvd collections or Wonder Woman set, but I did end up getting:
The Right Stuff (2-disc) Casablanca Kissin' Cousins |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
For me it never fails when I start looking at the DVDs at Big Lots, all of a sudden theres a bunch of interest in them. There could be no one there and they all appear and start looking at everything. And most times they never buy anything. I've actually seen multiple people stack up some DVDs, and then just dump them all back onto the shelf or display and take off.

Re: Big Lots Part 4
Has anyone seen the Superbowls I-X dvd?

Re: Big Lots Part 4
Lexington, KY...
Eastland has the Super Bowl sets, Thundercats, a shit ton of WB titles (including some noir) and some New Line stuff. But not the Bonds or Dukes. I picked up The Right Stuff SE, Everything is Illuminated and Gothika SE. The location behind Turfland Mall has most of the Bonds and the Wayne westerns, but not the WBs or the box sets. Would have picked up some more but I still have a stack of 20 or so to go through from the last time that I went in... Oh, and the Turfland location has one copy of the Little Women Classic Masterpiece DVD & Book Set for $3. Not really my cup of tea but a steal if anyone local is interested... |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
I wish I could find those cartoons locally.
|
Re: Big Lots Part 4
2 disc king kong (33) for three bucks??? daammmmn. thats a great deal, i bought that as soon as it came out and am still thoroughly happy. i may have to pick up a few for people if my BL ever gets anything in.
|
Re: Big Lots Part 4
Went back, got Moonraker and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Also bought Duel, Doctor Detroit, Revenge of Frankenstein, and an intriguing-looking movie called Picking Up the Pieces, which turned out to be OOP when I entered it in my DVDaf.
|
Re: Big Lots Part 4
Checked another 2 locations tonight, but all I got was Winter Passing. I'm very disappointed I couldn't find those box sets... :(
|
Re: Big Lots Part 4
I hit Burien, Wa tonight. No sign of the new Warner batch, they did have the "Dad's Day" batch with lots of James Bond.

Re: Big Lots Part 4
I really like it when they set up a cardboard display when they get a new shipment. I wish they would leave that up once the supply has been depleted to spread out the movies that are on the wire racks. Instead, they get rid of the cardboard one and pack the wire one so it is much harder to see what is in there. I can scan the cardboard ones in about 5-10 minutes, while it takes me much longer to go through the wire ones. Plus the wire display is prone to discs toppling over which causes floaters.
I had the same anxiety the other day because I saw there had been a new shipment of $2 titles and I know they are stocking only a few copies of each. There was a guy walking on the other side of the display, and all I could think was: "He's got the last copy of City of Lost Children!" |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
A few weeks back when I got to Big Lots they were putting out new stock and the employees were scooping up a lot, they got in The Dark Crystal and every copy was gone in a few seconds because this guy working there bought them all.
|
Re: Big Lots Part 4
There was restock at the Big Lots in Greer, SC since the last time I was there. I picked up:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season 1, Part One Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season 1, Part Two The Chateau (Paul Rudd) Winter Passing (Will Ferrell, Ed Harris, Zooey Deschanel) A Guy Thing (Jason Lee) The People Under The Stairs/Shocker two-pack There were quite a few more I wanted to pick up but I didn't have the cash. I may go back Monday or Tuesday though. |
Re: Big Lots Part 4

Re: Big Lots Part 4
My closest store had the DVD FOX DADS display, they had a bunch of the Bond films and a couple others... No box sets (they never got any when the Species/Rocky box sets were reported found either so I'm not holding my breath) :(
Did pick up: - The Chase - Young Frankenstein - Special Edition - Even Money - The World is not Enough - Special Edition - Man with the Golden Gun - Special Edition Would've picked up more Bonds but I was low on cash. The wire racks were still full of $6 P/V DVDs and a real mess (PC games, etc.)! |
Re: Big Lots Part 4
St Louisans:
The BL on Lemay Ferry has the new $3 Warner DVDs, but not the box sets. Picked up: PINK CADILLAC, THE ROOKIE (Eastwood), EAST SIDE WEST SIDE, PENNIES FROM HEAVEN and THE BRAVADOS |
