Re: Big Lots Part 4

A MASSIVE re-stock has hit the Knollwood (St. Louis Park, MN.) store. The wire rack four-sider is full and there are two separate, three-tier displays. I saw nearly everything that's shown up over the last year or two. I held myself back and picked up only:

A Beautiful Mind 2 disc SE
Apollo 13 2 disc Anniversary Edition
Arabian Nights (1942, Universal Cinema Classics)
Coal Miner's Daughter 25th Anniversary Edition
Day Of the Jackal
Lover Come Back
Pillow Talk
Ray
Tabitha ("The Entire Series" 12 ep on two discs)
Walk Hard

No Fox western titles, though.

Store closest to me said nothing new for the coming week. Hopefully one of our other stores will get the Bond/Western batch.

I found one lone copy of one of my favorite John Wayne westerns, "The Comancheros" at another Ohio Big Lots store today.

I went for the first time in about a month today. Not much at my store but I did get God, The Devil and Bob: The Complete Series. I didn't see that mentioned here yet. I never caught the show when it was on, but I'll give any show a shot for $3. Since it's a Fox TV DVD hopefully Greg The Bunny makes its way there soon.

Modesto, CA (eastside store)

Finally made it back in and found the East Big Lots did get in some new stock which had been placed into the four-sided display. It appears many had already gone through it, but they still left some for me, as I found:

Demon Seed $3
Jesus Christ Superstar $3
Man's Favorite Sport / Strange Bedfellows (Rock Hudson 2-pack) $6
The Revenge of Frankenstein $3
Seed of Chucky $3

Then I found some new cases dropped on an endcap on the other side of the store. It had old stuff in it like K-Pax and a lot of really, really bad films like Submerged with Coolio which is a remake of Airport '77 using scenes from...Airport '77. But I did find the one copy of:
Josie and the Pussycats (Theatrical PG-13 version) $3

Surprised to see also:
United 93 (FS) $3

Local BL has been putting most all of these titles out all this last week/two - staggering the output.

Did notice one slightly disturbing aspect - all of the newest titles (God, the Devil & Bob, Winter Passing, etc) seem to have the same UPC under the shrinkwrap. I know that the extra last 2 digits (top of UPC) are unique, but the normal first 12 are identical. Weird.

Big Lots usually puts blank stickers over the original UPC and one of there own UPC stickers on the front of the DVD case. They use the same UPC code for an entire batch of DVDs. The actual UPC # is just the middle set of numbers. For instance a recent batch all had the UPC # 550014209.

On most occasions, BL will put a blank sticker over the back UPC - yes. And their own sticker on the front with their own "UPC" & price. However, what I saw on part of the last batch was the the UPC had a very "generic" UPC on the back - under the shrink-wrap AND under the keep-case plastic. It was basically on the art work UPC itself.

The few I saw of those all were put out by a single distirbuter, so they may have been the ones screwing with the UPC. "Key DVD" if I recall.

Although I did buy a DVD once which looked officially shrinkwrapped which had the Big Lots front-cover sticker under the keepcase plastic and on the cover itself! I didn't notice until I got home or I would have bought a different copy.

I went into the store I call #2 (second closest to my house...) Nothing new, I think it's been around a month since they got ANYTHING. It may be because they're sitting on hundreds of mediocre titles from a couple months back.

I went in today but everything was in the process of being moved. The metal rack was being moved to a new location and the huge cardboard boxes display was either being moved or taken out. I did see a new shipment of dvds about to be stocked for tomorrow.
I found these peeping out the boxes Kansas, some 007 dvds, City Slickers, and D Day. Looks like stuff that had all been posted. Will return tomorrow and report what I see.

Picked up yesterday:

Bugsy Extended Cut 2 Disc Set
Brick
Josie and the Pussycats (Widescreen PG-13 version)

Is the Widescreen/Fullscreen flipper of Jawbreaker out of print? I saw the fullscreen only version at Big Lots yesterday and thought about picking it up if the original flipper disc is OOP. I figure it would be open-matte anyway so it wouldn't bother me too bad.

New four-sider cardboard display at Knollwood (St. Louis Park, MN.), with the Bond films and the Fox Westerns. Of the latter, I picked up:

The Bravados
Broken Lance
Buffalo Bill
The Comancheros
Forty Guns

Plus Legend Of the Lost (MGM)

The new display is to the right of the others and back along the aisle a bit...over by the 50% off drugstore clearance items.
