Re: Big Lots Part 4

I went to one of my local Big Lots that I visit a lot and I hit the motherload. They must have just stocked the shelves because the sets were all over the place, on the floor, on the shelves, and randomly sitting in other areas around the DVDs. I picked up:

The Jamie Foxx Show: Season One
Smallville: Season Four
Smallville: Season Seven (blu)
Nip/Tuck: Season Four (blu)
Wonder Woman: The Complete Collection (x 2)

I also picked up:

Gothika (2-Disc Special Edition)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol. 4
THX 1138 (Director's Cut)

I am officially finished with my Big Lots shopping for a while.

At the same store I saw multiple seasons of Dukes of Hazzard and multiple copies of Roots (30th Anniversary and Next Generation), Joey season one, Animaniacs (Vol. 1 & 2), Pinky & the Brain (Vol. 1 & 2), The OC season two, Thundercats (Vol. 1 & 2), and Super Friends (Vol. 2)

I would be willing to trade one of the Wonder Woman's for season two of Reaper (as long as the discs/case/slipcover are in top-notch condition). If anyone is interested, please PM me. Thanks.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

For those of you in CT, the Big Lots in both East Hartford & Newington put out a huge shipment of box sets. I can remember seeing the following:

Dukes of Hazzard
Nip/Tuck season 4
Dallas
Friends
Joey
Roots : TNG
History of Rock & Roll
History of the L.A. Lakers
Pinky & the Brain
Animaniacs
West Wing
ER (almost every season)
Nightmares & Dreamscapes

No Blu Rays however at either location, but of what they had, they had a lot!
This weekend I will be checking the Wallingford & Derby locations.

tried calling all the area stores that are either near a work location or a decent drive for a beautiful day... most were very helpful on looking to see if they had what I was looking for... but one place said yes, we have the particular title, but we cannot look for a particular season and if it were a big item like a fridge they would look but not for a small item like a dvd... argh...

some said they are not putting anything out until sunday......

What sucks about that Big Lots ad is that we'll now have to compete with tons of people who otherwise would have been oblivious to these DVD deals. The odds of us finding what we want will drop considerably...

I thought about that. I think even some of those who know Big Lots carries DVDs have been oblivious to the $6 sets. The last store I found the sets at had 'em all jammed in one side of the 4 sided wire rack display. If you had glanced at the other 3 sides, it would have looked like the same old selection of $3 titles.

For those of you looking for that elusive box set that you just can't find in your area. Do not despair. Check out the Unofficial Big Lots Exchange thread. Pretty much everything that people have been asking for on this thread is on there for trade! Especially since I just posted my trade list. Enjoy.

I noticed that here in the New England area, newbury comics has many of these sets on sale as well, not QUITE as good a bargain as the Big Lots sets, but I noticed some of the same titles for similar prices.

Jackpot!

I picked up the following:

ER Seasons 2,3,6,7 and 9
Night Court Season 1
Joey Season 1
Roots 30th Anniversary Edition
L.A. Lakers Dynasty
NFL Films: Inside the Vault 1960-1970

They were all still in the boxes, but the employee let me go through them and pick out what I wanted.

I'll be doing a massive update to the master list on Sunday or Monday and maybe start a new thread depending on how big it is by that point.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Well, as Texan26 and others have found out, the Nasa & Pearland stores have put their stock out. Only the Pearland store still had 3 copies of the Wonder Woman Complete Set on the shelf (I left them as I already picked one up @ Pasadena store last Wed). Kirby store had a little more out. The official "display" only had 2 titles in it - OC S2 & 3pks of Scooby-Doo.

Out of all of the stores I've visited in Houston area, the Nasa store has the best look & easiest to look thru display - all on a table standing up on end. Pearland had a similar table, but elected to just stack the sets on top of the DVDs already in the table - in addition to putting them in the normal DVD rack.

Glad you found some you wanted. I hope you find everything -- you deserve big thanks and excellent movie-finding karma for staying on top of this thread.

Big Lots on Florida in Baton Rouge finally put their sets out. They had most of the sets listed. I'd appreciate it if someone could post about the Gonzales location.

Also, is there a master list of tv shows in the sale?

Not sure if these have been listed:
Full House S5, S6
Babylon 5 movie collection
Batman cartoon movie 3 pack

I goofed on my last post. There wasn't a Season 4 of ER.

I also picked up a NFL Films: Inside the Vault: 1960-1970.

Well frak, I've been looking and calling all over Houston. The only titles I'm really wanting are Animaniacs and Pinky & The Brain. The one in Porter had P&TB Vol. 2 but none such luck on the others. Anyone in the Houston area know which Big Lots would have them (or has an extra copy lying around. I can meet up and give you like a buck extra for gas if you need)?.

Well, for what it's worth, most BL stores seem to go ahead an apply the discount no matter what time you bring it in on that day.

^^Yep. I made that same comment to the checker today on a run looking for new stuff. The only thing you could do would be to hide titles in the store somewhere. Depending on how diligent the staff is you might get lucky and they'll still be there in a week.

When I asked about some of the titles that have been seen elsewhere but have not arrived here she asked how I knew about them. I told her about the forum/thread. She was amazed that we do such a thing but thought it neat.

Stopped by the Biglots at 1341 Vine St in Hollywood, CA (just south of Sunset Blvd.)

Picked up the following:

Find Me Guilty WS (starring Vin Diesel) $3
Red Letters WS (starring Peter Coyote, Nastassja Kinski, Jeremy Piven) $3
The Best of the New Scooby Doo Movies (Hana Barbera Golden Collection) $6
Scooby Doo 5 Original Animated Movies*** $6

***movies are the following:
Scooby Doo in Where's My Mummy?
Scooby Doo and the Monster of Mexico
Scooby Doo and the Loch Ness Monster
Scooby Doo and the Legend of the Vampire
Scooby Doo on Zombie Island

Also saw some other boxsets including Smallville S4, Smallville Blu S7, OC S2, Knots Landing S1.

I bought the only copy of the above 2 Scooby Doo's, but they had 3 copies of Smallville Blu S7 this morning...

Re: Big Lots Part 4

I'm new to the forum here, after hearing about it from another DVDTalk member while at Big Lots. Thanks whoever you were at the Woodruff Rd. store in Greenville

My fiance and I have been to every Big Lots in Greenville, Mauldin, Greer, and Spartanburg, SC and finally found everything we were looking for. I picked up:

Animaniacs 1 & 2
Pinky & The Brain 1 & 2
West Wing season 2
Steamboy
An Evening With Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder

Out of I think 13 stores I only found one copy of P&TB vol. 1, which I bought. I've been looking for Steamboy for months, since BL had it the first time and it sold out or they stopped carrying it.

As for the box sets, the Cedar Springs Rd store in Spartanburg, we found Life Goes On and Full House (don't remember which seasons or volumes), which we hadn't seen anywhere else. They also had several copies of both Animaniacs 1 & 2.

York, PA finally got some! I was mainly interested in Animaniacs 2 and 3 and all of Pinky and the Brain, but they only had Animaniacs 1 and 2 and PATB 2, so I got V2 for each. I would have gotten Blade the Series and the Scooby-Doo 5-Pack if I saw them, but I didn't find any. Here's hoping to find more later!

I debated going to the York,PA store today or Westminster, MD store (I live in between the 2) Decided to go to Westminster and they had the sets out on a table.I was mainly interested in Nightmares/Dreamscapes so I really didn't look at the others.Did see Er's and History Of Rock and Roll,Sorry that's all I remember.

Not sure if you are talking about me because I'm not sure which other DVDtalkers live in the upstate SC area, but if you are talking about me, you're welcome!

Also, were those the only sets left at Cedar Springs? When I was there yesterday the shelves were stocked full of all different sets..

Re: Big Lots Part 4

went to 4 big lots today in nh and mass

methuen, ma had probably the best selection

superfriends legendary season 1
superfriends 2 pack
wait til your father gets home
joey season 1,
oc,
lots of dukes of hazzard
night court, pinky's and animaniacs and friends
thundercats season 2 complete (1 copy or 2)
nip tuck s4 blu-ray

derry, nh, not too much, lots of dukes of hazzard, superman season 1, and a few other titles. thundercats season 1 part 2 or something like that. I picked up the last sam kinison there.

danvers, ma west wings, dukes, joey's I think some dallas

lynn, ma (and I found my way back out)
history of rock and roll, nip tuck season 4 blue ray,
dukes of hazzard, night courts, joey, lakers

so, in MA, this is the first wave and if you like dukes of hazzard and dallas you are going to do okay.

No luck with wonder woman or smallville.

I have not checked fitchburg, ma, maybe they have some in, now.

Can anyone on the west coast or florida tell me if they are getting more stuff in after the initial wave?

Actually it was my fiance that talked to the forumer; he said he found out about the deal on this forum and asked what she was looking for (Animaniacs). We found out about the deal on Slickdeals.

There were quite a few other sets but I've only seen those two particular sets at that one store. I seem to recall them having the Blu-ray Smallville too. I know the N Pine St. store had it.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Yesterday(07/09/09), I picked up from the Huber Heights, OH store:

For $6.00 each-
Joey Complete First Season
Nightmares & Dreamscapes ("8 mind-bending stories")
The store had plenty(6+) copies of the above titles on the wire racks.

For $3.00 each-
King Kong (1933, two-disc SE) They also had the 1 disc version for sale.
That's Entertainment (30th anniv digital transfer, both Wide/Fullscreen)
Kissin' Cousins (Elvis, Widescreen enhanced. Back of DVD claims new digital transfer)
Harum Scarum (Elvis, Widescreen enhanced. Doesn't claim new transfer but has same front cover design format as other Elvis DVD above)
The Naked Spur (James Stewart. Maltin's movie guide starts entry of this movie with "One of the best Westerns ever made...)
Chisum (John Wayne, Widescreen enhanced)

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Went to a larger biglots today and got:
Drew Carey show S1 $6
MPD Psycho (Takashi Miike) $3

PC Game Loki:"Heroes of Mythology" $6 - not really my thing, but it was in a metal case and the only copy they had, so I figured what the hell.
No "Roots", although they had "Roots:the next Generation"
No Bluray or any of the 2-disc SEs previously mentioned.

I went back to the small BigLots near me and it didn't have much new, other than what I mentioned in my last post. I guess they are holding out until Sunday.
