Re: Big Lots Part 4

My area has been flooded with Wonder Woman the Complete Series. We Big Lot fans know that some geographical areas get more of a particular title than other regions. My region (SF Bay Area) does not have any Thunder Cats.

I have purchased a boatload of Wonder Woman the Complete Series (don't worry I left a boatload as well), strictly to trade with fellow DVD Talkers, one for one on the DVD Talk trading forum but have been disappointed in the response. I guess many of us enjoy the hunt, more than the trade.

I pretty much have everything out there with the exception of the Thunder Cats, so if your area is rich in Thunder Cats and poor in everything else, please check out the Big Lots trading forum, lets make a deal, especially if your Sunday (when we are all expecting the big Bonanza) leaves you short your favorite series.

no, sorry, this was the animated series. If you are in Derry, though, try to find a newbury comics, or call one, there's definitely one in Salem. The Bulrington, MA store had some george reeves' superman sets on their "wicked cheap dvd's" end cap for $9.99 each. They also had lois and clark and some batman animated seasons. I did a double-take because 9.99 seemed pretty cheap.

Regarding SUPERFRIENDS.... I've seen SEASON 1 mentioned as being a BL find and also "VOLUME 2." Is that the second season or were they broken up in different DVD set incarnations over the years?

I have some individual I SPY volumes I would trade for SUPERFRIENDS. Haven't been able to unload those I SPY's anywhere, LOL.

I've been going to Big Lots WAAAAY too much lately. :)

But this allowed me to post some extras on the trade list for those interested...

Thanks. $9.99 is a great price, but I'll hold off.

I was just thinking maybe, possibly, hopefully...we'll see more Warner Brothers TV sets in the future months after this current wave drys up.

I bought all the Dallas seasons and inside there is a pamphlet, brochure of other WB titles like Superman, The Waltons, F-Troop, Gilligan's Island, and CHiPS.

Makes me wonder if we'll see those in future Big Lots bins, too?

The big lots I've been to (SoCal) have run out of everything except Joey the complete series and maybe the Scooby Movies vol. 1 almost immediately. Seems like people have been picking those shelves clean (probably for trading or selling at Second Spin). When I asked about more coming in, they said once they're gone that'll pretty much be it.

I'm lookin for Nip/Tuck season 4 Bluray if anyone has a spare and the complete Wonder Woman (which I had not even seen on the shelves). I've got Smallville sason 7 BR, Puinky and the brain, Animaniacs for trade. Thanks

They're out in Sacramento- I typed up what I found but then one of my cats ran across the keyboard and messed the post up, so I'll just say most stores have West Wing Season 2 and Season 1 of Knots Landing. Only Blu I saw was Smallville Season 7 at the Northgate store, they had 1 left after I bought one. Got the last Roots there, they still have several of Next Generation and also the LA Lakers set if anyone cares about that, and History of Rock & Roll which is also plentiful on Fair Oaks Blvd and La Riviera/Watt. Most stores have tons of Dukes of Hazzard Seasons 5 and 6, I got the only copy of #2. Stockton Blvd had about 3 copies of 3 seasons of Samurai Jack shrinkwrapped together for 6 bucks, but I passed on those since I got the Samurai Jack movie at 99 Cents Only stores and it doesn't look like something I'll want to have every episode of, so I left them for someone who'll appreciate them more. You're welcome :)

As far as Wonder Woman goes, which I wanted, I just found Season 3 by itself, so I bought one but will keep it sealed in case I find the complete set later on. Did Big Lots get the complete set with the big outer box, or is it just the 3 sets shrinkwrapped together?

I'll be retired before I've watched all of these, and I gotta go back and get some more shelves after I have some more money!

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Well, they finally started to get these in at the two nearest Big lots to me. The closer location (Portland, ME), had more variety, but not the sets I was looking for. They had...
Wonder Woman - S2, 3 - but no 1 or Complete series (which I wanted)
The O.C. - S2
Nip Tuck S4 - Blu Ray
Dallas S1,3, 5
LA Lakers set
NFL sets (random, sets)
Pinky & The Brain Vol.2
Animaniacs Vol.2, 3
Smallville S4
Smallville S7 -Blu-ray
Dukes Of Hazard - various seasons
Friends S3,5, 7
Six Feet Under - S3
Night Court S1
Nightmares and Dreamscapes (tons of this)
Roots - 30th
Roots - Next Generation
West Wing - S2 (tons of this)
Joey -S1
Knots Landing S1
Scooby-Doo (bunch of different stuff)
Super Friends V2

The next closest one (Windham, ME), had far less selection, but they did have many copies of The History Of Rock & Roll, which was the one other set I really wanted. Other than that, they had...

Animaniacs Vol.2, 3
Pinky & The Brain Vol.2
Super Friends - V1, V2
Super Friends - Legendary Super Powers
NFL sets (random, sets)
The O.C. - S2
Joey - S1
Roots - Next Generation

Also noticed that I started seeing some of these exact same titles - mainly the TV series sets (Friends, The O.C., ER and other WB titles) - popping up recently in Newburry Comics stores (on sale for $7.99 to $9.99) and in FYE ($14.99), too. They must all be getting them from the same source.

I can't speak for the two football titles, but more than one person has found (and grabbed) Smallville S6 on BD, including me...it does seem to be much more rare than S7, but ALL Big Lots deals are EXTREMELY hit and miss...I went to seven different stores the other day and each one was VERY different in terms of what box sets they carried....some didn't have jack, while others were loaded with good stuff....

Still no TV DVD boxsets at all. A cashier told me that they would be ready tomorrow, without mentioned which titles available.

Anyway saw some limited quantities of Scooby Doo 2 pack, Superfriends 2 pack, and Wait Until Your Father Home Gets Home Season 1.

Not totally sure, but there are at least three different series of Super Friends dvds I've seen at BL so far. A couple are divided up into series and the other appears to be volumes.
Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show (The Complete Series)
Super Friends (Volume 2) - I have not found Volume 1, From the wording on the back, I assume these are collections, not full seasons...?

Different stuff on Season 1 and Volume 2... There actually are quite a few different Superfriends titles not a a typical Season 1, 2, 3 numbering, all with different content.

I won't be able to get there tomorrow due to work, but if one of you locals finds any Animaniacs, Wonder Woman, or SB sets there, I'd buy/trade one of each from you. I'm particularly anxious to revisit Wonder Woman, a favorite of my youth.

North Raleigh, NC store on bus. 64 - motherlode of ER, Dallas, Nip/Tuck, Night Court, Animaniacs, Pinky & Brain and Roots Next Generations.

Raleigh, NC near NC State - no ER's, but did have most of the other titles.

Cary, NC - no ER's, not many of the other titles, but did find 5-Disc "History of Rock n Roll" - has that been spotted anywhere else? Also had Right Stuff and Wild Bunch 2-discers.

Any sightings of Roots 30th anywhere else in North Carolina?

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Titles were out by 3:30pm here. I scored:

Drew Carey - S1
Friends - S3, S5, S9
Blade The Series (last/only copy)
Dallas - S1/2, S3 (they had other seasons but these were all I was interested in)
Babylon 5 The Movie Collection (!!! The one I wanted most and didn't expect to find !!!)

They had almost everything except Roots, other seasons of Friends, and *no* Wonder Woman at all. The checker who was watching out for that one for me as well as the other checker on duty confirmed they had not seen any Wonder Woman seasons.

It's possible they had other seasons of Friends earlier in the day as these had been out since the store opened this morning.

There were 2 different versions of "Dallas S1/2". One was 5 keepcases shrinkwrapped together and the other is the digipak version.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

And now for my rant on multi-disc set packaging and such: First of all, those overlapping-disc packs are just plain retarded. If I'm going to play the disc that's under, what am I supposed to do with the disc on top in the meantime??? If I put it back in the case, I'll just have to take it out again when I put the other disc back.

I've always preferred 2-sided discs to multiple single-sided ones, though I know some don't like them. If nothing else, this reduces the need to have a stupid case design, but NOW it seems like the manufacturers have gotten lazy and stopped putting ANY sort of printing on the second side of 2-sided discs! The biggest complaint about 2-siders has always been that there isn't enough printed info on them, and now they want to cut what little there is in HALF by only printing on one side??? The "Roots" discs are like this- Disc 2 says "ROOTS Disc 2 Reverse side episode 4"- so which episode is on the side that's facing up? The 4th disc of "Next Generations" has material only on one side, but still just has printing in the center, so you can't really tell if there's anything on the second side of that or not. I assume there isn't since I just put it in my computer's drive and it kept spinning without finding anything. Universal's Spike Lee set was like that too.

Since HD-DVD died I've been collecting the combo-format discs and have all of them now except for about 3- NONE of those have any printing on the 2nd side (with the standard DVD content) either! Is it REALLY that much trouble now to print on both sides of the disc?

Got that off my chest, now back to the topic. And I'm sure I'll buy any other titles that show up if I want them and they're cheap enough, even if it's 10 single-sided discs (with minimal printing on them) on a stack or something stupid like that.

All stores in the SF Valley are gutted.
