Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Don't know if anyone here is into Forensic Files (truTV series), but I found 4 of their DVDs (12 episodes each) at Walmart in a cardboard bin for $5 apiece. They list for $16.96, Amazon has them for $11.78 ea., so $5 isn't a bad price for them.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_8?url=search-alias%3Dmovies-tv&field-keywords=forensic+files&sprefix=Forensic%2Cmovies-tv%2C292

I found Crimes of Passion, Kidnapping Cases, Medical Mysteries, and Serial Killers.

Wal-Mart now has their Halloween end-caps out (at least mine did); I found Scream Factory's "Day Of The Dead" special edition (DVD with slipcover), fifteen bucks. I paid twenty-two plus change for mine from Amazon which arrived today; a week late.

My local Wal-mart has five Halloween endcaps. Never before seen so many horror titles at Walmart. They have other Scream Factory titles like Halloween 2, The Fog, The Funhouse, The Burning, and Terror Train on the other endcaps.

They each had different prices. Don't remember but I believe they were all in the $15-$18 range. I only saw DVD versions. No blu-rays.

I doubt Wal-Mart will sell many at that price point.

There are two stores in my location; one has two the other has one. Looks like you hit the Scream Factory jackpot.

Yeah but I want blu-ray versions at those prices. Like Josh stated, they won't sell at that price. The average consumer just wants the movie for cheap. On the endcap with Scream Factory's Halloween 2, they have a $5 Anchor Bay version of the original Halloween right next to it. That will sell, the sequel won't. So no Scream Factory version of Halloween at this location. Most of the other horror titles on the endcaps were in the $5 to $7.50 range, those Scream Factory prices stand out.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I feel the same way you do about wanting the Blu-Ray versions at those prices. I was there today and honestly their prices were shit. They mostly had the same titles that they did last year, such as the Children Of The Corn and Hellraiser sets. I'm not expecting them to carry Criterion titles, but even 3 or 4 years ago they had a better selection of horror movies around this time of year. The prices were good too.

And a lot more TV series from the 80's, like 2-3 Seasons of MacGyver for $9.96.
Do you happen to know if they have Entourage S7? Or was S8 the only season they had in store?

I'm sorry, I missed seeing your post. They didn't have S7 unfortunately, I would have liked to pick that Season up for this price too.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Along with the selection of Mill Creek multi sets that jbeeching mentions in post #1913, the Fall River, Mass. location has quite a few new additions to the $5 price point. Most of these originally showed up in the dump bin, while the others were displayed in special Halloween sections. As in any Wal-Mart, you never know WHERE you're going to find these hiding in the store from day-to-day. The first group I'm about to list was found one day, and the follow-up post will be what I found just a few days later...

Abduction.......(Taylor Lautner version)
The Awakening
The Baytown Outlaws
Centurion
The Collector
Company of Heroes
The Darkest Hour
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Grave Encounters
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Honey We Shrunk Ourselves
Immortals
Man on a Ledge
October Baby
Shark Night
That's My Boy
The Three Musketeers.....(Logan Lerman version)
The Three Stooges: The Movie

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Now most of the ones above have made it to the dump bin, and a new small cardboard rectangular dump style display has been added that contains the following...

The Abduction of Jesse Bookman
The Appeared
Expiration
Fire With Fire
The Host...2-disc Collectors Edition w/slipcover
Lockout
The Objective
Profile of a Killer
Return to Sleepaway Camp
Shrooms
The Signal...with holographic slipcover
Soldiers of Fortune
Splinter...with slipcover

...almost forgot to mention. There was also a handful of multi-sets in there. Mostly horror themed ones that I don't recall. Two that stuck out were Roger Corman's collections.

At least at the WM by my house, it would literally take about 2 hours per bin to go through them. They're too large to be useful.

Unless I'm just doing a quick scan of the top layer I tend to use my old method. Take a cart and start piling titles in it. Once I'm done, leave the cart, and walk away. But even that's a pain so I typically only bother every 6-8 weeks or so *if* a very good title has been spotted and I can't get it for roughly the same price elsewhere.

Yes, this is the most effective method. Otherwise, you are dealing with avalanches. If everyone was doing this, at some point, they would get sick of putting the dvds from the cart into the bin and figure out a better way.

Seconded. It's a great little monster movie with protagonists who aren't complete idiots, for a change.
