Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Ahoy all,

I have a question.
I noticed that my Wal-Mart had a veritable asston of DVD/Bluray combo packs. They had Muppets Take Manhatten. My question is: Are these cheap, barebones releases? It only had a couple special features, but I'm not sure if there's a special edition to begin with that would have more.

It's just that I've heard some DVD's were ported to Bluray and the picture quality was almost the same, so it wouldn't be worth getting. I don't have a Bluray player yet, but obviously I don't want to buy a DVD and a Bluray in a pack that are the same in terms of quality.

How much was Muppets Take Manhattan? That one only has one version.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Hey all,

New to the forums so just saying hello.

I will be most active in this thread as well as the Big Lots thread where I already introduced myself.

Been buying out of the $5 bin since Walmart started to get serious about it and keep it stocked with new titles often.

Some titles tend to be real short-packed around my way but I've always been able to find what I want.

I tend to purchase wrestling/mma dvds from the piles. Nothing makes my day like a freshly stocked bin.

Has Wal-Mart done away with Site-to-Store shipping on their movies? I've used this service a lot, but I've noticed a very sharp decrease in what's available for their STS service.

Daaaaaaaayum, Lord of the Rings Extended Bluray for $45? (I'm in Canada.)
I really wish I had a Bluray player. I might even get this if I have any Christmas money on Boxing Day. Is the quality of it really good? I've heard bad things about the theatrical cut, but how is the 15-disc Bluray thinger? It doesn't have any new extras that the DVDs didn't, right?

Looked up a couple of DVDs there but didn't see the familiar Site To Store anywhere so you may be right. Hopefully it's just a "too near to Christmas" thing and it will get reinstated after the holidays. If not, if they've done away with Site To Store on DVDs, then I think we need to email Walmart en masse and ask them to reconsider. -kd5-

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I can't believe with all the efficiency in the Wal-mart system that they use Fed-Ex or any other carrier to ship their DVDs to the store. It seems they would have in place the mechanism to get the DVDs to the stores using their own trucks.

Was going to place an order for a set, but passed because of the inability to have the DVD shipped site-to-store. They also lost some sales during BF because of the same reason.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Wal-Mart will be carrying select DVD's and Blu-ray's with up to $7.50 Movie Cash redemption for Warner Bros theatrical releases (such as Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Happy Feet 2, and J. Edgar). It should be an assortment of WB titles. The DVD's are $4 and the Blu's $8. Some titles pictured for DVD include The Wizard of Oz, The Hangover, and The Blind Side. Expect more variety in store but YMMV.

The Blu-ray's featured included Sherlock Holmes, Inception, The Matrix, The Book of Eli, 300, and The Shawshank Redemption.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

So much for Walmart's Black Friday, I picked up the Wizard of Oz DVD on BF for $5 thinking that was a pretty good deal. Now, just a month later they have it on sale for $4. That's kind of a pisser offer. -kd5-

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

On the site-to-store issue, apparently site-to-store shipping has been reinstated. Curious, since I found this out on the same day they emailed me a statement that movies in all their media formats were ineligible for said shipping option. So, I ordered 15 movies with a gift card, with site-to-store shipping. Just in case ...

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Two of the Walmarts nearby had cardboard dumpbins of various Mill Creek Multi-sets for $2.50 each set... I had a good portion of the ones they already had; from memory they had...

* Bonanza - 34 episode set
* Thirtysomething - First 10 Episodes
* Wanted: Dead or Alive - Season One; Set One
* Dungeouns & Dragons
* Clash of the Olympians - 16 movie set
* Fists of Vengeance (the re-titled "Martial Arts 20 Movie Pack" missing 4 titles)
* The Greatest American Hero Season One
* He-Man - First Season set
* Renegade
* 21 Jump Street- First Season
* The Bill Cosby Show- Best of set
* The Best of Johnny Carson & Friends

...plus some other kids titles. I know one was kinda picked thru like it had been out; the second store's was very neat & full, like they had put it out recently

In the $5 dump bin I saw a few copies of Hey Vern: It's Ernest: The Complete Series which has 13 episodes on it according to the back cover.

Would like to see that $2.50 bargain bin and the Earnest dvd set.

Was the super bargain bin near the normal dvd area?

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Finally found that Earnest dvd set today.

The sticker on it was different from the ones usually placed on the Bargain Bin dvds.
