Damn...I own a professionally calibrated 1080i RP CRT (Mits 65413) with only component and can barely stand watching DVD anymore. With BD players so cheap, I don't know how you do it.

If that comment was aimed at me, the answer is: Easy. I'm perfectly happy with my DVDs and my DVD player. I don't understand why nobody can understand that. -kd5-

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Not that I'd ever want to take kd5's side, but I think one good reason to continue buying DVDs is the fact that there are likely thousands of titles that have been released on DVD that will never make the upgrade to Blu because it simply wouldn't be worth the cost to the studio.

/\ True, but don't let that deter you; those DVDs will still play on your BR player.

I couldn't agree more. Some of the best DVD players also play Blu-Ray's.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Also true, which is why I will probably finally get a BR player sometime this year. My initial plan was to make the switch to Blu when a total switch would be possible (all new releases, including TV seasons, being available on Blu, plus a sizable back catalog available), but since that looks to still be a ways off, I might as well make the switch sooner rather than later.

Where are you, I've never seen this title in any of my local Walmarts (I'm in Honolulu) ? This seems so far from anything I've ever seen Walmart carry, I'm in a state of disbelief.

Just as an FYI, it's not really porn. Every Walmart I've been to that that carries comedies on DVD has/had this title.

That's a separate issue from not adopting Blu-ray at all, though. I prefer CD's to digital downloads, for instance, and given the choice I'll pick the physical format every time. But if I'm not given a choice, I'm pro-physical, not anti-digital and I'll buy the digital version because I want the content in my library.

I don't disagree at all. If you click on the collection link in my sig, you'll see that I have thousands (yes, thousands) of DVDs that won't ever see a BD release. When I really want to see a movie that's only on DVD, that's what I do. However, with so many choices available, lately I almost always grab a movie on BD instead. I was more just commenting on my exactly opposite feeling of being OK with DVD and it being good enough. Even for movies I really enjoy, if I'm watching on DVD I keep thinking it should be better. For what it's worth, I can't watch SD television any more either. The occasional live sporting event if I have no other choice (come on Comcast, hurry up with FSC HD already!).

For anyone who hasn't upgraded due to finances, I 95% agree. The other 5% would be with BD players so inexpensive now, I think to actually buy a new DVD player (I'm not referring to maintaining current equipment) would be a mistake. If you bargain shop, you can find many releases where the BD is actually cheaper than the DVD and recoup any extra money you may have spent. I apologize for going off topic, but many of those bargain BDs that are cheaper than the DVD equivalent can be found in this very thread (does that make it almost on topic? )

my copy artcover it say "Zack and Miri" without "Make a Porno". I don't mind the without "Make a Porno" in the cover. but open title in the movie say "Zack and Miri Make a Porno".

It always struck me as weird that the edited Z & M cover has a racier tagline than the non-edited cover.

I love how the upper right hand blurb is dirtier on the edited cover than the unedited cover.

Out of curiosity, anyone have DVDs shipped from Walmart to home? What'd be the cost for, say, two single DVDs?

My shipping estimate comes to $1.97 each (whenever it doesn't say .97 shipping).

Thanks!
Was thinking of procuring Ernest triple feature for $5, as they're all widescreen for the first time on DVD.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

^I find it interesting that WM shows this to be a "pre-order" with a 4/1/11 ship date while it's currently available from amazon. The amazon price is $6.99 but can ship free with prime or a $25+ order. There's also no site-to-store shipping option which kills a WM purchase IMHO. This is also a 2-disk Mill Creek re-issue in their new paper sleeve in a amaray case type packaging.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Yes, I was curious about that preorder listing--also with Ernest complete series set, both of which had a street date of January 11th and are available elsewhere. Wondering if someone got confused, as the street date for the BluRay of feature set is indeed March. Hmm.
Yes, familiar with Mill Creek packaging, but price generally makes up for it (got first season of 'Sklk Stalkings' and Sam Kinison complete concert set for $3 each this past year).

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I was in a hurry so I didn't get a definitive list but my local WM now has a bunch of new TV on DVD sets on sale. Standing out were a few Hogan's Heroes seasons as well as seasons 1-5 of The Andy Griffith Show for $10 each!

I saw Futurama Vol. 1-4 for $12.00 each, most of the South Park seasons and Buffy S6 and S7 for I believe $14.96 each.

Sweet on the Andy Griffith ones...need a few seasons of those to complete the series.

Thanks for the "heads up" on TAGS! I'd recently put that on the "get soon" list and was awaiting a good deal - this is it! Only downside is both stores here have only S1 & S3 with S2 & S4 MIA. They have space for 'em but no copies. Oddly enough, both stores had exactly the same number copies of S1 & S3 until I made my purchase.
