Shoot, I'd bite on the Belvedere set. Thanks for the heads-up on that.

Hasslein, those are all marked $5.00 at the Wal Mart here. Are they ringing up at $2.50?

Yes, I bought Jack Benny & Olympians, marked $2.50 & rang up $2.50.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Include these:
Amazing War Machines
Spirited Killer Trilogy
Best of Howdy Doody
Best of Triumph
Daybreak Complete
A spattering of 4 Movie sets from echo bridge
Fists of Vengeance
Best of He-Man (2002)
Hunter Season 1
Sonny Chiba Collection
They seem to be adding more every day.
This stuff at $2.50 is a steal. I personally think there is no argument point, but that's me.

Checked out the 2/$5 selection at Hermitage, PA today, they had most everything bmvtoys mentioned including some 4-movie SciFi selections but ultimately walked away empty-handed. Can't bring myself to spend $$$ on just anything, it's gotta be something I really want and I didn't really want any of them. -kd5-

Probably an unanswerable question but: Why do the idiots at WalMart heap the DVDs up into a mound in the $5 bin to the point where if you picked one up to look at it, 15 of them would slide down the heap and onto the floor? Do they think that's funny? Do they get a perverse pleasure from someone else's discomfort? Will bitching about it resolve anything? Probably not, but it makes me feel better...:gah: -kd5-

When they do that at my store, anything that hits the floor while I'm browsing, stays on the floor.

I've wondered the same thing as I rout through the pile. I suspect it sells better if people think the DVD is SO cheap it can be thrown in a heap, rather than nicely displayed on a shelf - which many $5 videos are also displayed that way too. Weird.

Over time, the stores I visit have gone from a single dump bin, to two dump bins, to eliminating dump bins and stacking everything in order on shelves, to back to dump bins again with some titles on shelves separately. In the beginning, dump bins were kinda fun. Now, I don't even bother.

I agree. If there was a section of $5.00 DVDs where you could easily scan the titles, I would check it out every time. However, in the stores I've been in recently, they either have them mixed in with other titles or in the giant overflowing bin. I used to think it was fun digging to the bottom for that one copy of something that "might" be down there. However, with Blu Ray coming down and Big Lots at the $3 price point, it isn't even worth my time unless someone posts something really special. That hasn't happened in a very long time. Honestly, I'm even getting sick of going to Big Lots and looking through their boxes since most are creeping up to the $5 or $6 price point. When Walmart drops their price point to 2 for $5, then you'll see me back there again in full force.

I just skim the surface layer. No way am I going to try to dig down very deep. My theory on why they heap the bins so high with product that you've no place to move items as you dig is: The store gets X quantity of product and the minions are instructed to pile them all into the bin. Do you think they really care if browsing the bin is easy or not?

I find plenty of "odd" items in the bin as well: Candles, cutting boards, magazines, McDonalds bags of food, kitchen utensils, used rubber gloves, CDs, Blue Rays, DVD greater than $5 - I'm afraid someday I'll find a used hypodermic needle! But the biggest offense is when the Spanish language bin gets mixed with English!

Add to these
Princess collection (4 or 5 Disney ripoffs)
?? collection (3 or 4 Disney ripoffs including Hunchback)
<b>Wiseguy S1 V1</b>
<b>Renegade S1 V1</b>
<b>Hollywood Vs. the Mob</b>
<b>Vegas the City the Mob Made</b>
<b>Shirley Temple & Friends</b>
<b>Great Indian Wars</b>
Best of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (one I saw was a floater)

Picked up about 9 of these (mostly docs), but will return Wiseguy and Renegade for complete series sets.

The Echo Bridge 4 movie collections were 5.00. Be careful and check the price of any non-Millcreek titles in the section. Some are still 5.00, some are 2.50.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I actually saw 2-3 people digging in the dump bin today when I went in for:

"Bewitched" - S3/S4 2-pack for $19.96

This store also had a "Bewitched" S7/S8 2-pack for $19.96. I didn't see any other seasons of this show and was very suprised there was no S5/S6 2-pack.

I also found:

"Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict" - S1 for $10.00

and:

"Farscape" - S1, S2, S3 for $14.96 each with S4 showing $19.96 on the shelf tag. The total for all 4 seasons is in line with what the entire set goes on sale for fairly regularly.

I've been on a Bewitched kick lately...got Seasons 4 and 5 from Target for $8.99 each. May grab 7 & 8 from here.

The Troy/Brunswick NY store also had Seasons 1 & 2, but the colorized versions. Ick.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Picked up an Echo Sci-Fi 4 pack and JCVD for 2/$5.

They have a $5 wall at my Wal-Mart but it does differ a bit from the bin. Also the bin is like an adult toy, it gets you interacting with the products and when you find something you might like you are more likely to buy it now that you "found it".

Unfortunately yes some employees will overstuff the bin. It happens with every item wal-mart sells. The night crew stocks it and then the day crew has to make it look like they are doing something so they stuff the leftovers (at least thats how it happened when I used to work there).

Also @yellowIt4 that is really a dick move.

I think I saw 2 packs for all the seasons, though the S1/S2 was color :(

They just got the Naked Gun box in, that had been OOP for some time, for $13. Another good deal is the Andy Griffith 50th collection for $15.

updated 2.50 list.
some of these were in in the dump bin. I checked every Echo Bridge and Mill Creek title I saw in the dump bin. I didn't really dig, but every Mill Creek set I checked was 2.50 except Alfred Hitchcock and Victory at Sea. The Echo Bridge titles were 50/50. Bought a bunch but will probably return a bunch after I see if they are any good.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Though this isn't a bargain, it's Walmart related and I'm not sure where better to post this. In the past couple years I've returned a few things I bought with manufacturer's coupons when I found them cheaper somewhere else within the return period (since Walmart never pricematches after the sale is done).

I tried returning something at Walmart a couple days ago and this time they made a big deal about the manufacturer coupon. When the register said to give me back what I paid plus the coupon, both employees at customer service said "that's not right... we need to call a manager to override this so you only get back what you paid". In effect, Walmart would be pocketing the cash from the coupon instead of me. By all rights, the manufacturer should get the cash back or they should reissue the coupon, but they don't provide a mechanism for that, so given that somebody is going to keep it I'd rather have it be me than Walmart. The previous times I never had a problem with them giving me back what the register said. So I said "never mind... I think I'll just keep it" and left.

Is this a new Walmart policy or were these employees just ignorant? What should I do or say to them when this happens?

Pretty sure it was just those particular employees.
