Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
I saw an item on PBS's The Business News that Wallymart would be opening the BF sales at midnight. Not clear if that means all or some stores.

Don't forget - walmart is doing things a bit different this year, there is a "midnight sale" that kicks off before the doorbusters go on sale at 5:00 am. All DVDs and blu-rays (and video games) can be bought at midnight, so if those are all you are wanting, there is no need to be there for the 5:00 am sale when big ticket items like TVs, computers and the like go on sale. So for movies and games, plan on being in store around 10:00 or 11:00 pm and get ready to grab at midnight!
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Nov. 15, 2010 Walmart (NYSE: WMT) announced today that most stores will open their doors at midnight* to welcome families who want to get an early start on Christmas shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving and avoid standing in the cold waiting for stores to open. Starting at 12 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26th*, shoppers can head to the Walmart Open House for big savings on popular toys, apparel and home goods. Then, beginning at 5 a.m., Walmart will kick off its electronics event, including incredible prices on HDTVs, laptops, gaming systems and cameras. Customers can find pricing updates by becoming a fan on Facebook at facebook.com/Walmart or by visiting Walmart.com starting tomorrow.
New for this year, Walmart is inviting customers to come at midnight for great savings on items like toys, pajamas, denim and small kitchen appliances and then stay for incredibly low prices on hot electronics, like HDTVs, computers and video games at five a.m., said Stephen Quinn, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Walmart U.S. Giving families easier ways to save is important and offering great savings in our stores earlier this year starting at midnight is one way to make that happen.
Walmart continues to work closely with electronics suppliers, in particular, to secure some of the strongest allocations of products that will be top-sellers among customers. This seasons holiday inventory is packed with some of the most sought after brands from pajamas and denim in apparel to HDTVs, laptops and GPS devices in consumer electronics. Below is an example of the best savings of the season.
In-Store Electronics Savings Starting at 5:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 26 while supplies last:

I'll pick up The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Fight Club and Superbad on Blu-Ray, but I'm sure my list will expand once all the titles are revealed (especially those $12 TV on DVD sets).

I, for one, do *not* want to wander about WM for 5 hours waiting to check out.

Not necessarily...
Nothing said about the registers being open, just the doors. The past few years the doors have been open and you could fill your basket with anything but the "5AM DoorBusters" but you could not check out until 5AM.

This is from a walmart employee who posted over at gottadeal, check it out, they have listings and pics of what every major store will have for sale on black friday - http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/
"...Hey everyone,
I've been reading through the posts on here and there are a ton of repeat questions regarding WM BF this year. I'm going to try and sum it up here the best I can and hopefully we can reduce some board clutter.
Walmart this year announced an "Open House" which starts at midnight. This is much different than years past.
If you read the ad there are "5am Doorbusters" and items that start at 12:01am.
Walmart is opening most of its stores at midnight (if they're not already open) for this sale. As a BF shopper, you can walk into WM after midnight and buy any of the "midnight sale" items at that time. There is no need to wait around until 5am to pay for them. You're free to do whatever you'd like after midnight. The only thing you cannot do is buy the 5am doorbusters. WM will have staffing available for you to purchase items after midnight, so don't worry.
As for the doorbusters. There will be numbered balloons with associates near them throughout the store where each doorbuster is being passed out. Look for "Line-up here" type signs for those items. Each item corresponds with a specific inventory number/wristband. At 5am those in line with the wristbands will receive the item they hae a wristband for.
As for store operating hours. All WM stores will be open at midnight. There are some stores that never close, so they will be open. There are some stores that close for Thanksgiving, they will open at midnight. However, with that being said, you need to check with your local store for its hours. Some states have weird and quirky laws about store opening times. Make sure you check with your local store manager to find out for sure.
Walmart.com has a map that you can print out that will tell you where the 5am items will be located. Check that out before you go.
To sum it up:
*Midnight sale items can be purchased ANYTIME after midnight.
*5am items, can only be purchased at 5am.
*Check with your local store for operating hours...."

^Thanks for the clarification! That *might* make a midnight trip worth the effort.
I've used blackfriday.gottadeal.com some but don't care for their overall layout as they only list items with separate scans for each and do not have the full ad scan available (at least I've never found them there). I never read the forums on the various BF sites.

That seems a little hard to believe because (1) it would require a lot of extra employees to be guarding every doorbuster item (normally they are just wrapped up with a security guard standing within "eyeshot" of several wrapped displays) and (2) those who come at 5am might find they end up with nothing if all of the balloons have been passed out after midnight.
Given that I'm mainly looking for movies and games, I'll definitely be there at midnight to get that stuff out of the way. The real question is this... will everyone else be there at midnight too (meaning all this will accomplish is shift the mad rush earlier by 5 hours) or will this make things calmer?

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
The Walmart here in Trooper, PA just set up a new end-cap of $7.50 Vampire & Werewolf movies. Most notably (at least in my opinion) was "The Howling / Howling 2" double feature set. Not sure if this is something all Walmarts have up at the moment so its might be YMMV.

Question - Does Walmart.com usually have the Black Friday deals too? Will they have a bunch of Blu-Rays and DVDs for the same price as in-store when those sales start?

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
^ I don't believe they match the store BF DVD prices, but they did have a few good deals on their website last year anyway - like Buck Rogers: The Complete Series for under $8 shipped.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
I picked up a $20 gift card to use on Wal-Mart.com anticipating some sort of Cyber Monday deals. There is a Cyber Monday website up. But I hope it's meager listings for Wal-mart.com are way off as it's not much.
My Wal-mart was picked clean of $10 Blu-ray, Daffy Duck DVD, ect,. All gone. They still had all of those Batman: The Animated Series Volume 1 sitting there for $20 though. No one has touched them.
Wal-mart.com recently had all sorts of online deals. $5 multi-packs, Centennials, $10 Blu-Rays, and box sets on sale. All of that is gone now as well. Many of those are no longer even listed on their site.
Here's a good deal right now.
Breakfast At Tiffany's: Centennial Collection $10.46 Free Site-To-Store shipping!

^Thanks! It's still labeled on the shelf @ $20 here - and the shelf space with all the TVonDVD "bargain" titles has been emptied. The only TVonDVD left is the "recent release" spaces. There *were* shelf stickers for what's to be put in place but I didn't see anything that jumped out.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
I went to Wal-mart tonight and found the TV box set section changed. 80% of what was there was now gone. Newly added were ... The Jetsons: The Complete First Season, Yogi Bear: Complete Series, Tom & Jerry Spotlight Volumes 1-3, Scooby-Doo original season box set, Saved By The Bell seasons, Everybody Loves Raymond S1 & S2 together, Three Stooges Collection, and others I cannot recall (sorry). They also got in more Batman 1-4 on Blu-Ray. Still no sign of Bugs or Daffy.
Wal-mart.com note ... tons of DVDs are showing up as "Out of stock" or were completely removed from the site. Not looking good for Cyber Monday deals.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
I bought all three of them with no problem at all (though, I went though self check-out just to be safe)...
The Sopranos Season 1
Deadwood Season 1
Rome Season 1
Important note: All 3 of them have printed bar code stickers on the back of them. So to get the $12 black friday price...you have to have the one with the purple promo sticker on the front and a sticker over the bar code.

I thought the selection of both TV series and movies sucked this year...as did Target's.
Was kind of surprised to see "Gone With the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz" two disc special editions in the mix and debated getting both. Already have the most recent previous OZ box and GWTW has no special features beyond commentary. Still may go for for GWTW.

I go the following $1.96 titles
The Happening
The Box
Observe & Report
The Princess Bride: 20th Anniversary Collection
The displays were all mixed up and there were piles of DVDs atop the displays. Mine still had tons of DVDs in the display, which surprised me.

Looking through the cheap DVDs this morning, I overhear the following words from a WM shopper...
"Have you seen (insert title here)? That was a crazy movie. At the end, you figure out that everyone dies."
