We're almost there. Players have been as cheap as $50, and decent players under $100 quite often. And with sales and coupons, my ~400 blu-rays have averaged about $7.
When people (occasionally) tell me they bought a new release DVD for about $15, I usually say "the BD is only a few dollars more" and they say "BD is still too expensive", and I say "no it isn't". |

How much was it? Was it the first 3 films of the series? I went to Walmart and the whole DVD section was being "remodeled" :-( |
Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
^If they did what was done here it may not be a bad thing. One store got a larger area for DVDs while the other stayed roughly the same. Better layouts with more TVonDVD titles. Back catalog is mainly $5, $9, $13 titles on a row with Blu, New, and TVonDVD on another. Just about 1/3 row for each "section". Then there are a couple of 4 sided displays between the 2 facing rows with kids and more Blu titles. For what I tend to purchase (TV mostly) it's been a good thing.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
Shopping in my Wal-Mart so I went to see if the dust had settled in the movie area. Weird. I'd say 90% of what was there before is gone. Yet, the DVD section is the same size. Only a few Blu-Ray's were put into the normal section. Quite a few empty shelves. But all new DVD restock. Both bargain bins were filled. But it was with all new stuff / copies all in mint condition. Meaning that all of their stock was shipped off somewhere. Rearranged DVD's. Horror end cap. $5 end cap (nothing but garbage like "Leave it to Beaver" full screen movie. Disney section was expanded as well as the cartoons. Now with Charlie Brown and lots of Barbie. In the TV box sets they got more copies of Rescue Rangers in but I saw three spots for Duck Tales with no copies in sight. They even had new employees back there. They were opening bored and even said out loud "There is nothing to do with this job. Should I dust or something?" Hmmm ...
Maybe the employees who were so rude that day were all being canned? Will all of those DVD's end up at Big Lots that vanished? Will they change it all again next month? Anyway I spotted ... The Persuaders: 3 Film Collection - 3-Disc set. I've never heard of this one but it's $5 and stars Roger Moore. A rather "Bond"-like cover too. Cartoon Classics Fun Pack: Dennis the Menace/Sabrina/Groove Squad/Archies $5 The Pebble And The Penguin/Rock-A-Doodle $5 I saw some classics too like Cary Grant movies. Then some fat bald guy came up to me and just started going on about movies, TV shows, what needs to be on DVD ... it was weird. I might normally walk away or ignore him. But everything he said I was like "Yeah, I have that movie." "I remember that." or "I agree, they should release that." However, he ignored everything I said then vanished. Kinda creepy. So, babies crying, annoying staff, fat guys talking ... I guess when I get excited about looking through bargain bins and racks of movies ... bombs could go off and I wouldn't know. lol |

It's a fun series but you can typically pick up the entire run (2 sets with 23 episodes) for $30 or less online by waiting on sales or utilizing the amazon marketplace. Even though the cover appears "Bond"-like don't expect "Bond" escapades... it's more a adventure/detective type program with Tony Curtis and Roger Moore playing a couple of "playboy" types (one American, one Brit) who were thrown together by a retired judge who wants a second shot at criminals he's been obliged to let walk. There are reviews of the series here on DVDTalk. If you're curious about the series this can make an inexpensive introduction as long as you're aware of just what's inside the box. |
Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
I'm sorry about the lack of clarification in regards to my Puppetmaster post. It was $5 and it contains the first 3 movies. It's called Midnight Horror Collection: Puppet Master and you can see a listing for it on Amazon and I'm sure Walmart's website as a previous poster said.
Now the Amazon link says Platinum put this out, but it's actually an Echo Bridge title. I think Echo Bridge used to be Platinum though. It also mentions Full Moon on the back of the case, but I recall a thread here saying Echo Bridge was licensing some Full Moon titles or had acquired the rights to them all. Amazon also has a listing for the first 3 to be released separately by Echo Bridge. I wonder if they'll be releasing the rest. I still haven't opened this, but I do have some other Echo Bridge DVDs and the ones that contain 2 movies or more are double sided. I'm guessing the same holds true here, but I don't know for sure. |

Thanks LPPU, looks like I'll be volunteering to do the "grocery shopping" tomorrow.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
Turkey Creek, TN Super Wal-Mart = DVD Heaven! Isle after isle after isle of DVDs! I kept finding new sections and 4-sided display racks lost over in some corner. They had a whole long section of just Multi-packs. Two TV box set sections. Next to no Blu-Ray. But most shockingly of all was an end cap called "Feature Films" like an employee pick or something? Whatever, it was all anime! They had Gunslinger Girl: The Complete Series for $10!
I picked up for $10 each ... Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple: Season One: Part One Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple: Season One: Part Two Those are still around $50 each online! DVD Empire says the first one is discontinued/OOP. $10 each! I wish I could remember more of what I saw. But they just had so much. Off-topic for this forum ... I was shocked to see Super Mario action figures! Small, medium, very large, and plushes. I stuck to my DVD buying. But man it was hard to pass up a Shyguy action figure! |
Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
Found "Coming to America" for $5

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
^ Saw that Slipcovered Fantastic Four by the dozens.
I remembered a few I saw yesterday ... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles Forever! - 2010 animated movie. Already in the bargain bin for $5. Silverhawks: Season One - Volume One $19.96 Gilmore Girls: The Complete First Season $15 <- Saw this at multiple Wal-marts is why it stands out. I assume the one next to it is season two. But I could be wrong. Multi-feature: Behind Enemy Lines / Phonebooth / Speed $13 Speaking of those multi-features I have not seen this one in stores but it's a great Wal-mart.com deal. Free site-to-store shipping and only $5.86. Last Castle / Double Jeopardy / The General's Daughter Triple Feature (Widescreen) http://www.walmart.com/ip/13917813 I saw many of these multi-features in the store. They have more than one disc in them. 2 or 3 I am not sure. I am really considering this one ... Doris Day And Rock Hudson Comedy Collection: Pillow Talk / Lover Come Back / Send Me No Flowers (Widescreen) $12.46 http://www.walmart.com/ip/5765610 It's cheaper than buying each of the three movies individually. However, this is a 2-disc set with a flipper disc in there. Not sure if it has any extras either. Edit: I just remembered I saw tons of these in the bargain bin ... Batman Begins (1-disc WS version) A Nightmare On Elm Street 1-4 Finally ... Grumpy Old Men $5 Grumpier Old Men $5 Double Feature: Grumpy Old Men / Grumpier Old Men $9 - 1-disc flipper. Has new slipcover over the old DVD. |
Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
Picked up Australia for $4 and Fried Green Tomatoes for $5 earlier today.

No flipper disc - 'Lover Come Back' and 'Send Me No Flowers' are together on a single-sided disc. I picked this up for $8.xx a couple years back during a Universal sale at DD.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
I went to see if they were breaking street date on Tales from the Darkside S4 and saw that they're going to redo their special on-sale DVDs for the month. Expect the first four seasons of Moonlighting for $20 apiece, Prison Break (first two seasons bound together), and some Golden Girls stuff.

Almost bought Howard The Duck the other day but when I picked up the case I could tell it was one of those shitty eco-cases.

The case is solid, yet lightweight. I don't have a problem with these types of cases. It's the ones with the holes I dislike. |
Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
Those cases with holes in them are yet another reason why studios shouldn't be too surprised that DVD sales have been falling.
I just got the Puppet Master disc and haven't watched it yet, but the first 2 movies are crammed onto a single layer side with the 3rd movie on side 2. And as is par for the course these days, there's no printed label on side 2. |

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
Just spotted a few TV deals at my local Wallymart. Crossing Jordan S1 for $10, which I got. Also Tremors and Surface, each $10. Tempted to go back. Dead Zone S1 & 2, S3& S4, $15 each double pack. First tempting things I've seen at WM in a while.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2
found buried in the $5 bin, Lost Boys 2 disc Special Edition and Jake the Snake Roberts Pick Your Poison 2 disc.
also noticed a set of 4 horror movies on a budget dvd label. The only one of interest to me was Curtains, an 80s slasher movie that has never made it on dvd. I'm sure the quality isn't very good though. Does anyone have this? |
