Yes, the version I got is Widescreen (16x9). The dvd also features a feature length commentary with David Arquette and Rick Overton, Director/Co-Writer Ellroy Elkayem and Producer Dean Devlin and some other extras.

This new Warner/Sony wave of dvds is just starting to hit the stores. I have been to 4 stores, 2 did not have them, 1 had a 2 tray selection and the last one had a freestanding 4 sided display on a wooden pallet.

This new batch should be showing up at more Biglots nationwide very soon. So far, they have popped up in Ohio, California, North Carolina and the Pacific Northwest.

the one near me is in phillipsburg NJ. they usually get some decent stuff though i've never seen like the woody allen box sets or anything like that. but they usually have a majority of the titles i see posted here. though sadly they have not gotten this new batch yet which i am really waiting for. i plan on checking them again this sunday. truffout, kubrick, lang. you can't pass that up.

Closest Big Lots to me is the Aston, PA location and they did not have the new stock yet. Hopefully next week!

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I can't wait to get my hands on this new shipment. I'm going to spend a bunch. A 20% off coupon would come in handy right about now. I don't know why the studios are blowing out these titles but I'm glad they are.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I picked these up:

Stranger than Fiction
The Dead Girl
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints
Memories (by Katsuhiro Otomo)
The Last Time
Saawariya
Everything Put Together
Barry Lyndon
Eyes Wide Shut
December Boys
The White Countess
Rise: Blood Hunter
The Amateurs
The Promise
King of California

FYI: Pretty sure all the Warner titles had slashed UPCs but the Sony titles were not

Inventory reduction... generate sales in a recessionary period... think the std DVD is on the way out in favor of Blu-Ray (in spite of numbers indicating a very small penetration/uptake)...

Or, most likely, dumping slow/non moving titles...

Collectors are still building libraries while average Joe is only purchasing the latest crapfest to come out of Hollywood. Considering that collectors are a minority of purchasers these titles are probably collecting dust in a warehouse somewhere. It's less expensive to dump them at cost or below than to continue to pay warehousing fees. Works for me just as long as they show up here.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I have a hunch, at least with some of the WB titles, that these may be boxed sets broken up. Witness the three James Dean 2-disc sets that were available in the previous wave. Ditto the Bogarts and Busby Berkley films. Anyway, I'm about to head out and check the Knollwood (St. Louis Park, MN.) store.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

A very small selection of the new titles at Knollwood...but I could find only "The Name of the Rose" on my list of wants. It was all late-model stuff....no WB classics from the 30s-50s.

There are not many movies I sell b/c I can't stand them -- this was one of them.

Anyway, there was no Revenge of Frankenstein, Eight-Legged Freaks, Ryan's Daughter 2D and no East of Eden but here are a few that (I don't think) have been mentioned. I wonder if the distribution of these is not as uniform as usual. There are alot here that have not been mentioned and alot that are missing. Of course I may have been a day or two late in getting to BL and that makes ALL the difference.

The Contract - John Cusack
Decoy - Second salvation
Living in Obliviion
Gospel / Gospel Live (double feature)
Gospel Live
Stuart Little Fun Around ...
Lost in the Wild
Living Free
The Breed
A Gude to Recognizing Your Saints
A Man For All Seasons
Grudge 2
Alien Encounter
Eating Raoul
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Final Season
Josie & Pussycats (Family Fun ed.)
Quidam
Mute Witness
Relative Strangers
Half Light
Dave Chapelle - Platinum Comedy Series
April Fool's Day Unrated
Devour
Katssuhiro presents Memories
Best Foot Forward
There Was A Crooked Man
Flying Down to Rio
Romeo & Juliet (J Barrymore)
Battleground (snapper)
Dillinger (Edmond Lowe)
The Champ (Jackie Cooper)
Quick change (Bill Murray)
Critic's Choice
World According To Garp
King's Row
Prince of the Tides (2D)
Viva Knieval
Naked in New York
Kaena the Prophecy
Desperadoes
Nina's Mal (Spanish)

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Went to my local Big Lots & they didn't have shit....
You CA people must get stuff two weeks earlier than mine....
Every time BL gets something great, it takes forever to show up here....

I found The Proposition today. I haven't seen that listed, but admittedly, I haven't read the entire thread.

They didn't have any down here either. They'll be here sooner or later.

If anyone missed Moonlighting S3, KMart now has Seasons 3 & 5 for $7.99.

Sometimes they do. I haven't seen much there lately though. They got tons in with that big MGM shipment that was around in the fall. They also had multiple copies of every James Bond film when those appeared. Never saw a Woody box set there tho.
As with all other BL, You have to keep checking in because a day or two late = You miss out.

That's a YMMV. No TVonDVD at *all* at the K-Mart here. Just lots of "clearance" titles priced $2-$10 higher than almost anywhere else.

Nothing new at BL. Checked today.

Took home:
Helen of Troy ('56)
Lilith ('64)

I wish I had viewed this thread before going to BL; I missed out on the only copy of The Name of the Rose .
