Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Hey Everybody, I have a question. Just a few minutes ago I finished updating the master list. But at the bottom it still says "last updated by jimmaxmed 1-04-09 at 8:48 pm" or something like that. Now I've updated it maybe half a dozen times since that date but it constantly reads the same. I'm curious if everyone else is seeing the same date I am ??? Plus I'm curious if the updates are showing up as well. They are showing up on my end, I just want to make sure the list is fine, and hopefully it's just the date of the last update that is incorrect.

I just remembered that I picked up an extra copy of Swimming With Sharks. Here's the link to the Big Lots Exchange Thread....I also added this link to the bottom of the Master List.

Jim - this is how it displays for me:

ETA: Looks like the edits are showing up, since the listing for American Splendor now includes the fact that it's an LE with the special comic book (something I just posted about recently).

And a big THANK YOU for all your hard work!!!

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

I checked the BL in Trexlertown and Allentown, PA and bought:

An Evening With Kevin Smith 2 (2-discs) (for trading)
How to eat fried worms
Hoot
THX 1138 2 disc Director's Cut
Cirque du Soleil - Quidam (they have 4 more copies, so if anyone is interested in trading, just let me know)

Also saw but passed on:

Gothika W/S 2 disc SE
Lila Says
Rebel Without a Cause
EDtv CE
Black Dragon (Jackie Chan)
Jersey girl
Power
Jawbreaker

I am still trying to find The devil's backbone and hellboy with no luck.

4 for $10 sign at my store (Kingman, Az.), but nothing new at all. I was (and still am) hoping to find Pans Labyrinth (2 disc), Gothika (2 disc), and Jawbreaker.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Stopped by another Biglots and they had the new $3 Warner Bros dvds. They were dumped on top of the existing $3 Sony dvds:

I saw the following:

Maltese Falcon
Grand Hotel
Public Enemy
Roaring Twenties
Reality Bites (10th Anniv. Edition)
How to Eat Fried Worms
Eternal
Jawbreaker

Special note to DVDTalkers who live in the greater Los Angeles/Orange County areas: I got the Biglots ad in my mailbox yesterday (Saturday). The 4 for $10 dvd deal is on the front page (on the lower right hand side).

At the bottom of the front page, it says " Merchandise available Saturday January 17 through Saturday January 24, 2009. While Quantities Last." Hopefully the Warner Bros dvds will show up by Saturday the 24th if they are not at your local store yet, so you can take advantage of the 4/$10 deal.

Please note that the sale period may be different for other parts of the USA.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

So did we ever confirm which version of Jawbreaker is showing up? A lot of people are reporting it, but I haven't noticed anyway saying if it's the flipper or the FS only.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Almost forgot to list some of the titles I found that WEREN'T on the Master List. I hit the Big Lots in Warwick, R.I. and Seekonk, Mass. yesterday. Warwick had a separate display with a mix of mostly old stuff and a few new ones. Seekonk had more new stuff but it was thrown into the regular wire rack............

Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus [2006](WS)(Newline)
Gridlock'd [1997](WS/FS)(Universal)
Heaven Help Us [1985)(WS)(HBO)
How to Lose Your Lover [2004](WS)(Newline)
I'll Be There [2003](WS)(Warner)
Monsoon Wedding [2001](WS)(Universal)
The Mummy Lives [1993](FS)(Warner)
Painted Hero [1995](FS)(Echo Bridge)
Quidam [1999](WS)(Columbia)
Sour Grapes [1998](FS)(Warner)
The Underneath [1995](WS)(Universal)
Undisputed II: Last Man Standing [2006](WS)(Newline)

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Bought:

Scenes of the Crime
Lost Souls
Darkman
Darkman 2

I might take both Darkmans back and get the 3 movie set somewhere else, where as Darkman 2 is non-anamorphic. Don't know about the 3rd one. But I do know that the 3 movie box set is anamorphic.

And so far, the only Jawbreakers I've seen is FS only. Alot of searching to do to find the WS/FS version.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

The Darkman Trilogy is great. You could have bought it at best buy for 9.99 about a year back.

Secondly, why do so many people buy complete crap from biglots? I never really quite understand. Just because a dvd is 3 dollars you don't have to buy it. You're just investing in a 3 dollar piece of garbage.

I think people just try to build up their collection is what it comes down too. They don't mind having a crap collection I guess. Now mine on the other hand... It's sharp.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

If I'm not mistaken, the Darkman Trilogy can be had for $7.50 at Wal Mart.
A solid buy.

Every copy I've seen of it has been FS.

Isn't the quality compromised to squeeze two of the films on one side of the disc? I don't care for the franchise collections, I only have two, and both look like crap.

I dont know about others, but alot of the movies I buy are 3-4 star quality movies... I might not have seen them before, but I love discovering the old classics... at $3 a pop, its cheaper than rental... Ive got a few sequels as well, knowing they are nothing like the originals, but figure Id get my $3 out of them...

Last nights dvd I watched was Art School Confidential... hadnt seen it, but as an artist and a fan of Terry Zwigoff's films, knew this was a purchase for me, loved the movie... and buying this at a BL that was closing, only paid .90 for it, but it was worth $3 at least

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

2 short movies can fit on one side of a dual-layer disc without overcompression. I have the regular Darkman disc and it's single-layer; don't have the 3-movie set but looks like they remixed the first movie into 5.1 so if I ever got that I'd still need the old disc for the original sound mix.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Picked up some with the $2.50 sale in Flint, MI.
A search of the thread didn't show these:

MIDDLE SEXES - HBO
TALK TO HER -Pedro Almodovar
WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM?-Shandling, Bening, Kinnear,Kinglsey, Florentino
CONFESSIONS OF AN AMERICAN GIRL - Jena Malone, Chris Mulkey
WILD ARUSTRALIA IMAX - marked $4, sold at $2.50

Also picked up
the Corner, Band Wagon, and Action uncut series which is probably too raw for me...

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3

Hit up yet another Big Lots (this one by the Sports Arena for my fellow San Diegans). Looks like they just set up the new display as they still had plenty of good stuff. Finally got a copy of the 2-disc Space Jam.

Also had about 5 or 6 copies of Evening with Kevin Smith 2, 2 copies of the 2-Disc Rebel without a Cause, a few classic WB gangster pics (Little Caesar, Public Enemy), and a lot of the usual finds.

Picked up about 20 titles this evening from the BL in my area including Rebel Without a Cause (2 disc)...

Id strongly recommend to anyone buying movies at BL to pick up Trespass... if I hadnt bought it years ago on dvd Id have snapped it up, very underrated movie
