Nothing new at my local Big Lots in the West Covina area. More of the same old stuff.

Yah, same 'ol, same 'ol for the one store I visited today. B-O-R-I-N-G. Man, that last big MGM wave was fun, though. Still haven't watched 95% of what I've bought but I want more! more! more!

No box sets yet here on the west coast. I'm starting to think they'll never come. I've been waiting for something like this after begrudgingly refusing to update my *complete* woody allen on vhs collection.

One of my local BLs looks to have put out more of their MGM titles. Look to be from the 1st wave mostly.

However, there were a few new titles in the mix - which I picked up a couple -

A River Runs Through It (DE)
In The Line of Fire (DE?)
Mickey Spilanes' Mike Hammer (More than Murder / Murder Me, Murder You)

Others I didn't pick up yet -
Tailor of Panama
YES
Off the Map
Leonard 6
Read my Lips
Wake of Death
Hard Corps
Red Dust

Or, maybe I just missed seeing/getting them the 1st time around?

Saw some other non-MGMs as well -
Ghost Stories v2
SFE Bats
SFE Darkness Falls
2 other SFEs (don't recall names)
Crash Landing
Fear
Night Shadow
Alone in the Neon Jungle
Blue River

I got to go through local store #2's new dvd's. Similar selection to what Jester reports: Sony about 1/2 restock, about 1/2 new titles. I don't have the memory that many others do, but the only thing new that really caught my eye was an Ingmar Bergman made for tv film, Saraband. No box sets.

My contact at store #3 is not there, the person I s/w said they were too backed up to even see if they even had any new dvd's for a couple days.....

Ingmar Bergman at Big Lots, who would've ever guessed.

Partial Sony restock here with one of the "flats" in single layer but no titles new to the area...

Also 3 copies of Species box that sold out overnight. Nothing else... No Woody Allen, no HBO restock. Maybe soon...

Or Michelangelo Antonioni, for that matter (The Passenger from a while back).

Saraband

It was shot for Swedish television, but it was also shown theatrically. I saw it in a theater in 2005. Its shot on HD video, but it looks very good and has the pacing and length of a feature. Its a sort-of-sequel to Scenes from a Marriage, in that it revisits the same characters roughly 30 years later.

I await it's arrival? Here? Who knows, the Allen sets haven't come this way yet either.

Mr. Reindeer. since it sounds like you've seen both films, would you suggest waiting to watch Saraband until after watching Scenes From A Marriage? I haven't seen either yet. Have Scenes on order soon from Netflix.

Found a copy of LA Story (Steve Martin) I don't see it on the master list. I was happy to get it and then I opened it and its letterboxed non-anamorphic.

Also got a copy of In the Line of Fire. its the older version but it is anamorphic. it has no extras.

also got the 2 disc Mothman Prophecies, the Sabata trilogy, the fox in a box, and the Hannibal set. I saw more of the River Runs Through It with the book so I guess they are going to start putting out more of the older stuff. I want to find Dark Crystal and Ali Directors Cut I missed those last time.

Well Saraband is something I'd definitely be interested in. I'll have to head down to Big Lots this weekend.

The $10 Bandai sets are finally showing up in Ohio. I saw them in Newark and Zanesville today. Its crazy how some of them are really good deals (Kaze No Yojimbo, Argentosoma complete collections) some of them have cool enough extras to be worth the price for a single volume (Scrapped Princess the figure with Vol is huge once its assembled, Galaxy Angel with 5 figures) Angel Tales I gave into temptation and picked up to have the box but the little plushies with it are tiny and now worth having. I'm not sure what they're thinking charging $10 for the 2 disk Yukikaze vol1. I've picked up the disk versions of the other vols for $3 in the past

Bergman

moomoomoomoo, I actually have yet to see Scenes from a Marriage, I just know about that factoid. I'd say go ahead and watch Scenes first, it'll undoubtedly enhance your connection to these characters, and its near the head of your cue anyway. Scenes has a good reputation and had I had more time I would have tracked down a copy of Scenes first. I was worried Saraband was only going to play for a week! I saw a matinee, with only a handful of people in attendance as it turned out, but it did play a bit longer than a week. It was digitally projected as well, which was sweet.

Saraband stands fine on it own if you don't know anything about the back story, SfaM. Plus, Saraband's got nekid geriatrics! To bring it back to the BL topic at hand. Find it if you can, apparently on the eastcoast/midwest!

Saw multiple copies of the Species box set at one of the three local stores. So far, Acapulco Heat and Species are the only box sets that have shown up and they were at separate times from only one of the stores. Kind of odd but I think they've been having trouble filtering through some of this stuff lately and they aren't putting out everything that they're getting in. But that's just a guess.

My hopes of finding the Woody Allen boxsets are slowly fading...

I've been to four Utah stores in the past week, and none have had them. The American Fork store, after over a month without anything new, did finally get the Sony restock. I picked up:

Kung Fu Hustle
Look At Me
The Memory of a Killer
A River Runs Through It (Deluxe Edition)
Saraband

I also saw "The Woodsman", "Hollow Man" (Deluxe Superbit), "As Good As It Gets", "In the Line of Fire", and many others. I would love to find "Yes".

Like DeepSleep a few posts above, I just saw the new Sony ?only? restock in the IE. A store I visited 10 days ago, which had old stuff for the last month or so, suddenly had the new stock in a new display. The display had $3 all over it, so it seems to be made especially for BL? Now I need to check the other stores in my area, all of which had old stuff the last times I was at each one.

I picked up:
L'enfant one more left
Ali single disc, not directors cut - only one I found, not on MASTER LIST

I skipped:
Closer Nichols - only one there, I don't recall this on the master list?
The Woods many copies
The Lords of Dogtown theatrical cut - only one there
Kung Fu Hustle FS - no wide's that I saw
a few superbits, that special edition of Where a River Runs..., still no Allen sets, or any other non-anime sets.

Though DeepSleep has me re-excited for sets on the west coast. That store was already picked a bit, but it would appear there's more dvd's under the display. I just couldn't see under the two rows of dvds. Only two vertical rows are visible on this display, its like a big cube.

Ahem, that's A River Runs Through It, not where a river runs. That store had two that I saw. I can never remember the title of that movie.

The store that I went to was at 13005 Sherman Way, North Hollywood, CA 91605. I was visiting some friends and saw the Biglots sign and had to check it out. It was the first time for me at this store. It is right next door to a Kmart and there is plenty of parking in the lot.

They had the existing freestanding cardboard display on a wooden pallet that I have seen at many other stores. It was about 1/3 full and very picked over. This display also had some HBO and a couple of Universal dvds like "Far from Heaven". Not much left though.

They also had 2 new looking freestanding 4 sided cardboard displays, each sitting on a wooden pallet. Each display had 2 layers. The sides of the display had "$3 DVDs" printed right on the cardboard. Both freestanding displays were full and looked untouched.

The cashier told me that they just put them out this morning. I asked if they have to assemble the display and then put the dvds in. She said no. The display comes fully assembled on the wooden pallet. She said they just cut off the plastic wrap from the sides and top of the display and just wheel it out onto the main aisle.

Each display only had one Woody Allen boxset. They were marked $13. I was not interested in the boxset, but I did notice that one of the titles in the collection was Shadows with Fog or something like that. They also had Little Women CE dvd with a small size book.

Up in front of the cashiers they had some odd dvds like the 2 dvds packaged side by side and some other titles that got left behind from previous shipments.

Finally found a Dark Crystal special edition. Also got the Ali directors cut, Lawrence of Arabia, Little Women, Species box set, Meltdown (jet li), and Leon international cut. There was only 1 copy of each of these titles except Meltdown, so the supplies may be limited.

Also I saw some of these Sci Fi essentials DVDs they have Bats, and they had Starman but unfortunately the Starman was full screen so I didn't get it.

Just got the Woody Allen sets at the Westland, MI store (corner of Ford & Wayne Roads). They still have four more of each set sitting on the rack for anyone in the area.
