Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I know that the best in-store method is one $5 off $20 coupon per title, ideally no more than 2 per visit (since there are technically two different $5 off $20 coupons). But, has anyone tried using the in-store Member 15% off one item in conjunction with the $5 off coupons to save a trip and instead be able to purchase a more expensive set with the percentage off coupon, followed by two $40 titles using the $5 off $20 ones? The 15% in store coupon is the only one that has fine print saying it cannot be combined with any other coupons. But, the idea would be to use it only on ONE title, and use the other coupons on separate titles in the same order.
In other words, something like:
15% off a $70 (MSRP) title like Yojimbo/Sanjuro blu
+
$5 off a $40 (MSRP) blu title
+
$5 off a $40 (MSRP) blu title
The 15% off the $70 set is within about $0.50 of the savings from the $5 off coupon used on the same set. Furthermore, combining 3 $40 (MSRP) blu-rays + the $70 (MSRP) set should come out to well over $50 after applied discounts, allowing one of the $5 off $50 coupons to work. Thus in theory, 2 trips could be combined into one by purchasing a more expensive set with 3 of the normal blu-ray titles.
Thoughts?

WTF is going on with the online coupons. I even used a different name, different address and created a new account and it still wouldn't accept them. We may be acting sly, but all they're doing is screwing themselves out of orders, because now I'll definitely order less if anything else at all. I do have to figure out a way to get a comparable price on The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus, but anything else I was considering is probably out the window.

This all happened within the last two hours or so...I had something in my basket and it showed the 20% off pricing, but when I refreshed I got the message saying I can not use it.

Laser,
I remember some talk about returning in store and only getting store credit, not a charge back to your cc. If this is the case, can that store credit be used on the website?
This is regarding my question earlier about exchanging a dvd bought online for the blu-ray in store. I'm just thinking that if they don't let me do an even exchange and I only get store credit, I can always just order it again online with that credit. It will be an even exchange, but will just take an extra few days to get to me.

It appears B&N killed the coupon usage for the Criterion sale. All the Criterions I see now have a note saying it does not qualify for coupons.

i'm not sure if that is the policy with all stores though. If you did get store credit you could not apply that to another online order. You would have to use it at the store. However you might be able to purchase a gift card to use online.

Today I was able to use the Library Link AND a 10% off coupon. The order went through but then 10 minutes later they changed it, removed the coupon and shipped the order out without it. I'm stuck with the order since it's already shipped, but that's fine since it's still only $15.75 per disc (yojimbo and sanjuro combo blu-rays).

I can verify that this method officially worked for me this morning. Though, it took a lot of patience and friendly movie geek banter between me and the clerk, and a willing (though not overtly friendly) manager to come by and manually override the two $5 off $20 and one $5 off $50 coupons----none of which would work when scanned or manually entered without an override code from the manager. Only the 15% off the most expensive title worked upon scanning. Luckily, this was the only multiple title order like this that I'll have to make during the sale. For few other titles I want, I'll just go with one or two $5 off $20 coupons at a time and hope to stay lucky with patient and friendly clerks.

You would have a great case to dispute the charge if you have a confirmation email with a different price. I've had that happen a few times over the years with different online stores. I always take it up with my credit card whenever a store does this. Never lost and always got a refund when I challenged it with my credit card company.

you have a rabbit's foot up your ass, Jfunk1 - i tried the same thing this morning, and with a really cool, cooperative cashier, but to no avail... she wasn't a manager and couldn't override it.

i did three separate orders, purchasing the box sets of Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy, Pedro Costa's Letters from Fontainhas(sp?), and Agnes Varda using the 20% off new member coupon late last night - all items have shipped, and i've only been charged the correct amount. maybe i got lucky?

I'm waiting on The Leopard to come in, so put a few others on hold until then. I'm eyeing 2 at 24.99 and 2 at 19.99. I plan to use 2x $5 off DVD, $5 off $50, 15% off and membership discount. I figure I'll come out around $58 + tax if my math is right. And all coupons should scan properly.
Plus I stated a good conversation with the clerk, so hopefully i'll be able to get 5 off other 19.99 titles in separate transactions. They had Ran and Contempt blu-rays marked 50% off, I had him test scan them and they were not 50% off, obviously since they are studio canal.

I can understand if they disabled the 20% off new member accounts but for those who have memberships and were getting coupons, now we are unable to use our other coupons???

I'm going to wait until I get the order before I complain, just in case they cancel it because I used the Library Link. Afterward I'm going to try to email customer service for the difference.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
But I can also use my Discover card online to get a 10% cashback, or Bing to get 8% cashback. And from what I read most if not all of those coupon codes for an extra 10% off your highest-priced item do NOT work with AAA, but they do work with Discover and Bing.
At least I think they do because the coupon code instructions say the codes do not work with any other offer.
So - Question #1 - if I use one of those 10% off - highest price item codes do I risk losing out on my Discover or Bing cashback? It takes several weeks to get that cashback from either Discover or Bing and I'm worried that my use of a coupon code on one item will wipe out my 10% cashback on an entire order.
So - Question #2 - other than setting up a bunch of new accounts - which I am loathe to do - or buying a B&N membership, which makes no sense to me as I already can get 10% through AAA - are there any other good options? I don't mind going the in-store route but I don't think there is any advantage to it this time around.
Comments from the B&N coupon gurus?
Thanks.

$39.99 - 20.00 - 2.00 + 0.76 (Missouri tax) - 0.94 = $17.81
(Not as good as the potential with Discover or Bing, but it states that there will be a $0.94 rebate right on the confirmation page, before I place the order. I don't have to worry that it doesn't qualify.)

Nice. I'll find out for sure in a couple days. It already shipped, so it should be here by Friday. The only problem with going to the store is I know I'll end up buying more when it's right in front of me...staring at me.

Really sucks that coupons aren't working. This pretty much forces me to buy them at the store. Being that even the 10% barely covers the shipping.

Free shipping over $25. Since the coupons aren't working there's no reason to place separate orders. As long as you're buying 2 films you'll get 10% off each and free shipping.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Alright, so I just have to face facts, I still want The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus. Maybe Red Desert, Mystery Train, Monsoon Wedding and a few others. I really didn't want to deal with the absolute hassle of in store purchases, but now there may be no choice. So please tell me about the in store methods of saving. Obviously, YMMV and I'd have to buy a membership which apparently I could return within 30 days if I decided to. There is a $5 off $20 coupon, but do I automatically get an additional 10% off as a member and what else are you guys stacking on single regular blu rays? Thanks.
