You can do this. I currently have one and I used to have one back in December 2010. Use a different email and you should be fine.

I think they just closed the loophole that allows you to use a coupon more than once online. You can no longer enter the coupon before signing into your account.

If you opt out I don't believe they can legally send you any marketing offers.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
If the $8 coupon was intended to be allowed on a title under a $40 selling price then the online code would work on the Eclipse sets etc when they fall below $40. But they don't. The actual selling price has to be $40 or above for the code to work. That tells you exactly what B&N intended for this coupon. I have no problem trying it in store but there's no point in arguing or getting a manager involved because common sense alone should tell you B&N wouldn't want you to get $8 off a $23 item and being too pushy just makes you an ass. If you ask the cashier and they give it to you consider yourself lucky. If they don't, forget it, and try again at another store or with another cashier.
However, I did try the 8$ coupon on the kurahara set tonight to much success at a store that denied their use in july (this store is closing in dec, so I think the employees are going to be less enforcement oriented). I'll definitely try and get it to pass on Fanny & Alexander and Leningrad cowboys. And if I keep having success with the 8/40 coupon I may blow past my budget and get three colors and carlos as well.

Here are the terms for the online code:
$8 off one (1) DVD or Blu-ray with a minimum B&N Selling Price of $40. The B&N Selling Price is the price at Checkout before taxes and shipping and handling charges are applied. The $8 off discount will apply to the most expensive eligible DVD or Blu-ray in your Shopping Cart and will be deducted after all other discounts are applied.
And now the store coupon:
The $8 off will be one DVD of the Member’s Choice, with a B&N minimum selling price of $40-and will be deducted after all other discounts, including the standard Member discount, are applied. The B&N selling price is the price at the cash register before taxes and discounts, including the standard Member discount are applied.
These are the same coupons and thus the terms are the same. You can interpret them however you want but it still doesn't make you right. There's no point in discussing this further so I'm done and will get back to bargains. You'll interpret it the way you want and the rest of us will actually interpret it correctly.

It looks like you can't enter coupons until you sign in/checkout now.... I guess coupons will be 1 time use online from now on....

The 5%, 7%, and 10% online coupon codes on the first page toward the bottom of the coupon list should still be able to be used multiple times.

The only differences in the terms are to account for the member discount in stores that you don't get online, the fact that you can choose one item in-store but not online, and for possible shipping charges that could occur online.

Did you miss the "before taxes and discounts...are applied" text in the B&N selling price definition for the in store coupon? It flat out states to use the price before discounts are applied, i.e. the full price. So I will interpret it correctly and continue to get the discount B&N offers to me.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
One thing I've often wondered about in regard to the printable store coupons: what would prevent someone from bringing one into Photoshop and changing the verbiage to their benefit? For instance, with the $8.00 off one DVD or Blu-Ray, would it be possible to change the sell price to $30.00 or more instead of $40.00? Or are there preventitive measures put in place by the barcode that would detect what the sell price should be?
I wonder this because it seems that B&N's coupons seem to have loopholes that they are slow to catch on to. The multiple usage of one coupon online took months for them to discover and fix.
***By the way, I seriously would not do this myself. I really am just curious how they prevent tampering.

The same result did not occur when trying it on $39.99 titles. One time required a manual overide, and the other time prompted a call to a dour Manager.

I got denied trying to use the 8 dollar off coupon on Carlos despite it being originally 49.99 and the manager wouldn't budge. He stated that the price had to be after discounts and all that jive. I knew he was wrong but if their mind is made up you are not going to change it.

Curious what his response was when you pointed to the 'before discount' part of the fine print? The poster above who said they sometimes call it a temporary price drop makes a good point. It's still complete BS on B&N part (temporary price drop is a discount), but I'm curious what excuse the manager at your store used.

The only time I've been able to get an employee to bend on the price thing while trying to buy in store would be if the membership discount takes the sale price below the coupon's qualifying price.

It says the price "at the register" before discounts. So they easily have at least two ways to legitimately deny coupon use on most titles. One, it comes up as a promo price, not a discount. Two, it shows the promo price as $39.99, not the required $40.
Does it work much of the time? Sure. But my philosophy is that half off plus membership 10% is more than good enough, and the coupons are just bonus. So don't be a hard-ass and fight for technicalities on the coupon terms everyone. You're only going to get them to fix their POS system and ruin coupons for all of us eventually. Take what they'll give you without a fight, but don't rock the boat.

Any chance that someone might list the 50% off Book code from facebook? I'd love to be able to get that discount if at all possible.

Just printed my Facebook coupon. You have to LIKE B&N, but here is the link, for those who haven't found it already:
http://www.facebook.com/barnesandnob...01143516562748
Coupon expires at 3am on 11/7, so you don't have long to use it. It is good off of the LIST price of one book. Not the greatest coupon, but I'll use it...
