Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Thanks so much for posting the Mastercard offer. I went for the Criterion BBS set. I was debating ordering it with the 15% code, but $58+ seemed a bit high considering I'd only seen The Last Picture Show and some of the other films are relatively obscure. At about $49, I can probably sell it and break even if it's not to my liking.
I just wish this coupon was out before I ordered Doctor Who S5 yesterday morning.

Good deal on a bundle of the original 3 seasons of Star Trek (blu-ray) - $160 - subtract the coupon and it comes to $121. I think Best Buy had the individual seasons for $40 each a few months ago.

Does anyone own the Wild Wild West complete series? I'm tempted to get it but have a feeling I might regret it because of a few flaws with the set. A lot of the reviews I've read complained about the packaging, discs, or episodes that won't play because of scratching. Looks like a great price for the series at $37.49 with the 25% coupon. Unfortunately doesn't appear I could trade it for another set at a store either if I needed to since none around here have it in stock.

I jumped on the Star Trek bundle myself, but didn't get quite as good a deal since I don't have a mastercard. I used the 15% coupon instead. So it came to around $136.

The Ultimate Collection is ok for that price but it does have a few demo versions instead of the versions of songs we know. I actually prefer The Essential 3.0 Michael Jackson. I own it (since I found a mint copy for under $7) along with Off The Wall, Thriller 25th Anniversary, Bad, Dangerous, History: Past Present and Future Book I, Blood on the Dance Floor: History in the Mix, Invincible, & Michael plus a few Jacksons/Jackson 5 CDs. I think I'm covered.

There are so many great deals to be had. I do wish I didn't already have Deadwood so I could justify the BD. Oh well. I did get HBO's In Treatment Season 2 for 22.49 plus tax after Mastercard coupon. And I had no trouble using a $25 gift card. I guess they allow it as long as the MC was my default payment method.

I own the set and while the packaging isn't great, I didn't experience any issues with the discs being scratched or episodes not playing in the copy I got. If you haven't seen the inside of the box, the 27 discs are split into seasons 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 in two cardboard "saddle bags" that the DVDs slide into and those "saddle bags" are held in place with tiny cardboard inserts. Between the thin outside box and the inside packaging there's plenty of room for problems (think of the Roots box). It all comes down to how it is packed for shipping (eg. if they toss it in a box without much padding, chances are you'll have problems). Still, it's too good a deal to pass up on at this price since it's the only place to get the two movies.

Got "Get Smart - The Complete Series" for $47 plus tax (which was mostly offset by the FatWallet cashback). Used the $10 promo gift card from buying $100 worth of gift cards (which I immediately used on Criterions ...) so I had that going for me.
This should be fun to watch, even more so while thinking "DHS" every time I hear "CONTROL" ...

Grabbed the Alien Anthology for $52.49 - might go one more time under another account before it expires...
Would have gotten America Lost and Found: The BBS Story but I've got a $50 GC from Criterion which makes it about $49.99 in the Criterion online store.

The next best idea is to tell the gift giver that cold hard cash works better than a gift card, but if they still want to give a gift card, give it for a merchant that offers better sales than Criterion does. Just saying.

Thanks for the information. Maybe I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Most reviews were positive but I became concerned when I saw a pattern with the negative reviews about the packaging and some damaged discs. I should be able to save a few more dollars with cash back and a cash rebate with my B&N card. I'll just have to hope for the best and return it if it does not work out.

That's a remarkable price for the Wild Wild West set. Even if you were able to find all the seasons at your Big Lots, it would still be more expensive than the set from B&N.
I just recently got interested in checking the series out and picked up a season 3 set from BL- GREAT SHOW!
If I had the time right now to deal with any problems that might come up with ordering the set, I doubt I would hesitate to snag it.
I ended up ordering the Spider-man set for $24 (with tax). $12 each for the first two was what I was planning on paying, so it works out ok. They'll probably be under $10 regularly within six months, but whatever. Also re-upped my membership. I miss the freedom of no minimum free shipping as well as the (sometimes intermittent) express shipping. If they keep kicking out coupons throughout the year, I won't begrudge the extra $25.

Is Barnesandnoble.com and Barnes and Noble store have the same price on BluRay? If not do they price match their website? Anyone? Thanks!

You could always see if they'll order it for you and apply the coupon in store. YMMV, but I've done this about 4-5 times (twice earlier this week) without an issue.

the last time I was in the store, the one clerk told me there would be absolutely no problem applying an in-store coupon to a store placed, ship to home order.
But that was just that particular clerk. I think it is still very much a YMMV situation.

I've done it too but don't expect to do this and get your 10% discount. Any in store order is treated as if you ordered from the website so no discount applies. The only advantage to ordering in store vs. the website directly is if you have already used all the codes on the website.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
Over the years I've had a few orders get to me with some damage from B&N. Mostly DVD boxes and cases that were dinged up. Fortunately I was able to easily exchange most of the DVDs at a local store for a copy in mint condition. Unfortunately when I checked online inventory for the Wild Wild West it was not available at any stores in my area. I went ahead and ordered one anyway but I am a little worried about possible DVD damage with this set. I plan on promptly opening and inspecting each DVD when it arrives.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
There are a few other advantages to ordering at stores with coupons. I've been able to pre-order and order things that do not qualify for coupons on the web site. Technically it's not supposed to be allowed with the terms of the fine print but I've had great success with stores allowing it anyway. Doing a ship to home order during the Criterion sale was the best way to get around the online coupon restrictions. On several occasions I could not find a Criterion title I wanted at a store and instead did a store order with a coupon.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I don't think you thought that idea through. A gift card is basically cash restricted to particular merchant(s). So, rather than get it for around 50 bucks at B&N, you're going to get it for around 50 bucks at Criterion AND piss away the $50 GC in the process? How does spending 100 bucks for something on-sale for 50 bucks make any sense? Why not just wait for a Criterion Shop 30 percent off sale and use the gift card on dvds that don't have to be further supplemented with your cash?
The next best idea is to tell the gift giver that cold hard cash works better than a gift card, but if they still want to give a gift card, give it for a merchant that offers better sales than Criterion does. Just saying.

Thanks for thinking of me though, lol

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
About the only thing I have noticed lately that says does not qualify for coupons is the Beatles stereo box set. There could be other stuff since they have a large selection on the web site and I can't look at everything on it. If there is another Criterion sale I expect they will impose the restrictions again online since they have with the last two sales.
