^Thanks, Punit. I may have to bite on a few of these.

Unless someone is flooding a forum with a bunch of silly or pointless threads, I don't really see a problem with having more than five threads started by a single poster on any given forum.
I don't generally look at who the thread starter is on any given thread, so it's not necessarily something I'm even going to notice. It's theoretically possible for speedy to have six or more threads on the first page of this forum (BB, CC, and Target for "this week" and "next week.") As long as the information is useful, there shouldn't be a problem. Which, for the record, isn't a complaint, because speedy is an asset to this forum, and I like his threads just the way they are. I find huge threads like this one to be much more cumbersome than just clicking on the next page link at the bottom of the page if there are still new posts to be seen. Other forums I occasionally read will do this, where they have one eighty page thread for "Lost," and those things are a pain in the ass to deal with. With sales, that appear and expire with regularity, consolidated threads like this tend to be one big mess. With sales threads like these, I would have to check this thread every time it's updated to see if there's a new sale. With seperate threads, I can just skip over the sales I've already read and am no longer interested in. I would assume that my reading habits are typical of many other members on this board. If this is a problem, might I suggest that the better DD sales get their own threads, while a consolidated thread could be used for the minor sales (that have either only a handful of titles, or deals that aren't all that great). The best solution would be to make an exception for this forum (re: the number of started threads any single poster can have) for the sake of being concise and easy to use. |
I would say the "free magazine list" thread is only a "similar" situation as there appear to be *lots* more "free" magazines than concurrent sales at DD.
While I prefer the separate threads due to sale content I'll go along with whatever we wind up with because I value the information punit provides. I do stand by my earlier comment that lists of sale items from mnementh will be much more difficult to locate if this stays a merged thread. |
mnementh, list (price and alphabetically wise) for Anchor Bay's B1G1 please quickly before something gets OOS.
I don't know why this DD is putting all these sales all at once especially 1 month before their semi-annual feast. |

... Now, thrown all together, it's almost impossible to keep track of individual purchase ideas for each sale, and certainly it's going to discourage that kind post. I consider titles I would have overlooked. And that's the real reason we have discussion threads after all. Otherewise there would just be a post of the sale and that would be the end of discussion. As far as a rule about the number of front-page posts from an individual, it should be clear that was to prevent a single person from taking over a board. What this individual is doing is helping everyone. No one, as far as I can tell, was upset about it. Except maybe an enforcer without enough to keep himself occupied. I would strongly urge DVD Talk to find a better way to handle this. Return to individual threads for individual sales. The idea is to help the users of this board. |

The mods will be discussing this. It's very hard for us to make an exception in one forum because people here demand extreme consistency and we get all sorts of problems when rules aren't applied the same to everyone, even to the owners of the site. And if consistency is today's magic word, why weren't WatchAMovie's Amazon deals consolidated in one thread? Before you come to any decisions, I hope the mods read this merged thread from page 1 and see how easily they can distinguish which posts pertain to the Kino sale and which pertain to the Fox/MGM B2G1 sale. Isn't that the entire point of a deals subforum? Each deal gets its own thread and people discuss the dozens of titles unique to each deal. Otherwise, you could take this merging to an extreme and have a single thread with every deal regardless of the store or the original poster. |
Why is the Herzog (sans Kinski) set never included in these B1G1 Anchor Bay sales? As far as the merging of threads goes, I'm sure the mods will recognize the inherent ridiculousness of one consolidated thread. The clutter and confusion of this thread should speak for itself.

I'm completely lost in this thread but thanks punit for posting the deals and mnementh for the helpful lists.
Definitely not liking the idea of one massive thread with all the sales thrown in as a free for all though. Makes it unwieldly to try and focus on an interested sale and its discussion. Wish Cemetery Man was part of the Anchor Bay sale but saves me an order (rather wait for a BD release for that anyway). |
The thing that makes the Bargains forum a great resource is you just have to scroll through the main page to see if there are any interesting deals. If you have to go into a different thread for each retailer and look to see if the master list has been updated, it really defeats the point.

Remember last autumn when Barnes & Noble had that awesome 50% off coupon, coupled with the 10% off members discount, stacked with prices that were already 30%-40% off? Yeah, me neither, because that incredible offer never got it's own thread until after B&N had already reduced those 30%-40% savings down to 10%.
Quite frankly, I don't have the time to search through a 50 page thread in hopes of finding a bargain. This is a bargain forum. Why on earth would the people who run this place want to make it so damn difficult to find bargains? Makes no sense to me. |
I may be preaching to the choir, but I check the main page almost every day to see the latest sales and this consolidation is a real chore to sift through. punit and mnementh do a great service for us bargain hunters in posting these deals and price lists. Saves me time in searching and I probably shop more because it's easy to spot the products I'm after.
This merged thread is a mess and it's hard to ask questions about specific items in different sales when all the discussions are jumbled together. Just my 2 cents, but I wish it was left as it was. |
Yeah, this format is ridiculous.
Who cares who starts the deal threads? I just want to know what's on sale with a minimum amount of hassle. |
I HATE not having threads on the different sales.
|
I wonder if the threads can even be unmerged. Should we create new threads for the Kino, B2G1 and Anchor Bay sales?
|
Chalk up another vote for separate threads. I just spent 15 minutes wading through this monstrosity. Are separate threads that bad, I ask??

I can not believe that you do not understand the problems you will run into if all these sales are kept in the same thread.Do i want to read a page of the Kino sale to get to a sale i am interested in.Use your head man, this is not about just having a thread about all DD deals. Each thread must offer a discusion of the movies that are of intrest to people that are intrested in that particular deal. If we follow your logic we could just have a amazon,DD,target, best buy,cc, ect. thread for all deals for that particular site whether you have any intrest in them or not.I can not believe that people do not understand the problem with this. This should have never happened, some guy complained about 6 threads that could have been 0ne(and he was wrong) and a mod in his haste decided that this was right. A mod should be able to step back after a rash decision and decide, yes i screwed up on that one, forget what i said really this is a no brainer, keep the different sales in different threads, this is not rocket science guys |
