Which is also the current Amazon price.

Oddly enough, in Huntsville it was Sam's Club that had these instead of Costco.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Very disappointed that Costco has cutback on their DVD selections this holiday season. Both the DVD and CD selections have been poor this year. I always look forward to their box set bargains but this year the pickings have been slim.

My experience over the last 2-3 years is that the holiday DVD / Blu-ray / Book department doesnt get stocked well until mid-late Novemeber just before Black Friday. I am expecting the same this year.

I wouldn't start worrying yet - At least at our Costco it wasn't until right around Thanksgiving when the DVD displays started expanding for the holiday season.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

That's interesting. At my Costco, the section is now back to the same Holiday position it always was but it's smaller. Now the CD sales and that tacky music display you can't stop (only turn down the volume) is now slotted where DVD sales used to be. The Blu-Ray section is still quite small where the large length of the Wizard of Oz Boxset accounts for at least 1/3 of the Blu-Ray section. Classics have taken a big hit and classic boxsets more than anything else. That leaves the standard end of aisle display and a bunch of TV boxsets. In the past, additional stock was kept directly under the shelves for restocking. Now, it's completely bare. Obviously, Costco is pairing down it's inventory (and investment) in dvd sales.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

As far as classic films are concerned the majority of Costco's bargain box sets were from Warner and Fox. Both have cut back on classic releases this year.
Even if Costco started getting more of these they would be stuff they previously had as there is very little new stuff. Still Costco had great deals on Columbia box sets earlier this year and I hope they will get the new film noir set before Christmas. At the Costco's I frequent the holiday DVD section was usually set up by September, when the Christmas cards and all were set up.
I don't recall it every being this late. Not a DVD but I am surprised they are not selling the complete Beatles box set but they are selling the individual CDs.
Gift sets from previous years seem to be missing this year.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

When I when there last week, they had an Audrey Hepburn DVD set in a gimmicky hat box.

They also had some sets from Universal: Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Gary Cooper and James Stewart.

Do you remember the price on the Hepburn set? Sounds like the perfect Christmas present for the wife

This set (I think it had 6, maybe 7 movies in it) along with a Paul Newman box set (with considerably more movies) were just under $50. I think there may've been a few other Fox sets att hat price, but I don't remember them.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

In addition to the Paul Newman and Audrey Hepburn sets, I saw large 17 or 18
film sets for Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chan, and Shirley Temple. I am sure these are not new transfers just the existing discs in new packages. All are priced at $49.99 each. Monroe set includes all her Fox films from All About Eve forward and also includes Some Like It Hot.

That's cool. Last week my local indy record shop was selling the Stereo set for $265, and the Mono for $275.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Today I saw some of the Hanna-Barbera sets for $18.99:

Huckleberry Hound S1
Top Cat
Jetsons S1
Magilla Gorilla
Jonny Quest S1

If you missed any of these at Big Lots (and don't want to deal with 3rd party sellers) this is a good deal.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Costco in Rohnert Park, CA had a special display labeled "Black Friday Season 1 Deals" all at $12.99:

Six Feet Under S1
Pushing Daisies S1
Chuck S1
Sex in the City S1
...and a couple others I forgot.

It actually disappointed me because I thought it was a Six Feet Under display and I need all seasons EXCEPT 1.

Hadn't seen this before - a 12 DVD set of the Sherlock Holmes series starring Jeremy Brett. $100. The cheapest I've seen it elsewhere is $140 or so.

The wife bought it, as it's one of her favorites.

Was the Six Feet Under in the old (giant) packaging? Or the new, 100-calorie pack?

It was what you call the 100-calorie pack. The new packaging has been out about a year so not really new.

Saw some Christmas blu-rays today for $18.99 each:

Jingle All The Way
Mirace on 34th Street

I think there were a couple more, but those are the only two I remember.

Correct. It was the 2nd one. The "book" and not "box" version.

That's the lowest price yet, then. I bet we'll be seeing it for $80-90 sometime before end of year, at which point I will POUNCE.
